It has a nice Lyre shaped Pendulum & Westminster Chimes with a Glass Window at the center of the door. The Dial is nicely Gilded with Porcelain Roman Numerals & 3 separate Keyholes to wind the clock. It has Beautiful Lion Paw Feet with Faux Tortoise Inlays in an Ebonized Lacquer Finish Case. The Clock has its original Franz Hermle Movement with Hammer Rods & Chime Rods. Large Chelsea Base & Ball ship's bell clock with Special Grand 10" dial @ 1920s
Large dial Chelsea Base and Ball solid bronze ship's bell mantel clock @ early 1920s. This is an extremely rare clock that came out of an estate recently, where it was maintained and in regular use - this clock is in excellent original as found condition. The case has been polished and lacquered at some point in the past, and looks great, although it could have it's original antique bronze finish restored if desired. The case has an amazing look, a real work of art, and very impressive at 15 1/2" tall x 15 1/2" wide x 5" deep, and weighing in at 31 pounds. No damage or missing pieces to the case. The fancy Special Grand 10" diameter dial is excellent with its original finish and signature, being signed for the retailer J.E. Caldwell, Philadelphia. Great original fancy hands. The 8 day movement is marked Chelsea and serial number 137362, which matches the serial number stamped into the wooden base of the case, and dates between 1920 to 1924. It is complete and intact with good mainsprings, running strongly and accurately with it's original lever escapement, and striking ship's bells on the hours and half hours on its original gong, but is sold without any warranty. Isaac Reed Philadelphia Tall Case Grandfather Clock 1820 Cherry Case 8 day
Isaac Reed was at work in Philadelphia (Frankford District) on the NW corner of 2nd and Vine St. from 1819 - 1822. In 1823 he moved to 176 N. 2nd St and remained there until 1846. He was a Silversmith, Watchmaker and Clockmaker. This example is from the late Federal Period and exhibits the classic rectalinear lines indigenous to the Delaware Valley. The primary wood is Cherry with long leaf yellow Pine secondaries. The eight day brass striking movement is coupled to an American Painted Iron Dial probably from the Patton & Jones shop in Philadelphia. We acquired the piece from an Estate in

Rare Art Nouveau Domed Architectural Bronze Clock by Edward Caldwell
A VERY FINE ART NOUVEAU DOMED ARCHITECTURAL TABLE CLOCKEdward F. Caldwell & Co., New York, circa early 20th century | an unsigned documented exampleItem # 307PQH13X An incredibly intricate Art Nouveau table clock from the renowned firm of Edward F. Caldwell, it is a brilliant architectural work that insinuates a domed cathedral of the Renaissance. This particular clock design is catalogued in the archival records of the Smithsonian Library and Archives (Large Portfolio 84, p. 5, # A025762). It features a cast bronze finial of opposing harpies rising from cornucopia that the Caldwell firm used in several of their designs (for example, as the central motif raising a pair of candelabra branches in # A25571, Smithsonian archives, see enclosed image) situated over a domed top with applied pierced bronze elements that are intricately chiseled and bright-engraved to create a complex endlessly swirling collection of fretwork surrounding ecclesiastical imagery of classical figures, putti and angels. The fretwork in the canted corners of the dome hint at the influence of orientalism in the design process while heroes battling fantastical creatures ride horses at each corner.Raising each of the four corners of the structure are two male and two female bacchanalia figures brilliantly executed in gilded bronze, the front two flanking the circular face of the clock, this dial with raised Roman numerals over a hammered ground, the same motif of swirling foliage flowing centrally and in the spandrels of the face. The clock is raised on a base of fish-scale cove moldings over four pomegranite bun feet.The clever entwining of motifs by the designer to create a new object that embodies the essence of Art Nouveau is evident throughout the form. The classical inspirations in the heavenly imagery of the dome juxtapose brilliantly the Naturalism in the lower body of the clock. It remains an incredibly elaborate and cherished example. Measurements: 21" H x 8" D x 11 1/4" W Condition Report:Surfaces throughout are heavily worn and tarnished. The bronze elements were finished by the Caldwell firm with a pigment based patina that has largely oxidized or worn away and much of it would have originally been more of a brown hue instead of the golden hue present where patina has been relieved. eBay Tiffany & Co. Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze and more desirable Green Marble Clock Garniture circular white enamel dial with black Arabic numerals, flanked by allegoral figures emblematic of Philosophy and Study, with eagle finial, and a pair of covered urns with swan-form handles. This clock is modeled after a late 18th century design by Francois Remond in which the two figures were to be executed in porcelain by the Sevres Manufactory. Clock protective glass is cracked, piece is covered in years worth of old soot, dirt, smoke. It will clean up to a much nicer piece it is just time consuming to clean properly, marble base has small chips around edges and one larger chip below lady above medallion. Urns a few small chips on marble one larger on corner see last 3 photos. Clock is 26 3/4" x 20 1/4", urns are 18" tall. The statue is made of bronze with beautiful patina from its age, signed by Louis Moreau. The complete clock stands 29" tall and the base is 11-1/2" in diameter. The movement is 8 day with half hour and hour striking. It's in good working order and complete with pendulum and winding key. Because of its size and weight, the statue and the marble base with clock will be shipped separately for their safety. The statue can be easily re-attached by 2 screw nuts. Late 18th century Louis XVI Ormolu Clock, by Lamy GougeDate and Origin:French, circa 1790's Dimensions:H 14.75 in. x W 11.5 in. x D 5 in. late 18th to early 19th century French gilt bronze mantel clock, featuring the Roman goddess, Diana. Base features frieze of cherubs. Wonderful guilloche detailing on feet and decorative parts of base. Enamel dial with Roman numerals. Dial is signed "Lamy Gouge a Paris". Lamy Gouge was the "Horloger du Roi" between 1804 and 1820. The case is likely cast by Jean-Andre Reiche or Claude Galle, who were known to work with Lamy Gouge by the early 1800s Condition:Good condition overall. Presents very well. Loose quiver may not be original. I believe it to be an Empire period replacement from a different clock.The mechanism is sold "as-is". The clock was able to run, but fast. The pendulum needs to be replaced and a key will need to located.No noted condition issues to the dial. Gilt finish is rubbed at parts.

Antique Edo Period Japanese Inro Watch / Clock & Sundial / Compass 1700s RARE
This listing is for an antique extremely rare Edo-period. Japanese gilt-brass mounted shitan wood watch (INRO-DOKEI). It is an exquisite piece, with a carved wooden case, and a beautifully carved metal movement; along with an extraordinary compass / sundial that has a case made of mokume-gane. It is likely from the late Edo Period, from what my research can find. I am unsure the exact year of its manufacture, but it appears to be potentially mid to late 1700s to early 1800s. A Japanese version of a portable compact watch in a casing resembling a pillbox, along with its compass. I have not been able to narrow down a maker yet, but it appears that the golden bead attached to the compass has both a potential signature and an exquisite lotus flower. These pieces were made before any sort of standardized time that we are used to, so the compass & sundial were integral for helping to keep your clock keep time while out & about. Japanese Inro clock-watches & their compass/ sundials of this caliber do not come often, especially not on ebay. Usually these are tied up in big-name auctions, with high buyer-premiums & extra fees; so grab this one now while you can!It appears to be in working condition, however I have not fully wound it up, due to my lack of experience with clocks of this kind. It appears to wind and run just fine though, there do not seem to be any broken mechanics, and the chain is complete and seemingly mint. I have not applied any oil or taken it apart in any way (other than sliding it out of the wooden case) so as not to cause damage. It is as-found, but in excellent condition. The curved rectangular case with its glass has an amazingly detailed hand carved design. The front has some filigree & leaved, the back displays two monks, or a monk & a god, playing some version of checkers under a blossoming tree. As you can see, the case has cracked in two during some point in its life. It seems that it could be delicately glued & restored to one whole unit, but I have not done so, as I do not know the correct glue to use. It may also be missing a metal bezel for the glass, but the glass is not loose. Restoration is up to buyers preferences. I am not sure if there were originally any top or bottom wooden panels held in place by the cord that are now lost. Comes with all the casing pieces shown. The metal front plate is engraved with leafy branches, the number panels, which can be slid depending on the time of year appear to be hand carved. The single chain fusee movement with verge escapement and plain balance with pierced and engraved bridgecock, with backplate with balance regulation scale and engraved with floral branches. It has a cord terminating with the engraved copper Damascus drum-shaped netsuke, opening to reveal a silver compass and sundial. It has its original gilt lacquer or potentially even gold, bead; an ojime. If you look in the carved copper body of the compass you can see the Mokume-gane (???) which it is made of. It is a Japanese metalworking procedure which produces a mixed-metal laminate with distinctive layered patterns; the term is also used to refer to the resulting laminate itself. The term mokume-gane translates closely to "wood grain metal" or "wood eye metal" and describes the way metal takes on the appearance of natural wood grain.[1] Mokume-gane fuses several layers of differently coloured precious metals together to form a sandwich of alloys called a "billet." To the best I can tell, that is what this compass case is made of, though besides copper I am unsure the metals used. The loop to hold the thread & its embossed attachment piece, as well as the compass & sundial faces may be silver, but I am not sure. I have not tested any of the metal content at all, to not damage it. The dial has adjustable silvered engraved characters which represent the time as indicated by the hand. I believe the characters are two sequences of nine to four with the zodiac symbols used for the nine to represent noon and midnight. At the end of the Edo Period, pendulums and balance springs started to be used in speed regulators. Because it was difficult to adjust the time variations of both the four seasons and day and night mechanically, a hand-rotated dial of numbers that changed the time interval was conceived. The small rotating dial is engraved with text for 12 periods of time (the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac or numbered hours from 9 to 4). Japanese traditional clocks mainly in the Edo period that conformed to the temporal hour system developed uniquely in Japan, drawing attention from researchers in the world, and being highlighted in foreign books and studied. These clocks are highly sought after, many are on display in museums or locked away in private collections, but few are ever for sale.This clock comes from a massive estate collection, and was extremely well cared for in a temperature controlled room. In addition to print technology, organs, and astronomical instruments, these schools taught production techniques for clocks. Japanese blacksmiths manufactured clocks under the guidance of these schools, resulting in the first mechanical clock production in Japan.According to the "Owari-shi" (a periodical from the Owari territory) compiled in 1832, Sukezaemon Tsuda from Nagoya City repaired a clock belonging to Ieyasu Tokugawa, and then used it as a model to create a new clock, which he offered to Ieyasu. For his service, Sukezaemon Tsuda was employed by Ieyasu in 1598. However, the shogunate government soon banned Christianity and adopted a policy of seclusion, which blocked the flow of new technology from Europe. Thus, it was possible to come in contact with cultural items from places such as China and Holland through Nagasaki only, and this also affected Japanese traditional clock production Clock makers gradually increased around the country, with many working as personal clock makers for the shogunate family and feudal lords for whom they were making gorgeous articles. Japanese traditional clock production sites included first and foremost Nagasaki, as well as Matsue, Kyoto, Osaka, Sakai, Ise, Nagoya, Wakasa, Edo, Sendai, Morioka, and Hirosaki.In Europe, mechanical clocks appeared as timekeeping switched from a variable to fixed method, but Japan at that time used a unique temporal hour system. As a result, clock production basically remained a copy of early European methods. Rather than work to increase the precision of clocks, Japanese clock makers focused on creativity and originality to conform to the country's unique temporal hour system. CAREFUL INSPECTION OF THE BELLS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: · ONE HAIRLINE CRACK CAN CAUSE A SONORA BELL TO LOSE ALL TONE AND TIMBRE, AND THE BEGINNING OF A HAIRLINE WILL ALMOST ALWAYS GROW TO A FULL HAIRLINE CRACK. · IN ADDITION, OTHER ISSUES WITH CRACKED, BROKEN, OR DETERIORATED WOODEN AND PRESSED FELT BELL SPACERS, USED TO SEPARATE THE BELLS, WILL IMPACT THE SOUND, YET CANNOT BE DETECTED BY CASUAL INSPECTION. · EACH BELL WAS COMPARED WITH A STANDARD FOR PROPER PITCH AND TIMBRE. · THE ONLY WAY TO ASSURE YOURSELF OF NOT BECOMING VICTIM TO PROBLEMS IS VIA FULL AUTHENTICATION OF THE COMPONENTS, WHICH IS MY PLEDGE TO YOU, THE BUYER. MOVEMENTS - #89X AND #104E BOTH THE 89X TIME AND HOUR STRIKE MOVEMENT, AND THE 104E SONORA CHIME MOVEMENTS WERE DISASSEMBLED, CLEANED WITH ULTRASONICS, INSPECTED IN DETAIL FOR CONDITION OF THE PIVOT BUSHINGS, GEAR TRAIN, AND ARBOR OR PIVOT ABNORMALITIES. OUT OF TOLERANCE BUSHINGS WERE REPLACED. EVERY OPERATIONAL ASPECT OF EACH MOVEMENT WAS ADDRESSED. THE MOVEMENTS WERE THEN REASSEMBLED AND PROPERLY LUBRICATED; A VIEW OF THE COMPONENTS CAN BE SEEN IN PHOTO 10. THE GREAT MAINSPRING IN THE 104E WAS REMOVED FROM ITS RETAINING BARREL, FULLY UNWOUND, PROPERLY CLEANED, INSPECTED, REWOUND, AND LUBRICATED WITH MAINSPRING INDUSTRUAL GRADE LUBRICANT. REPLACEMENT OF THE 136 INCH #104 MAINSPRING IS NEITHER RECOMMENDED NOR REQUIRED, AS LONG AS THE EXISTING MAINSPRING EXCEEDS SPECIFICATIONS, AS THIS ONE DOES. A NEW MANUFACTURE REPLACEMENT MAINSPRING TO FIT THE #104 HAS DIFFERENT STRENGTH AND TORQUE CHARACTERISTICS FROM THE ORIGINAL, AND MAY CREATE EXCESSIVE FORCES WITHIN THE MOVEMENT. IMPORTANT: THERE ARE SEVERAL CRITICAL ITEMS OF THE #104E CHIME MOVEMENT. PAY SPECIAL NOTICE TO THESE THREE CRITICAL COMPONENTS: THE GREAT WHEEL GEAR, THE SECOND WHEEL GEAR WITH PINION, AND THE CHIME DRUM THAT SYNCHRONIZES AND DRIVES THE CHIME HAMMERS. IF ANY OF THESE COMPONENTS IS ABOUT TO FAIL, IT MAY NOT BE OBVIOUS.
