HistoryVery little made it thru the WWII attacks on Konigsberg, Germany. First the shelling from the Royal Air Force inn August of 1944 and then by Soviet shelling in April of 1945. This one of a kind, Master Bardon clock, with a Konigsberg Seewarte seal somehow survived. Whether it was sheltered in the underground German bunkers or in the partial remains of the Konigsberg Observatory it did survive. The Observatory, a semi-circular two story research and observation facility with a brick vault (considered a regional architectural monument) is related to the clock via the Seewarte engraving on the clock seal."Seewarte" loosely translates as Naval Observatory or Oceanic Observatory or it could also be referring to the Atlantic Meteor voyage which mapped the ocean floor with the first sonic equipment and included the Konigsberg area in 1925-1927. The seal on this clock is also engraved Conigsberg, as it was first spelled for a period following the locations inception in 1843 as a mere Prussian settlement called Twangste.A piece of history from a location rich in history. Hitler had envisioned Konigsberg as a museum for everything the Germans had found in Russia Following the end of WWII and the Potsdam Agreement, Konigsberg, Germany became part of the Soviet Union (now Russia) and has remained so ever since. The Soviet Union renamed Konigsberg to Koliningrad. Today Konigsberg is of world interest as a Russian held area that is separated from the rest of Russia by two NATO countries. The situation with Ukraine makes this Russian held area of interest. Russia is most likely where this clock was purchased.Otto Pratje worked at the Konigsberg University with his chief study the geology of sea beds and he participated in the Meteor Atlantic expedition 1925-1926 eminating from Konigsberg. In 1937 he was appointed to establish and direct marine geological section of the Deutshe Seewarte at Hamburg. Both seafaring ventures produced official topographic and administrative maps of Germanys waters. Many dead underwater volcano's rising 1000 ft high in the ocean were identified for the first time with their 1st generation sonar equipment.Clock MechanicsThis Bardon Master clock appears to be one of a kind. Back is marble. Hangs at 52-1/2" long and 12" wide and 7 " deep. This is a battery run master clock with pendulum. Most likely from the Observatory in Koliningrad Konigsberg per the Seewarte seal on the front. Clocks by Bardon, Brillie and Vaucanson all embody similar principles. The coil is in the base. Extremely rare. Made in Clichy, France. Located at Etablissments bardon at the Societe Anonyme de Construction Electrique et Mechanique during the production years 1920-1925. Bardon hanging battery electromagnetic clock with oak case Bardon, Clichy. Charles Edouard GuillaumeThe Nobel Prize in Physics 1920 Precise measurement plays an important role in science. To provide a basis for precise measurements, the metric system and a German legal meter were instituted to define lengths. However, different materials expand differently when temperatures change, which limits the ability to make very precise measurements. In 1896 Charles-Edouard Guillaume succeeded in finding an alloy of nickel and steel that registered almost no change in length and volume as a result of temperature changes. The invar nickel-steel alloy had a significant effect on scientific instruments and incandescent light bulbs and was used in this clock. If you need this item shipped, that would be undertaken on your end. It is a beloved companion that radiates warmth and charm throughout your home.Herschede, Gold Medal Winning Clocks Since 1885, Sheffield Model No 230, Starkvile Mississippi. Purely American Made.Franklin "Frank" Herschede was born on July 30, 1857 in Cincinnati, Ohio.In 1873, at the age of 16, he began working as an apprentice watch and clock repairman for Charles Cook.In 1877, he went into business for himself and moved to Vine and 5th Street in Cincinnati. He diversified into jewelry, watches, diamonds, etc., and in 1885, the store moved to larger quarters at the corner of Arcade and Vine.In 1885, noting the success of Walter H. Durfee, Herschede began importing movements and having cases made in a nearby cabinet shop on Front Street in Cincinnati, Ohio. Frank’s clock business expanded to the point that he purchased the cabinet shop in 1900.In 1901, Frank exhibited in the South Carolina and West Indian Exposition at Charleston, South Carolina, where he received a gold medal for his hall clocks. This was the first of several medals earned by the firm.Frank's son, Walter, graduated from high school in 1902, and began work in the cabinet shop. On December 29, 1902 the Herschede Hall Clock Company was incorporated. In that same year, Herschede began to produce his own tubes and install them in his clocks. In 1903 the Herschede Hall Clock Company factory moved from Front Street to 1011-1015 Plum Street. In 1904 the Herschede Hall Clock Company won several medals in the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904: a gold medal for the best hall clock, a gold medal for the best hall clock cases, and a silver medal for tubular chimes. In 1909, the Herschede Hall Clock Company leased the building next door at 1007-1009 Plum Street to manufacture clock movements. The first movement passed final inspection on January 10, 1911. In 1913, a third melody, “Canterbury Chimes” was added to the Whittington and Westminster chimes. The tune was composed by Charles Eisen, "a gifted American pianist," especially for Herschede. (If you have a Herschede clock with this tune and are a musician, we'd appreciate having the tune so we can add it to our clock chime tunes page in this reference library... contact us and let's talk about how to make this happen... thanks in advance. We'd also like to have a digital recording of this tune.)At the Panama-Pacific International Exposition the firm won two additional major awards: grand prize was presented to the Herschede Hall Clock Company for chime hall clocks and mantel clocks, and a gold medal was awarded for the hall clock cabinets manufactured by the company.By the early 1920's the Herschede Hall Clock Company had opened branch sales offices in New York City, then in Chicago and San Francisco. Frank Herschede died on September 15, 1922, and Walter was named president in January of 1923.In 1925, Walter began to work with Mr. Warren to develop electric movement chime clocks. By April of 1926, the Revere Clock Company came into being.By 1927 the Herschede Hall Clock Company had added a pair of smaller lines of clocks, including a clock (about 6’ in height) and a “petite” clock (generally under 7’ in height). These were produced in the same styles as the larger hall clocks.By 1929 the Herschede Hall Clock Company had some 300 employees, but the Great Depression caused a significant reduction in demand for hall clocks (and just about everything else except jobs)!By 1933 the Herschede Hall Clock Company changed its primary focus on the lower end, introducing an inexpensive line of electric clocks called “Crown Clocks”.On February 4, 1934, Walter's son, Richard Herschede, began working fulltime with his father. The Herschede Hall Clock Company ceased clockmaking during WWII, focusing its manufacturing expertise on observational instruments and optical components for the military. Subsequent to the war, clockmaking resumed, but never regained its pre-war momentum. Eventually, the firm branched out into, of all things, the manufacture of parking meters! In 1952 the Herschede Hall Clock Company began using imported Junghans movements in its non-tubular bell clocks. Then, in 1959, in the midst of extreme economic difficulties, the North Mississippi Industrial Development Association lured the Herschede Hall Clock Company to move its plant to Starkville, Mississippi, with the new factory opening in May of 1960.In 1973, the Herschede Hall Clock Company merged with Howard Furniture and Briarwood Lamps to become Arnold Industries, Inc.On September 23, 1983, Herschede announced a plan to restructure the Herschede Hall Clock division from a manufacturer of the finished clocks to a supplier of quality tubular bell movements to the industry. The firm briefly resumed production of clocks in 1989, making approximately 20 clocks between that year and 1992 under the ownership of Howard W. Klein and Robert Eggering of St. Louis, MO. The firm was then sold to R&M Imports of Waynesville, OH, which manufacturers replacement parts for existing Herschede clocks CONDITIONGood antique condition, wear and distressing commensurate with age and use, light scuffing / marking, working DIMENSIONS24 x 18.5" d x 86" hPAYMENTThe sooner you pay, the sooner you get your item. The Designers Consignment insists on receiving payment within 3 days of your winning bid or Purchase, otherwise we reserve the right to make a second chance offer to the second place bidder or re-list the item. Please let us know if you have any additional questions SHIPPING & HANDLINGWe are currently unable to ship to international US locations. Up for sale is a WWII era (1941) Hamilton Model 22 Marine Box Chronometer housed in a mahogany wood chronometer box. The clock is mounted in a gravity leveled gimbal suspension ring. The clock has been fully tested and is in excellent working condition. The clock is currently keeping good time. This Hamilton Model 22 clock and box are very difficult to find in such excellent condition. The chronometer clock runs steadily with excellent balance amplitude and is currently keeping good time. The clock runs strong and continuously for approximately 63 hours after a full wind-up. These Hamilton U. S. Navy marine navigational chronometers were designated to be wound-up daily, at the same time every day, to maintain maximum timing accuracy, which is key to obtaining maximum navigational accuracy while at sea.The clock's time-set function has been carefully tested and it is working properly. The multiple clock features of the time-set mode safety protection set pin, the time-set pull out stem, and the manual setting of hands are each working very well. The clock winds smoothly, and the mainspring is strong and does not "slip" when winding. The watch dial is in good condition but has 2 small faint streaks on the white surface, and it has some of the typical compression rub marks on the extreme outside edges from contact with the bezel. These rub marks are hidden from view under the bezel rim. See close up photo of the exposed dial and hands. The clock is signed in 3 locations with matching US Naval Observatory issued serial number N 7635, which appears on the bottom and side of the brass clock case, and also on the face of the bezel. The 4 clock hands are clean, straight, and are properly aligned. See close up photo showing hands. The clock "Up Down" winding indicator mechanism and pointer hand are in fully working condition. The winding indicator range is marked for up to 56 hours of run-time, but the mainspring is strong and the clock runs continuously for a bit over 63 hours, which is quite good for one of these old Hamilton model 22 clocks. The clock crystal is clear and is in generally good condition, with a few light scratches which are difficult to see without close inspection. There are none of the common spider-web pattern "crazing" defects on this crystal. The clock movement is complete and appears to be in excellent condition. The movement is running strong and continuously (see hand movements between photos). The Brass Chronometer Case Tub is in good condition for its age, with some light scratches, wear and oxidation. (see photos)The gravity-leveled brass suspension Gimbal Ring, the brass ring-lock assembly, the screws and washers are all present and are in good used condition. All of the related parts function properly. The 3-tier mahogany wood inner box is in exceptional condition. The box wood has no readily evident defects or scratches. There are no splits, gouges or gaps in the wood. This is one of the nicer Hamilton 22 boxes that one is likely to see.The glass viewing plate is clear and is free of any cracks or chips. The polished latches and hinges are in very good cosmetic condition and are each working properly. There is a minor accumulation of oxidation on some parts of the polished surfaces. See photos. No returns unless this item differs materially from the auction description or photos.Although the clock is currently functioning well and keeping good time, I cannot guarantee continued future operation or timing performance. As per best shipping practices for fine marine chronometers, the delicate clock will be carefully removed from the wooden box and packed separately (outside the wood box) with plenty of protection and cushioning Please ask before purchasing if you have any questions. Payment and is $45 to addresses in the U.S.A.The cost of shipping includes tracking and insurance for the full value of the item. The clock will be securely shipped in a well-cushioned, oversize box. This delicate item only ships to addresses in the United States. Sorry, No International Shipping for this item. Due to the delicate nature of this antique, this item only ships to addresses in the United States. Insurance and Tracking are included in the stated shipping price. No returns on this item unless it differs materially from the item description or photos. Payment is expected within 3 days of auction close unless prior arrangements have been made. Note that some states may require payment of sales tax with the purchase of this item. Thank you for looking!

THIS IS A NEW LISTING THAT HAS 2 OF THESE CLOCKS OFFERED FOR ONE PRICE. I HAPPEN TO HAVE 2 AND THEY HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR A LONG TIME. I HAVE ONLY THESE 2. I ADDED THE FIRST 4 PHOTOS FOR THE SECOND CLOCK AND TO SHOW BOTH. Offered in this auction is this pair of clocks that I have had for many years. I purchased them in an estate sale and they have been packed away and forgotten about until now. I tried to do research and came up with very little. When I typed in Jaeger Chronoflite only one came up and the guy was asking a clock club what it was worth. I couldn't see an answer. &nb

The pieces they made during WW-II are highly collectable, but all of their clocks in general are high-quality collectables. It appears to be a 24-hour winder. (Although it is difficult to see in the photographs, all the pieces of the clock have been inconspicuously etched with the specific clock number: F 45947. ).
"JUST" (PARIS) GILDED & NICKEL PLATED BRONZE DESK ALARM CLOCKRETAILED BY GOLAY FILS & STAHL, GENEVE OLD WORLD CRAFTSMANSHIP, UNIQUE DESIGN, DETAIL, QUALITY & AESTHETICS This prestigious showpiece of post WWII European horology is from my personal collection of vintage and antique clocks curated since the early 1970s. Time has come for the stunning Louis XVI inspired gilt-bronze timepiece to reach an appreciative new home. I've not encountered a comparable quality alarm clock in a career spanning fifty years; first in clock restoration and sales, followed by 42 years as a professional appraiser of antiques, decorative and fine art. No expense was spared in manufacture. Every millimeter of the case is finished to fine jewelry standards. Charles Hour introduced the "Just" line of clocks in the 1920s, coinciding with emergence of innovative Parisian Art Deco furnishings, fine and decorative arts. By the early 1950s, French manufacturing and the economy had largely recovered from the devastating aftermath of WWII. Merging with Maurice Lavigne as Hour Lavigne, the firm produced the most exclusive and costly French clocks. Their gilt-bronze models featured unique designs often embellished with hand engraving. The rear edge of the case is inscribed with the venerable merchant's name. Manufacturing jewelers and gemologists Golay Fils & Stahl was founded in 1837. The highly regarded Geneva based firm continues business today. Please visit their website for company history. The unmarked top-of-the-line 15-jewel lever escapement movement is unquestionably an Angelus product. Among several distinguishing features of Angelus alarm clocks - "color coded" hinged keys and set knobs. Gold for the time train. Black for alarm winding and setting. The clock has been maintained in superb original condition. It displays handsomely on a shelf, desk, side table or nightstand Please review descriptive information and study the photographs for details. eBay Vintage Seth Thomas Ship's Bell Clock Mounted on Oak Base with Brass Bands Runs and Strikes 7" Bezel Item Description Nice Vintage Seth Thomas Ship's Wall Clock (Time & Ship's Bell Strike) for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep it for yourself! Nice looking wall clock here. Made by the Seth Thomas Company in the USA. This is not the smaller 4" case model. This is the larger 7" case model. Have not take the clock face off to see what the serial number is. Would guess from design that the clock was made prior to WWII.Nice brass lacquered case here. Some finish loss, most notably on the 4 to 6 o'clock position on the bezel. The numbering and minute marking are done in black on the silver background face. The hands match and look appropriate to the clock. The seconds hand is also in place and moves as expected. The slow/fast adjustment lever is in place on the face of the clock, and seems to work as well. The brass case is all there. No dings or dents to the metal case. Does show some minor lacquer loss to the case, mostly on the bezel and some discoloration on the sides of the case. The case has a latch bezel that is securely on it's hinge. The glass is intact, no cracks or blistering to the glass. The clock has an 8 day mechanical brass movement. The wind springs feels sound when keyed. The clock will come with a vintage wind key that is on a chain attached to the oak wood case. So, the clock is being sold in running and striking condition. Someone hand made this oak wood base the Ship's Clock is mounted on. Has a bottom piece and then a back piece that is secured to the bottom by brass straps on each side. Some chipping to the caseThe Seth Thomas Ship's Wall Clock on wood stand is 10-3/8" tall, by 12-7/8" across, by 7.5" wide. The Ship's Clock is 7" across by the front bezel, by 4" wide. The clock face is 5" across. A heavy piece, so expect the shipping cost to reflect that. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description. As can be expected when dealing with a vintage clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, we would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it. Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 15% restocking fee to do so. So again, ask all questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the clock on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don't be shy, we are always open to reasonable suggestions! This clock is just waiting for the right collector out there to acquire and refurbish for their collection. I am offering a World War II Hamilton Ref. 37500 Elasped Time Chronograph Date aircraft clock. I've included a video of the clock functions. This model of clock was the pinnacle of airplane clocks and actually manufactured by both Hamilton and Elgin due to the complexity of these units. I purchased this example at a NAWCC Convention in Orlando, FL in the early 2000's. My intention was to have it mounted on the dashboard of a Morgan I commissioned. Alas that did not come to fruition and I never received the Morgan but still have the clock. It is in excellent condition and was serviced previously to my purchase. It is currently running and keeping time. The chronograph does function correctly. As the service was done 20+ years ago the ultimate collector would have is lubricated. No damage on the Bakelite type case. The glass crystal is excellent and it it a very nice example. I have priced it aggressively and would like it to sell to someone who appreciates the rarity and complexity of the pinnacle of American aircraft clock design. Please e-mail with any questions. Thanks for looking. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
eBay Vtg Chelsea Ship's Clock w/ Seconds Hand Sun Shipbuilding Dry Dock Co. Porthole Look Composite Case Works Item Description Here is a great American Ship's Bell clock that was made by Chelsea for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep for yourself.A nice looking gold colored lacquer look case on this clock. The case is made of some sort of composite material. The case has a porthole look to it. Would guess the clock dates to sometime after the WWII period. Notes Chelsea Clock Co, and Boston on the back of the case. The clock was some sort of presentation piece at the Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. of Chester, PA USA. Noted on the face of the clock. The bezel (door) is attached to the rest of the case by a hinge. The locking screw is on the other side of the bezel. Flat glass in the bezel is intact. Just some minor surface scratching to the glass, no cracks or blistering. The clock will come with a wind key.The clock has been running since we acquired it. Think this is an 8 day movement. This is a time only clock. The spring feels sound on the movement when keyed. The clock's hands all move as they should including the seconds hand. So, selling the clock in running condition at this juncture. The clock face shows some discoloration, wear to finish, and fading from age and is intact. The clock has both its' minute and hour hands as well as the seconds hand. The clock's composite case is 7-5/8" across, by 7-5/8" tall, by 2-9/16" wide (2-5/8" tall by the lock screw). The clock face is 5" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate.
