BEAUTIFUL SETH THOMAS ANTIQUE WESTMINSTER MANTEL CLOCK 113 CHIME NO. 73 CA. 1921
CHIME CLOCK No. 73 – 1921 For offer from my personal collection is this beautiful Seth Thomas Chime Clock No. 73 produced in the year of 1921 and is a chime clock that is truly hard to find. A feature that is not found often is the silver dial along with the different grille work on the sides unlike the model made in 1936. The 6 inch dial ring set on the silver face is in very good condition with a fancy etched pattern on mid top and bottom of the dial. The case of this Chime Clock No. 73 is made of solid and ribbon mahogany. The case has been cleaned with mild clock cleaner and hand waxed to bring out the mahogany patina. The case has no character marks that I can see and all the edges and corners are clean that should show in the pictures. I love the lines on this old beauty. It has an old English design of two carved pillars and a broken arched top. The moldings around the base area are amazing and the grille work on the sides is fancy and detailed. Even the material in the side grilles is original and intact to let out the beautiful Westminster chimes. This is very large, heavy clock that has many great features. It comes with its original pendulum and leader along with a proper sized one-sided key that will make a great conversation piece between your family, friends and guests. Everything about this clock is big and original. The only thing not original are the bronze bushings in the movement that I installed because of worn pivot holes and the one sided winding key. The original wavy glass is incased by a mahogany arched frame door and has some character marks in it that can hardly be seen. I really had to take several photos to show it. The elegant design of the fancy silvered dial is the focal point of the old English design case. You can literally see yourself in the polished silvered background. This model is equipped with a chime lock to prevent the chimes from rattling during transportation of this clock. The hammer tips are like new to bring out the timbre and decay when the clock chimes. The back door opens and closes properly as it should. Sitting on my 30’s theme bar, while keeping accurate time week after week and listening to the beautiful Mayland chime rods sound out the Westminster chime slowly on the quarter-hours really makes this clock a hard one for me to let go. The original 6-inch silvered dial ring of the Chime No. 73 has very little wear on it which some people would consider as mint. The large Arabic numbers are in great shape and can be read from a distance. The signature Seth Thomas black fancy shaped spade hour and minute hands compliment the dial face giving it a classy look. The wood cased door opens and closes properly as it should. The key is one sided because the adjustments for the time and the silent chime is done manually and easily from the front of the clock. All aspects of this clock are fully functional. The eight day Seth Thomas No. 113A Westminster movement is a whopping 5 ½ pounds with its original hold down thumb screws which is not common to see on a clock this old. The movement has been completely taken apart, ultrasonically cleaned, all the pivots polished, all the worn pivot holes bushed, springs cleaned and the whole movement was properly lubricated. The three-train movement has a self-adjusting lever that will automatically correct the chimes at the top of the hour (Activating the chime accidentally and putting back is a great example). Another clock I am selling that is fully functional, wound every Sunday and not just bench tested but tested with the clock put together and working in my house over the past several months to assure that the clock will operate perfectly for the new owner and generations to follow. Each quarter-hour beautifully chimes on the four Mayland chime rods. The first quarter-hour plays four notes. Eight notes on the half hour. 12 notes on the three-quarter hour, followed by 16 notes of the full Westminster chime sequence at the top of each hour followed by the fifth rod struck to mark the hour. The Mayland chimes are by far the most resonant and pleasing to the ear chime that I have ever heard. The regular Seth Thomas Westminster rods are nice, but these chimes are truly beautiful and the best sounding of any chime clock. What I do to ensure you are buying a quality clock. Ø Disassemble the entire clock and movement myself completely.Ø Install Seth Thomas parts on the movement as needed.Ø Bush all worn pivot holes with Burgeon bronze bushings as needed.Ø Clean the entire movement ultrasonically Ø Clean the original dial being careful not to alter its original condition.Ø Clean bezel, parts and chime rods by hand.Ø Clean the outside of the original finish by hand with mild cleaners as well as the inside and apply a coat of wax by hand.Ø I will never alter the finish or farm out the clock not knowing what is being done to the clock. This does decrease the value of a clock.Ø Reassemble the clock, oil/lube in the proper places.Ø Adjust chime and strike hammer sequence properly to assure smooth and even strikes at each quarter-hour and hour.Ø Electronically regulate the beat and adjust the speed while the clock is level to ensure accuracy for many generations.Ø Inspect and adjust every minor detail of the clock assuring full function and peak performance for many years to come.Ø Test the clock for a minimum of two weeks to ensure peak and proper performance for the new owner.Ø Smoke free, pet free home. BEAUTIFUL AND SCARCE ANTIQUE SETH THOMAS CLOCK "TAMBOUR" MODEL Ca. 1905 RESTORED
SETH THOMAS TAMBOUR – 1905 Making a scare appearance and from my private collection I am proud to offer is this Seth Thomas “TAMBOUR” model that is in superb condition inside and out, looks great while keeping excellent time. This clock case is made from solid mahogany and shows very few character marks which can all be seen in the pictures. The case is accented with a hand carved leaf design at each end of the clock and brass feet that have been cleaned and not restored to new. The molded edge to the front and sides of the base give this clock a solid foundation. Please use the zoom feature and enlarge the pictures to see all the details of this clock. This clock offers a large 5-inch silvered dial that is in very good to excellent condition with little wear that is hardly noticeable but worth mentioning. The Seth Thomas name and raised bronze numerals and the flawless chapter ring add character and elegance to this clock. It even has the original grommets around the winding holes and the original signature Seth Thomas bronze serpentine shape hour and minute hands that give this clock a classy look. This clock also features a machined clasp heavy sash that has been cleaned without removing the original finish that opens and closes properly as it should. The original convex beveled glass has no chips or scratches in it. The brass back circular door has a floral design to let the chimes cathedral gong decay through the cloth back that is in great shape but shows a few tears in the pictures. This clock even has its original cylinder shaped pendulum and original two sided key. A date or production stamp is on the back of the dial that shows 1881. Every aspect of this clock is fully functional. This model is equipped with a rebuilt fine round movement with polished brass front and back plates that was completed in March of 2023. Pictures of the movement disassembled are not shown because at the time I planned on keeping this clock since this model is seen far and few between. The movement was inspected and recently serviced for years of trouble free enjoyment. This clock strikes the hour and half-hour on a resonant brass cathedral bell gong that is pleasing to the ear. The following procedures are done to each and every clock that I sell and none of the pictures are reused from a previous clock sale. SETH THOMAS PARLOR CALENDAR CLOCK NO. 9 HOUR BELL STRIKE
eBay SETH THOMAS PARLOR CALENDAR CLOCK No. 9 Purchased from a local clock chapter member, I have for offer this Seth Thomas Parlor Calendar No. 9 and it is a fully functional calendar clock to purchase and own. This model Calendar clock is hard to find, is great looking, and not common for sale in the public market. This Parlor Calendar No. 9 has beautiful carvings throughout the walnut case and door. The finish on the wood cabinet is in great condition. The glass retainers in the door were caulked when I purchased this clock and I replaced it with wood (walnut) glass retainers. The wood back was split when I received this clock and does not affect the performance. Fear of doing more damage to try to repair I left it alone. The painted dials are in excellent condition. Both movements are in excellent running condition keeping excellent time and striking properly. The black spade hands are original. The roll paper calendar day and month of the lower dial appear to be original and is working properly on a 31 day month. However, on a 28, 29 or 30 day month, the day hand will have to be manually moved to the first of the month. For example, on June 1st the calendar will read May 31st. Just move the day hand to the 1st of the month manually and the month will roll to June. The good news is you only have to move the day hand only 5 times a year. I ran this clock for several months to make sure the time and calendar has been properly working for the new owner to enjoy. This clock offers two huge 8 7/8” painted dials that have grommets around the winding holes which can be seen through the 8” glass windows. The fancy carving wood door opens and closes perfectly and locks properly as it should. The bottom glass is in excellent condition and has no chips or scratches in it but the upper glass has 2 small scratches in the center area of the glass that I could not get to show in the pictures. A proper size one sided key comes with the clock. Every aspect of this clock is fully functional. This model is equipped with a completely rebuilt movement by me showing in pictures of it disassembled, with working Geneva stops to prevent from winding springs excessively. This clock strikes on the top of the hours only on a cupped silver cathedral bell that is pleasing to the ear. All the flirts were adjust correctly so that the strike side works properly and activates at the top of the hour as it should. The following procedures are done to each and every clock that I sell. JUNGHANS WESTMINSTER CHIME BRACKET CLOCK WITH FULLY RESTORED MOVEMENT For your consideration is an impressive German made Junghans Westminster chime bracket clock. The case style is Architectural Edwardian era with egg and dart moldings and Corinthian columns. The movement is marked A07 which means that it was made in the first half of 1907. Case measures 19 inches tall by 12.75 inches wide by 8.5 inches deep. The dial is in nice condition and when you open the door, you will find that there are also two sub-dials that allow you to silence the chimes but not the strike from the front of the clock and regulate the speed of the clock. Glass is beveled and in good condition. The clock plays the Westminster Chime of 4 notes at quarter after, 8 notes at half past, 12 notes at quarter till, and then the full sixteen notes at the top of the your and then strikes out the hours on the longest of the five chime rods that sounds like a church bell. A video is attached that allows you to hear the beautiful tone of this clock. The movement has been completely restored using the proper horological repair methods. Please look carefully at the attached pictures as they provide a large amount of the description of this fine timepiece. WHAT MAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE? The rules of economics are fairly straightforward Simply put, it is almost impossible to spend a little and get a lot. Antique and vintage clocks follow these rules as well. You can buy “As Found” clocks for less money. Then you have to pay a shop to go through the movement and when you are done, you have spent more than if you would have bid on the nicer clocks in the beginning. I have tried through the photos to show the basic steps that I do in restoring these wonderful machines to their original state. My goal is to provide you with a quality time piece that will provide enjoyment and be a source of pride in your home for years to come. Equally important to me is to provide you with a clock that I believe will retain its value over the years. That is what I think constitutes real value in antique and vintage clocks. MY PHILOSOPHY ON CLOCKS AND CLOCK MOVEMENTS. The only way to properly repair a movement is to completely disassemble, clean and inspect all parts, and make the needed repairs by proper horological methods. This includes the rebushing of all worn holes and the polishing of any rough pivots. The movements are then reassembled, lubricated with a high-quality clock oil and test run for 8 days. This is a very time intensive process but is the only correct way to properly recondition a clock movement. You should expect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten years trouble-free. I have been doing clock repair for over 40 years. I apprenticed under an Oregon State licensed repairman and have been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) since 1981. I do not make a living doing this; it has become a passion of mine. I go to estate sales, auctions, and search places like eBay and Craigslist to find clocks that are in need of restoration. Once they are made like new mechanically, I put them up for sale in the hopes of paying for my materials and upgrading my personal collection. The mahogany wood case is in great condition as the pictures will show with a slight crazing in the finish showing that it has not been altered and pictures are never photo shopped. This clock has a strong, smooth running rebuilt 124 movement that has been keeping excellent time for the past few weeks. This clock comes with a nice raised bronze Arabic numbers on a gorgeous silvered dial which can be read from a distance and is considered an upgrade. Bronze serpentine shaped hour and minute hands. A broken arch molding along the front top half of the clock that has extended molding at the sides of the 3 and 9. No scratches on the original convex beveled glass and the machined clasp brass bezel and the back door opens and closes properly as they should. Mayland chime rods with chime lock are on this model and this movement features a silent chime option for the quarter- hours only. The original pendulum bob and the original two-sided key come with the clock. The original model label is also on the bottom of the clock which is frequently removed or comes off. eBay SETH THOMAS CITY SERIES WALES – 1904 Today I am proud to offer is this beautiful Seth Thomas Wales produced in the year of 1904. A steal when you see other listings asking for hundreds more doing nothing to the clock besides listing it. This clock has a pleasant chime on its Cathedral bell metal gong counting the hours and half-hour. Just a beautiful tone that is pleasing to the ear. The design of this clock is esthetically pleasing to the eye. The step down top transitioning to quarter round molding along the front and sides with dental accents and router front edges then transitions to the curved to square base allows this model clock to go with any of your room’s décor. The Mahogany case has little to no man made character marks in it and a well done repair was made in the top left corner which can be seen in the pictures. The finish is original and has been cleaned but not altered. The grains in the top has a great marble look to it. The original 5 inch white porcelain dial is in excellent condition with a hardly noticeable chip at the winding hole by the 7. The black Arabic numbers and the signature Seth Thomas spade shaped hour and minute hands give this clock a classy look and the numbers can be read from a distance. The thick beveled glass has a scratch in it and can hardly be seen in the close up picture. The machined clasp polished brass French sash has been cleaned to preserve the original antique brass finish. Both the front and the back doors open and close properly as they should. The finish is original and in excellent condition bringing out the mahogany wood grains and bird’s eye maple inlaid below the dial. The man made character marks are minimal which the pictures will show. This clock has a strong, smooth running serviced 8 day pendulum movement that has been keeping excellent consistent time for the past few weeks. This clock has many nice features like black Arabic numbers on the original silvered scalloped dial that can be read from a distance. Fancy Seth Thomas signature diamond shaped hour and minute hands. A nice bird’s eye maple inlaid below the dial. A chip on the edge of the front glass can be hardly seen that is covered by the bezel and has no scratches on the original convex glass. Antique Seth Thomas Sonora Chime 5 Bell Mantle Clock Cathedral Fresh
This clock comes from a family that has owned it forever. Please read on as I am not a clock person and this description will be long not knowing all the correct terms of clock parts. The owner of this clock, in his mid seventies, says that this has not only been kept in the same family (his) but has also remained in the same house (where he still lives) throughout its life. He said he once saw an old photo of his grandmother when she was in her 20's standing near this clock on the same mantle where its been kept all these years until recently. The owner never saw this clock running, he didn't have a key. I purchased one and wound it up. I got it running buy starting the pendulum, when it stopped I pushed it again and so on.I don’t know enough about it to do anything mechanical to it and would hate to break something. I didn't try adding any oil or anything else. Having it sit on a level surface I've gotten this clock running for a couple of days and it would stop. Sometimes it will run for only 10 or 15 minutes or so. I can always get running by moving the pendulum. So the movement will need some kind of attention. Speed can be adjusted slower or increased on its face using the key. This is a 5 bell chime movement. When the clock is running it will "click" every 15 minutes and on the hour but won't start the chimes or hour chime on its own. But when I lift one lever I can get the hourly chime to work nicely advancing each hour when activated. I can also lift another lever(?) and get the remaining 4 chimes to work. The leather on 2 of the hammers may need to be changed or adjusted because the sound sounds not tuned, the other bells ring nicely, but they all do work. This clock is in it's original unrestored condition and may need some attention. I know this is long but please read on. The wooden mahogany case is actually in very nice original condition. The glass bezel(?) hinged door opens and closes but it's tight. I believe that's why appears to have some fingernail scratches from trying to open it. The original glass doesn't have any scratches on it. The back door to the movement opens and closes nicely. It has the original cloth behind the round brass plate. There are three types of clock balance movement styles post 1950. This section is for those balance units that do not have a platform escapement. The platform escapement can be read about in another section. These notes are only for the larger balance wheel in the top center of the clock movement. For example, movements in the Urgos 6/ series and many of the Hermle clock movements. Hermle movements such as 340-020 and 350-020 . Out of these, two styles, the old style and then the new style. Use of the old style was all through the 70's and 80's and 90's. Around this time there was a switch to the new style on the Hermle units. By this time the Urgos units were out of production. The old style The old style is one with a round spring that goes up and down (Vertical). It goes in a circle around the center arbor of the balance wheel. In this style there is a slide arm with a tiny weight on the balance wheel itself. There is a + and - on the wheel. To speed up time go towards the plus sign. However this style is not always easy to regulate and can be very hard to get it perfect. The factory has special devices to make it perfect. With age, the mechanical clock movement's oil solidifies and becomes black and sticky. By the time 20 or 30 years go by, the oil has solidified and is creating wear on the brass plates of the movement. So, when this happens, the clock movement will not run correctly. This is when the movement will need a cleaning at least, or be d . Of course, a brand new movement is always the best option. What wear and where Look at the old clock movement, and see holes in the brass plates where there are small pivot arbors sticking into these holes. These pivots are what the gears of the clock ride upon and as the pivots spin in the solidified oil, this makes the holes oblong instead of round. With the pivot holes oblong, the holes are pinching the pivots and creating resistance in the gear train. With the solidified oil and the pinched pivots, the clock will eventually stop working or chiming. Invisible clock movement wear This wear takes place in the holes that are in the brass plates and is hard to identify sometimes. These holes in the brass plates become oblong instead of round and this pinches the pivot arbor going into it. Between this, and the solid oil, the clock ceases to function. Then, after 20 or 30 years, a full break down of the movement is necessary. This is all well and good and can be done with the old movement. The movement will run for another 5 or 15 years with no issues but then it will be time to do it again. So obviously this is a new clock movement benefit. Every time the movement needs to have work done on it or needs bushings, it will last less and less time before it needs attention again. So another new clock movement benefit is that this would not happen. The repair process is expensive because it takes time to separate the plates, remove all the gears, do the necessary work, and then put them all back together again. In other words there are a couple styles some units have that are not as good as others. There are various movements that have more than one grade. Some units can have plastic for the hour hand tube and the next wheel down, instead the better brass. Meanwhile the number is the same for both grades. This can be done by removing access panels, sticking a phone inside and taking a picture, or even a mirror. Use any possible means to get the number of the Hermle clock movement. This information is not in the manual that came with the clock or on the wood case. On the back plate of the Hermle clock movement there are numbers such as 451-050 94 cm . These numbers indicate everything there is to know about that particular mechanical Hermle clock movement. Identification is the first step In order to purchase a new Hermle clock movement, the old number has to match up with the new one. In short, the new movement will be exactly the same. It is not a knock off. Generally speaking, all of the existing clock components will fit the new movement. Proper identification of the Hermle clock movement is important when troubleshooting, ordering parts, or discussing compatible components. Thus, when contacting us it is imperative to correctly reference the number on the backplate of the movement. With age, the mechanical clock movement's oil solidifies and becomes black and sticky. By the time 20 or 30 years go by, the oil has solidified and is creating wear on the brass plates of the movement. So, when this happens, the clock movement will not run correctly. This is when the movement will need a cleaning at least, or be d . Of course, a brand new movement is always the best option. What wear and where Look at the old clock movement, and see holes in the brass plates where there are small pivot arbors sticking into these holes. These pivots are what the gears of the clock ride upon and as the pivots spin in the solidified oil, this makes the holes oblong instead of round. With the pivot holes oblong, the holes are pinching the pivots and creating resistance in the gear train. With the solidified oil and the pinched pivots, the clock will eventually stop working or chiming. Invisible clock movement wear This wear takes place in the holes that are in the brass plates and is hard to identify sometimes. These holes in the brass plates become oblong instead of round and this pinches the pivot arbor going into it. Between this, and the solid oil, the clock ceases to function. To have this repaired is an expensive and long process. To have a mechanical movement serviced can cost two times as much or even three times the amount of the new one. This section will explain why that is and what the best course of action is to get your clock working. Servicing the movement Clocks need to have fresh oil after 10 years or so. Then, after 20 or 30 years, a full break down of the movement is necessary. This is all well and good and can be done with the old movement. The movement will run for another 5 or 15 years with no issues but then it will be time to do it again. So obviously this is a new clock movement benefit. Every time the movement needs to have work done on it or needs bushings, it will last less and less time before it needs attention again. So another new clock movement benefit is that this would not happen. The repair process is expensive because it takes time to separate the plates, remove all the gears, do the necessary work, and then put them all back together again. This process may need to be redone if not perfect the first time. The turn around time to complete an overhaul on a clock movement could be anywhere from 1 to 3 months, and in some extreme cases, a year. It is a slow moving venture that costs twice as much as a new movement would. If a new clock movement is not available, then this is the best, and only, way to handle a clock repair . Replacing with a new clock movement If the clock movement is still in production, it is far better to just get the new clock movement. Mass production makes the movement so affordable it will cost a fraction of the price of the repair work. The new clock movement will be the same one but brand new and ready to run 30 years without much complaint. There is absolutely no way to repair an old clock movement so that it is better than new. Even the best clockmaker using the best equipment cannot make the clock movement better than a new one. A new clock movement is a factory fresh restart. The clock will be like it was originally when you first made the purchase from the store. The new clock movement will be made by the same people, with the same machines, and the clock movement is the same. It is not a close replica or made somewhere else besides Germany. It is the same movement. Not a knock off or replica. So wouldn't it make sense to get the new clock movement instead of chasing the old? The choice is clear and obvious. The new movement will cost a fraction of the price and the clock is up and running in no time. Movements That Would Need a Repair or an Overhaul If a new clock movement is not possible, then a repair is most likely the only option. However we will try to convert it to a new clock movement that is close and easy to adapt. If it is not an easy one to adapt, or would take too much case work, then the best solution is to have us work on it. Another clock movement to consider having restored instead of replacing it is the tubular bell, which is a high end movement. The price of a tubular bell new clock movement makes an overhaul more attractive. This is due to the high price on the new clock movements which is over $1600. Usually the price is less for the new unit but instead these new clock movements are more costly than the overhaul by Clockworks anyway. We can charge a much lower amount for the complete overhaul on these units. Ultimately the choice is yours. There is a good argument in both directions that makes sense on these expensive new clock movements. We only repair clock movements the hard way with no short cuts. Even with new clock movements, we inspect them and make sure all is well before shipping them out. The clock movement itself is the only item that gets sent to us. No components need to be sent since we have everything else here such as weights, dials and pendulums. The new movement New clock movement benefits usually do indeed outweigh the repair option. The movement will already have lubrication with clock oil so there is no need to oil it. The new clock movement comes with cables and pulleys, or chains, the leader, and suspension spring . This is everything that comes out when you remove the two screws that are under the clock movement, besides the dial and weights . Once you get the hands and the clock dial out of the way (instructions are sent via email) it's only a matter of removing the two screws from underneath. The new clock movement can then be put in by someone with experience in 10 or 15 minutes. A person with no experience will take longer, but the point is that it isn't hard to do. There are some instances where a clock case was made in an annoying way that makes it more difficult, but for clock movements that were in a mass production this is not the situation. This relates more to a few individual clockmakers who's design of the case makes it more tricky to get the new clock movement in or out. The movement could have a stamp with any name but really it will be made by Hermle. Some companies bought so many movements that they were able to get their name on the movement instead of Hermle. The following is only a partial list of names that could be on the clock movement. The best Aliases in Disguise Seth Thomas and Mason and Sullivan had not only their name, but also their own internal numbering system. Their stamp and number was on the movement instead of the Hermle number. Since it is not a Hermle number, the number would need to have a conversion to the real number. Correspondingly, this is done with the Mason and Sullivan chart , or the Seth Thomas conversion Chart . However the Seth Thomas chart is not very accurate, please see instructions on that page. Best to the movement It is best to the clock movement if either of these names are on the movement automatically. Of course, do not have to think and decide if a repair is better, the answer is a simple no. These companies went out of business a long ago and the life of the unit is over. Ordinarily, the lifetime is 25 - 30 years before it needs an overhaul or ment. In fact, if ST or Mason Sullivan is on the movement that would indicate the clock is about 40 years old or more. SETH THOMAS LAFAYETTE – 1928 Today I have for offer is this not often seen Seth Thomas LAFAYETTE model that was produced in the year of around 1928. The style of this clock along with its timbre and decay of the bell metal gong counting the hours and half-hour will warm the room with its beauty and sound. This model has a short base making it perfect to fit anywhere in your house or apartment with a concave molded edge around the dial and step down accents at the 3 and 9 going from front to back. Inlaid accents below the dial and raised molding at each end give this clock a grand appearance for its compact size. The finish is 100% original and the Mahogany case has a few character marks on it as the pictures will show. This clock has a 5 inch silvered dial with raised bronze Arabic numbers that can be read from a distance complimented by signature Seth Thomas fancy bronze serpentine hour and minute hands. This clock features a rebuilt 8-day movement No. 125 that requires no pendulum and strikes once on the half-hour and actual strikes of the hour on a bell metal gong. SETH THOMAS CYMBAL 2 – 1928 For offer and is this beautiful Seth Thomas Cymbal 2 produced in the year of 1928. This clock is all original from the finish on the Mahogany case down to each tiny screw and has very few character marks as the pictures will show. All the best features are on this model. Raised moldings at each end add style and balance. A two-toned panel design below the dial. A beautiful 5 inch silvered dial with clear dark Arabic numbers that can be read from a distance along with Seth Thomas signature spade hour and minute hands. This clock features a quarter-hour strike movement No. 89K that has been completely rebuilt by me, keeping excellent time throughout the weeks, and strikes each quarter-hour on two rods of different tone. The leather tips in the hammer ends are in great shape allowing a timbre and decay that is pleasing to ear. Two hammer strikes on the quarter-hour, four hammer strikes on the half hour, six hammer strikes on the three-quarter hour and one hammer striking the rod to count out the hour. Antique Seth Thomas Senora Chime Mantel Clock with Key, Series #90 4 Bells
Please read entire description about condition.This vintage Seth Thomas Senora Chime clock is in a dark adamantine case with an arched top and brass feet. It has a brass fast-and-slow speed adjustment on the side.It has a convex glass cover in a brass rim over the dial face. The dial face is black with white Roman numerals. It feels like hard plastic. It is a replacement face. I also have the original metal face and hands (last photo).The face has three holes or winding arbours indicating three gear trains. It comes with a new key.The clock is a 4 bell, quarter hour, 8-day chime. It is series # 90. It was made sometime around 1910.This Seth Thomas mantel clock is in great antique condition. It is working but not properly. It chimes but the center arbour, the time train, turns loosely--the key doesn't seem to grab. It ticks, chimes and sounds lovely, but it needs to be repaired by someone more knowledgeable than me. Could be a simple fix. There are no warranties past my policy rules (30 days--please read them) as this is an antique clock.Cosmetically, there is a tiny bit of shrinkage (7th photo) in one corner which is common with adamantine. There are tiny speckles on the top that showed up on my camera but are hard to see with the naked eye. There is a tiny nick on one side. Please use your zoom for a good look.It would look lovely in a Victorian, Colonial, or nautical home.
