Antique 1860s E. Howard & Co Boston Astronomical Regulator Gravity Clock #233

Sold on eBay February 25th, 2024

Antique 1860s E. Howard & Co Boston Astronomical Regulator Gravity Clock #233

Antique 1860s E. Howard & Co Boston Astronomical Regulator Gravity Clock #233 Antique 1860s E. Howard & Co Boston Astronomical Regulator Gravity Clock #233 Description This auction is for one of three really amazing antique clocks I have listed this week from the same massive local estate. The clock is an extremely rare Astronomical Regulator that was made by E. Howard & Company probably back in the 1860s or so. It has the number 233 on the dial. The massive clock measures about 60" tall, 18.5" wide and 11" deep and the back of the clock is a solid steel plate, so it weighs about 300 lbs. The clock has the original pendulum and single and is in excellent cosmetic condition. The only issue I see is that the piece that the pendulum sits on as a pivot point has a broken pendulum wire or strap that needs to be replaced (very common part and an easy fix). When it was together and wall mounted it worked good, so it should run fine once that strap is repaired. Looks to be all original. Note that this can't obviously be shipped easily, but I can arrange for shipping. It will be expensive - probably $1000-$2000 depending on location. Pick up is recommended and FREE - located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Guaranteed as described! Bardon Clichy Master Wall Clock Konigsberg Germany Seal 1923 Pendulum Battery

Sold on eBay March 16th, 2024

Bardon Clichy Master Wall Clock Konigsberg Germany Seal 1923 Pendulum Battery

HistoryVery little made it thru the WWII attacks on Konigsberg, Germany. First the shelling from the Royal Air Force inn August of 1944 and then by Soviet shelling in April of 1945. This one of a kind, Master Bardon clock, with a Konigsberg Seewarte seal somehow survived. Whether it was sheltered in the underground German bunkers or in the partial remains of the Konigsberg Observatory it did survive. The Observatory, a semi-circular two story research and observation facility with a brick vault (considered a regional architectural monument) is related to the clock via the Seewarte engraving on the clock seal."Seewarte" loosely translates as Naval Observatory or Oceanic Observatory or it could also be referring to the Atlantic Meteor voyage which mapped the ocean floor with the first sonic equipment and included the Konigsberg area in 1925-1927. The seal on this clock is also engraved Conigsberg, as it was first spelled for a period following the locations inception in 1843 as a mere Prussian settlement called Twangste.A piece of history from a location rich in history. Hitler had envisioned Konigsberg as a museum for everything the Germans had found in Russia Following the end of WWII and the Potsdam Agreement, Konigsberg, Germany became part of the Soviet Union (now Russia) and has remained so ever since. The Soviet Union renamed Konigsberg to Koliningrad. Today Konigsberg is of world interest as a Russian held area that is separated from the rest of Russia by two NATO countries. The situation with Ukraine makes this Russian held area of interest. Russia is most likely where this clock was purchased.Otto Pratje worked at the Konigsberg University with his chief study the geology of sea beds and he participated in the Meteor Atlantic expedition 1925-1926 eminating from Konigsberg. In 1937 he was appointed to establish and direct marine geological section of the Deutshe Seewarte at Hamburg. Both seafaring ventures produced official topographic and administrative maps of Germanys waters. Many dead underwater volcano's rising 1000 ft high in the ocean were identified for the first time with their 1st generation sonar equipment.Clock MechanicsThis Bardon Master clock appears to be one of a kind. Back is marble. Hangs at 52-1/2" long and 12" wide and 7 " deep. This is a battery run master clock with pendulum. Most likely from the Observatory in Koliningrad Konigsberg per the Seewarte seal on the front. Clocks by Bardon, Brillie and Vaucanson all embody similar principles. The coil is in the base. Extremely rare. Made in Clichy, France. Located at Etablissments bardon at the Societe Anonyme de Construction Electrique et Mechanique during the production years 1920-1925. Bardon hanging battery electromagnetic clock with oak case Bardon, Clichy. Charles Edouard GuillaumeThe Nobel Prize in Physics 1920 Precise measurement plays an important role in science. To provide a basis for precise measurements, the metric system and a German legal meter were instituted to define lengths. However, different materials expand differently when temperatures change, which limits the ability to make very precise measurements. In 1896 Charles-Edouard Guillaume succeeded in finding an alloy of nickel and steel that registered almost no change in length and volume as a result of temperature changes. The invar nickel-steel alloy had a significant effect on scientific instruments and incandescent light bulbs and was used in this clock. If you need this item shipped, that would be undertaken on your end. Your shipper would need to pack item and pick it up. If you are willing to make those arrangements it is an option for shipping. (Condition: Pre-Owned)

JAEGER LECOULTRE ATMOS MOON PHASE Cal. 540 CLOCK COMPLETE SET

Sold on eBay May 16th, 2025

JAEGER LECOULTRE ATMOS MOON PHASE Cal. 540 CLOCK COMPLETE SET

JAEGER LECOULTRE ATMOS MOON PHASE Cal. 540 CLOCK COMPLETE SETAtmos caliber 540 with moon phase in a gold-plated case, this is a "New Old Stock" item from a private collector, comes with original box and matched serial number tag, manuals and an original moon phase adjustment tool included.Serial number: 706461.Condition:New Old Stock in Excellent working condition! We have the clock run for two days and it maintains excellent performance, keeping excellent time! The original dark blue box has clear signs of wear, the original foam wrap bag for the clock wrapping has been teared, please see the last picture for details. Please understand that you are buying a Atmos clock, the Atmos clocks do not keep perfect time like the modern quartz clocks.I live in Colorado, the city of Colorado Springs is 6,035 feet above sea level, and some of our most celebrated natural attractions are even higher--like Pikes Peak, at an impressive 14,115 feet above sea level. Since this clock is now tuned for time at high altitude, if the new owner lives at a lower altitude, some necessary calibration upon arrival at the destination might be required. After shipping, the Atmos clock might need some adjustment. If you move the Atmos clock from one room to the other,Please make sure to lock the balance wheel before doing any moving and adjustments. The adjustments of the liquid level may be needed after each move.Even if noted as working great, due to its age, it might need service anytime. Please understand that due to the delicate nature of these Atmos clock adjustments may be needed after each move.We have shipped a number of these fine Atmos clocks to various countries without any damage problems. The balance wheel(pendulum) will be locked carefully, and the clock packed with double boxes, ship with full coverage insurance to USA 48 States ONLY. Due to the high value and fragility of this clock, we do not offer international shipping.Interesting facts:Even though Leonardo da Vinci was able to prove that the production of a perpetual motion machine was physically impossible, it was still attempted time and again. In 1928, Neuchatel engineer Jean Leon Reuter invented the technology for a clock whose energy source was drawn from the ambient air, from the atmosphere so to speak. As there were repeated problems with the watches, the movements were manufactured by Le Coultre et Cie in Switzerland from 1933 and in 1935 the production rights for the Atmos watch were transferred to Ets. Ed. Jaeger in 1935.The technical principle of the movements built by Jaeger Le Coultre from 1936 onwards is simply captivating: a mixture of a liquid and ethyl chloride gas is contained in a hermetically sealed capsule. As the temperature rises, the mixture expands, and as the temperature falls, it contracts, causing a bellows in the pressure box on the back of the watch to move like an accordion. This movement continuously winds up the movement. In the range between 15 and 30?C, a change in temperature of just one degree Celsius is enough to provide the energy for around two days of running time. (Condition: New (Other))

Antique Edo Period Japanese Inro Watch / Clock & Sundial / Compass 1700s RARE

Sold on eBay September 30th, 2023

Antique Edo Period Japanese Inro Watch / Clock & Sundial / Compass 1700s RARE

This listing is for an antique extremely rare Edo-period. Japanese gilt-brass mounted shitan wood watch (INRO-DOKEI). It is an exquisite piece, with a carved wooden case, and a beautifully carved metal movement; along with an extraordinary compass / sundial that has a case made of mokume-gane. It is likely from the late Edo Period, from what my research can find. I am unsure the exact year of its manufacture, but it appears to be potentially mid to late 1700s to early 1800s. A Japanese version of a portable compact watch in a casing resembling a pillbox, along with its compass. I have not been able to narrow down a maker yet, but it appears that the golden bead attached to the compass has both a potential signature and an exquisite lotus flower. These pieces were made before any sort of standardized time that we are used to, so the compass & sundial were integral for helping to keep your clock keep time while out & about. Japanese Inro clock-watches & their compass/ sundials of this caliber do not come often, especially not on ebay. Usually these are tied up in big-name auctions, with high buyer-premiums & extra fees; so grab this one now while you can!It appears to be in working condition, however I have not fully wound it up, due to my lack of experience with clocks of this kind. It appears to wind and run just fine though, there do not seem to be any broken mechanics, and the chain is complete and seemingly mint. I have not applied any oil or taken it apart in any way (other than sliding it out of the wooden case) so as not to cause damage. It is as-found, but in excellent condition. The curved rectangular case with its glass has an amazingly detailed hand carved design. The front has some filigree & leaved, the back displays two monks, or a monk & a god, playing some version of checkers under a blossoming tree. As you can see, the case has cracked in two during some point in its life. It seems that it could be delicately glued & restored to one whole unit, but I have not done so, as I do not know the correct glue to use. It may also be missing a metal bezel for the glass, but the glass is not loose. Restoration is up to buyers preferences. I am not sure if there were originally any top or bottom wooden panels held in place by the cord that are now lost. Comes with all the casing pieces shown. The metal front plate is engraved with leafy branches, the number panels, which can be slid depending on the time of year appear to be hand carved. The single chain fusee movement with verge escapement and plain balance with pierced and engraved bridgecock, with backplate with balance regulation scale and engraved with floral branches. It has a cord terminating with the engraved copper Damascus drum-shaped netsuke, opening to reveal a silver compass and sundial. It has its original gilt lacquer or potentially even gold, bead; an ojime. If you look in the carved copper body of the compass you can see the Mokume-gane (???) which it is made of. It is a Japanese metalworking procedure which produces a mixed-metal laminate with distinctive layered patterns; the term is also used to refer to the resulting laminate itself. The term mokume-gane translates closely to "wood grain metal" or "wood eye metal" and describes the way metal takes on the appearance of natural wood grain.[1] Mokume-gane fuses several layers of differently coloured precious metals together to form a sandwich of alloys called a "billet." To the best I can tell, that is what this compass case is made of, though besides copper I am unsure the metals used. The loop to hold the thread & its embossed attachment piece, as well as the compass & sundial faces may be silver, but I am not sure. I have not tested any of the metal content at all, to not damage it. The dial has adjustable silvered engraved characters which represent the time as indicated by the hand. I believe the characters are two sequences of nine to four with the zodiac symbols used for the nine to represent noon and midnight. At the end of the Edo Period, pendulums and balance springs started to be used in speed regulators. Because it was difficult to adjust the time variations of both the four seasons and day and night mechanically, a hand-rotated dial of numbers that changed the time interval was conceived. The small rotating dial is engraved with text for 12 periods of time (the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac or numbered hours from 9 to 4). Japanese traditional clocks mainly in the Edo period that conformed to the temporal hour system developed uniquely in Japan, drawing attention from researchers in the world, and being highlighted in foreign books and studied. These clocks are highly sought after, many are on display in museums or locked away in private collections, but few are ever for sale. This clock comes from a massive estate collection, and was extremely well cared for in a temperature controlled room. Please check back this weekend & next week for multiple other antique & unique clocks I will be listing!Thank you for your consideration, reasonable offers are always considered. Please see photos for details & measurements, comes as shown- “lightly/semi tested”. Description is based upon research available. With any clock, this one may require set up and/or adjustment after shipment, however rest assured it will be packaged with extreme care suitable for such a quality item.(Please note- Shipping is within the US, lower 48 states, only. No exceptions. Item must be paid for within 4 days of purchase, unless arranged otherwise, or your order will be cancelled & relisted. )(Please note- Shipping is within the US, lower 48 states, only. No exceptions. )Please feel free to read on below for a brief history of clocks in Japan, courtesy of the Japan Clock & Watch Association’s remarkably informative site: As Christianity spread in Japan, missionaries established vocational schools affiliated with churches in Kyushu and Kyoto. In addition to print technology, organs, and astronomical instruments, these schools taught production techniques for clocks. Japanese blacksmiths manufactured clocks under the guidance of these schools, resulting in the first mechanical clock production in Japan.According to the "Owari-shi" (a periodical from the Owari territory) compiled in 1832, Sukezaemon Tsuda from Nagoya City repaired a clock belonging to Ieyasu Tokugawa, and then used it as a model to create a new clock, which he offered to Ieyasu. For his service, Sukezaemon Tsuda was employed by Ieyasu in 1598. However, the shogunate government soon banned Christianity and adopted a policy of seclusion, which blocked the flow of new technology from Europe. Thus, it was possible to come in contact with cultural items from places such as China and Holland through Nagasaki only, and this also affected Japanese traditional clock production Clock makers gradually increased around the country, with many working as personal clock makers for the shogunate family and feudal lords for whom they were making gorgeous articles. Japanese traditional clock production sites included first and foremost Nagasaki, as well as Matsue, Kyoto, Osaka, Sakai, Ise, Nagoya, Wakasa, Edo, Sendai, Morioka, and Hirosaki. In Europe, mechanical clocks appeared as timekeeping switched from a variable to fixed method, but Japan at that time used a unique temporal hour system. As a result, clock production basically remained a copy of early European methods. Rather than work to increase the precision of clocks, Japanese clock makers focused on creativity and originality to conform to the country's unique temporal hour system. This resulted in the development of unique Japanese traditional clocks not seen elsewhere. (Condition: Pre-Owned)

THE NEST OF SONORA BELLS THE RESTORATION PROCESS INCLUDED COMPLETE DISASSEMBLY AND INSPECTION OF EVERY ASPECT OF THE CLOCK. THE SONORA CHIME BELLS AND CHIME BLOCK ASSEMBLY WERE CAREFULLY DISASSEMBLED, CLEANED TO RESTORE THE RESONANT TIMBRE OF THE SONORA BELLS, AND EXAMINED FOR CONDITION TO INSURE THE ABSENCE OF HAIRLINE CRACKS, ETC. SUPERSIZE PHOTO 9 SHOWS THE BELL NEST WITH SOUND CAVITIES THAT CAN BE SEEN ON THE END OF THE WOODEN NEST. ALSO PICTURED IS THE SONORA 1908 ORIGINAL PATENT THAT IS STAMPED INTO THE SIDE OF THE BELL NEST. CAREFUL INSPECTION OF THE BELLS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: · ONE HAIRLINE CRACK CAN CAUSE A SONORA BELL TO LOSE ALL TONE AND TIMBRE, AND THE BEGINNING OF A HAIRLINE WILL ALMOST ALWAYS GROW TO A FULL HAIRLINE CRACK. · IN ADDITION, OTHER ISSUES WITH CRACKED, BROKEN, OR DETERIORATED WOODEN AND PRESSED FELT BELL SPACERS, USED TO SEPARATE THE BELLS, WILL IMPACT THE SOUND, YET CANNOT BE DETECTED BY CASUAL INSPECTION. · EACH BELL WAS COMPARED WITH A STANDARD FOR PROPER PITCH AND TIMBRE. · THE ONLY WAY TO ASSURE YOURSELF OF NOT BECOMING VICTIM TO PROBLEMS IS VIA FULL AUTHENTICATION OF THE COMPONENTS, WHICH IS MY PLEDGE TO YOU, THE BUYER. MOVEMENTS - #89X AND #104E BOTH THE 89X TIME AND HOUR STRIKE MOVEMENT, AND THE 104E SONORA CHIME MOVEMENTS WERE DISASSEMBLED, CLEANED WITH ULTRASONICS, INSPECTED IN DETAIL FOR CONDITION OF THE PIVOT BUSHINGS, GEAR TRAIN, AND ARBOR OR PIVOT ABNORMALITIES. OUT OF TOLERANCE BUSHINGS WERE REPLACED. EVERY OPERATIONAL ASPECT OF EACH MOVEMENT WAS ADDRESSED. THE MOVEMENTS WERE THEN REASSEMBLED AND PROPERLY LUBRICATED; A VIEW OF THE COMPONENTS CAN BE SEEN IN PHOTO 10. THE GREAT MAINSPRING IN THE 104E WAS REMOVED FROM ITS RETAINING BARREL, FULLY UNWOUND, PROPERLY CLEANED, INSPECTED, REWOUND, AND LUBRICATED WITH MAINSPRING INDUSTRUAL GRADE LUBRICANT. REPLACEMENT OF THE 136 INCH #104 MAINSPRING IS NEITHER RECOMMENDED NOR REQUIRED, AS LONG AS THE EXISTING MAINSPRING EXCEEDS SPECIFICATIONS, AS THIS ONE DOES. A NEW MANUFACTURE REPLACEMENT MAINSPRING TO FIT THE #104 HAS DIFFERENT STRENGTH AND TORQUE CHARACTERISTICS FROM THE ORIGINAL, AND MAY CREATE EXCESSIVE FORCES WITHIN THE MOVEMENT. IMPORTANT: THERE ARE SEVERAL CRITICAL ITEMS OF THE #104E CHIME MOVEMENT. PAY SPECIAL NOTICE TO THESE THREE CRITICAL COMPONENTS: THE GREAT WHEEL GEAR, THE SECOND WHEEL GEAR WITH PINION, AND THE CHIME DRUM THAT SYNCHRONIZES AND DRIVES THE CHIME HAMMERS. IF ANY OF THESE COMPONENTS IS ABOUT TO FAIL, IT MAY NOT BE OBVIOUS. WHEN IT OCCURS, THE COST TO REPAIR WILL GIVE YOU A JOLT, BECAUSE THERE ARE NONE IN SUPPLY CHANNELS; ANOTHER MOVEMENT WILL BE REQUIRED. THAT IS WHY I ALWAYS MAKE SURE THESE CRITICAL COMPONENTS ARE IN TOP CONDITION ON MY RESTORED SETH SONORA CLOCKS. PLEASE STUDY THE SUPERSIZE HIGH RESOLUTION PHOTOS TO REVIEW ALL ASPECTS OF THE SONORA CHIME 2000. THE WINDING HOLE NEAR THE “8” IS FOR THE HOUR COUNT CHIME; THE ONE NEAR THE “4” IS FOR THE TIME TRAIN. BOTH THE HOUR COUNT AND TIME TRAIN ARE HANDLED BY THE NO. 89X MOVEMENT. ANOTHER HOLE AT THE “3” IS FOR WINDING THE QUARTER-HOUR WESTMINSTER AND WHITTINGTON CHIMES, HANDLED BY THE NO. 104E MOVEMENT. A SMALLER HOLE BELOW THE HAND SHAFT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DIAL IS FOR ACCESSING THE SLOW-FAST TIME ADJUSTMENT. A SLIDE LEVER ON THE SIDE OF THE CASE IS FOR CHIME-SILENT OPERATION. WHEN OPERATED, THE QUARTER HOUR CHIMES WILL BE SILENCED. THE TOP LEFT SUBSIDIARY DIAL WILL SILENCE THE HOUR STRIKE IF DESIRED. THE TOP RIGHT SUBSIDIARY PROVIDES FOR SELECTION BETWEEN WHITTINGTON AND WESTMINSTER CHIMES. THE DIAL IS LARGE AND CAN BE VIEWED WITH EASE IN A LARGE ROOM OR VENUE. THE 89X MOVEMENT HANDLES THE TIME AND HOUR STRIKE FUNCTIONS AND THE 104E MOVEMENT HANDLES THE QUARTER HOUR FUNCTIONS. EACH QUARTER HOUR SEQUENCE IS SOUNDED ON THE DEEP TONED BELLS WITH RICH HARMONICS, TIMBRE AND LINGERING DECAY WHEN STRUCK. THE WHITTINGTON MELODY SEQUENCES ARE SOUNDED OUT USING ALL EIGHT SONORA BELLS, AND THE WESTMINSTER SEQUENCE IS SOUNDED OF FOUR OF THE BELLS. THE HOUR COUNT ON BOTH WHITTINGTON AND WESTMINSTER IS SOUNDED AS A FULL BODIED MUSICAL NOTE ON DEEP TONED BELL NUMBER 8. PLEASE MAKE IT A POINT TO LISTEN AND CAREFULLY REVIEW THE ATTACHED SOUND FILES IN ORDER TO FULLY APPRECIATE WHY OWNERS APPRECIATED THEIR NEW AND, AT THE TIME, VERY EXPENSIVE 8 BELL DEEP TONED BELL SONORA 2000 CLOCKS. ALSO INCLUDED IS THE ORIGINALLY ISSUED “BOY ON A FENCE” PENDULUM BOB AND A CORRECT BRASS DOUBLE ENDED KEY. RESTORATION AND TECHNICAL DETAILS PLEASE OBSERVE THAT NEARLY HALF OF MY LISTING PORTFOLIO CONTAINS INFORMATION ABOUT THE MECHANICAL ASPECTS AND MOVEMENT RESTORATIONS YOU DESERVE, AND SHOULD EXPECT, A RESTORED ANTIQUE SETH OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY AND RELIABILITY.I STRIVE TO EXCEED YOUR EXPECTATIONS RATHER THAN SIMPLY SELL YOU AN ANTIQUE CLOCK. SUPERSIZE PHOTO 10 SHOWS THE BELL NEST WITH SOUND CAVITIES THAT CAN BE SEEN ON THE END OF THE WOODEN NEST. THE MOVEMENTS WERE THEN REASSEMBLED AND PROPERLY LUBRICATED; BOTH MAINSPRINGS IN THE 89X WERE REPLACED WITH NEW HIGHEST GRADE 120 INCH MAINSPRINGS, NOT THE LOWER QUALITY 96 INCH KIND THAT ARE MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE. THE GREAT MAINSPRING IN THE 104E WAS REMOVED FROM ITS RETAINING BARREL, FULLY UNWOUND, PROPERLY CLEANED, INSPECTED, REWOUND, AND LUBRICATED WITH MAINSPRING INDUSTRUAL GRADE LUBRICANT. REPLACEMENT OF THE 120 INCH #104 MAINSPRING IS NEITHER RECOMMENDED NOR REQUIRED, AS LONG AS THE EXISTING MAINSPRING EXCEEDS SPECIFICATIONS, AS THIS ONE DOES. A NEW MANUFACTURE REPLACEMENT MAINSPRING TO FIT THE #104 HAS DIFFERENT STRENGTH AND TORQUE CHARACTERISTICS FROM THE ORIGINAL, AND MAY CREATE EXCESSIVE FORCES WITHIN THE MOVEMENT. IMPORTANT: THERE ARE SEVERAL SCARCE ITEMS OF THE #104E MOVEMENT. GOOD COUNSEL ON A CONTEMPLATED 8 BELL SONORA ACQUISITION WOULD BE: IF ONE ELECTS TO PURCHASE A SONORA OF UNKNOWN CONDITION – EVEN IF WORKING, BY ALL MEANS HOPE FOR THE BEST, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, BE PREPARED FOR PROBLEMS, SUBSEQUENT OPERATIONAL ISSUES AND EXTREME FRUSTRATION, AS WELL AS CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE. JUST LISTEN TO THE ATTACHED SOUND FILES FOR AN ACCURATE RENDERING OF THE CLARITY, RESONANCE, TONE DEPTH, TEMPO AND RICH DECAY OF EACH NOTE STRUCK WHEN THE SONORA 2000 CHIMES AND STRIKES THE HOUR. AFTER REASSAMBLY, APPROPRIATE ADJUSTMENTS FOR TIME, CHIME, HOUR STRIKE, SYNCHRONIZATION PENDULUM RATE AND BEAT ERROR ETC. WERE ACCOMPLISHED USING MECHANICAL AND ELECTRONIC MEANS. AN EXTENDED BENCH RUN TEST FOLLOWED. SEVERAL PHOTOS OF THE RESTORATION WORK ARE PART OF THE PORTFOLIO. ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL INFORMATION: · AS PART OF THE TESTS AND ADJUSTMENTS PROCEDURES ON THE #89X MOVEMENT, THE PENDULUM BEAT ERROR AND THE PENDULUM BEAT RATE ARE CHECKED AND SET - AN OBJECTIVE OF NEAR ZERO FOR BEAT ERROR IS DESIRED. THIS RESTORED 89X MOVEMENT ADJUSTED TO ZERO ERROR AND STABILIZED AT ZERO ERROR. THIS ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE IS HIGHLIGHTED IN PHOTO 11. · FOR PENDULUM BEAT RATE, THE 89X IS DESIGNED TO RUN AT 9,777 BEATS PER HOUR. THE RESTORED MOVEMENT EASILY HELD THE 9,777 BEAT RATE, MEANING THE TIME KEEPING WILL BE DEPENDABLE AND THE MOVEMENT WILL GIVE RELIABLE SERVICE. IN FACT, BOTH MOVEMENTS IN THE SONORA 2000 WERE RESTORED TO SUPERIOR CONDITIION. THE PENDULUM BEAT RATE ADJUSTMENT IS ALSO HIGHLIGHTED IN SUPERSIZE PHOTO 11. · THE PENDULUM SWING ARC OF THE RESTORED 89X FRONT MOVEMENT IS A FULL 3 1/2 INCHES, VERY ROBUST AND EXCEEDING ORIGINAL SPECIFICATIONS. A HEALTY PENDULUM SWING IS A POSITIVE INDICATOR OF A HEALTY MOVEMENT THAT HAS VERY LITTLE FRICTION AND LOTS OF ENERGY. BEWARE OF A #89X MOVEMENT WITH A PENDULUM AMPLITUDE OF 2 ½ INCHES OR LESS – A SIGN OF POOR MOVEMENT HEALTH. THE FULL RESTORATION OF A SETH THOMAS 8 BELL SERIES 2000 SONORA, AS DESCRIBED ABOVE, IS AN $1,500 VALUE IN AND OF ITSELF. 8 Day Miniature English William Congreve Rolling Ball Clock with Marble Base

MINIATURE CONGREVE ROLLING BALL 8 DAY WORLD SMALLEST MINI CONGREVE ROLLING BALL CLOCK Here is a beautiful miniature Congreve rolling ball clock. This one is the SMALLEST you can find. Don't settle for anything in the middle, either go big or small. The first Congreve clock is invented by an English - Sir W. Congreve in 1808 and it's valued over $10,000 if you can find one. This one comes with a solid marble display base and protective dome. The glass dome has solid brass frames. The clock is made of heavy solid brass. The time shows on 3 separated porcelain dials - second, minute, and hour. The clock is driven by a double spring movement. It is really fun to watch this clock running. It has an 8 DAY movement. The bigger version from our competitor wouldn't even run 8 days. Our smallest 8 day Congreve clock will really amazes any guests in your home or shop. The small steel ball is rolling back and forth on the lower platform with a zigzag track. When the ball reaches the end of the table, it triggers the lever and the platform instantly tilts. Then the steel ball starts to roll back to the other end. It takes the steel ball 12 seconds to roll from one side to the other. The complete clock is 9" tall and 8-7/8" by 5-7/8" wide, the smallest you can find in the market. This clock comes with a adjustable display stand, so the clock will work perfectly even the surface is not. This is a very rare miniature Congreve rolling ball clock, which you just don't see anywhere else. Make sure you don't miss this profitable item for your collection or store display. The Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway Wall Clock, Ca 1885

Sold on eBay November 20th, 2023

The Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway Wall Clock, Ca 1885

eBay The Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway thrived on the Transporting of heavy freight, primarily Pennsylvania coal, and its passenger service was characterized as "second to none".[23] The first passenger run took place on the Rochester and State Line Railroad on its 15 September 1874 run from Rochester to Le Roy. The last was on 15 October 1955, when the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad ended its Buffalo - Pittsburgh service. Although the BR&P was not a passenger line, it put a first-class effort into the passenger service that it provided the public. The locomotives used represented the best available, as did the care given these engines, leading to an enviable record for on-time completion of trips.I have a copy of a FURNITURE AND FIXTURES sheet where they show Serial numbers on all chairs ,tables, stoves, clocks Etc.....This clock has a Serial # M100, stamped on the inside backboard, and on the top behind the dial, shown in pics. The Railroads bought their clocks All the plaques and signs, maps, etc. shown, come with the clock. The one that is in a wood frame with old original wavy glass is late 1800's direct from the maker. I see a lot of wall clocks that are said to be Railroad style of clocks. If they are not owned by a Railroad, they are just a wall clock. Original true Railroad clocks are very rarely seen as this one is.The Railroad bought their clocks Direct from the maker, as this one was Seth Thomas. Then Seth Thomas does not put their label in the clock. It is papered inside with a felt like paper, and again, no labelThis Seth Thomas "World" model that is time only and will run about 23 days per wind. This one doesn't have the over wind stops, so try not to over wind.If it stops, I wind each side around 16 half turns. You'll get the hang of it.All the plaques and signs, maps, etc. shown, come with the clock. The one that is in a wood frame and back, with old original wavy glass is late 1800's If you want it fully insured, let me know so I can give the cost.I think UPS is $100 to start. On Nov-14-23 at 12:54:31 PST, seller added the following information:If thinking about this rare true RR clock. Think about the time you last saw one? For most, never. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
Chelsea "The Mariner" Ship's Bell Clock Ltd Ed on Wood Base Running & Striking

Sold on eBay November 20th, 2023

Chelsea "The Mariner" Ship's Bell Clock Ltd Ed on Wood Base Running & Striking

eBay Chelsea "The Mariner" Ship's Bell Clock w/ Mahogany Base Limited Edition 6" Clock Face - Running & Striking Ltd Ed Repro of the 1911 Yacht Wheel Clock Item Description Beautiful Vintage Chelsea Ship's Bell Clock, the Mariner model, here for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep it for yourself! The pictures do not do justice to the size of this piece, it stands 17.5" tall.Nice looking marine/nautical clock here. Made by the Chelsea Clock Company in the USA. "The Mariner" model is one of the most sought out Ship's Bell clocks made by Chelsea. This is a limited edition release of this model by Chelsea. Would guess from design that the clock was made sometime in the ??? (still researching). This offering by Chelsea was only a 500 limited edition run, so very rare to find one outside of Chelsea or a fine jeweler. this clock is number 65 of 500.The original this model is based upon was first issued by Chelsea in 1911This fine Ship's Bell Clock is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a high end auction house or clock shop. We have been selling items out of our home for over 35 years. We can therefore better control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the high end auction houses and Clock Shops experience.Get this for a nice discount from what you would pay at the Chelsea store website, or a fine jeweler, which are typically offering this mode at around $6,250.This nautically inspired clock is considered one of the finest ever made in this country. A true masterpiece. Has a ship's wheel styled case that then sits on a beautiful mahogany wood base. The clock has a ship's bell mechanism which strikes 1 to 4 double bells at the 12, 4 8, & 12 hours. Then at the half hour the movement strikes the double bells for the hour and one bell strike for the half hour. The movement has an 11 jeweled movement. The movement itself is made from 364 brass and gold plated precision parts The solid brass bezel is opened by the side button latch on the left and then is hinged on the right side. Bezel is securely attached and latch working as expected. The clock's face is crafted from etched/incised brass that is hand silvered, enameled and lacquered. The Ship's Wheel ring is finished using a hand-rubbed process and then lacquered to prevent tarnish. A heavy piece here, weighs around 33lbs before packing, so expect the shipping cost to reflect that.Nice brass colored lacquered case here. Ship's wheel spindles are all in place. The brass case is all there. Very minor finish loss to the brass clock case and the wood base from use/age. No dings or dents to the metal case. The glass is intact, no cracks or blisters. There is a line of some sort of residue or glue on the right back side of the mahogany case, see pic. There is a slight scratch on the bezel by the number 1. A small blemish on the bronzed metal base above the wood bottom closer to the right side. The clock comes in the bottom part of the original case, no top, and with some of the original Chelsea paperwork. The bottom of the box shows some minor wear and tear. The clock has an 8 day mechanical brass movement. The wind springs feel sound when keyed. The clock will come with a wind key. The clock has been running and striking as expected, since we acquired it. So, the clock is being sold in running and striking condition at this juncture. Nice mahogany wood base that this clock is securely attached to. The Chelsea Ship's Bell Clock on wood stand is 17.5" tall, by 14" across, by 5.5" wide. The clock face is 6" across. A heavy piece, so expect the shipping cost to reflect that. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. This clock's movement has not been serviced by us since we acquired the clock. No guarantee the clock will be in operating condition, once shipped or delivered to you. The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description. As can be expected when dealing with a vintage clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, we would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it. Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 15% restocking fee to do so. So again, ask all questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the clock on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don't be shy, we are always open to reasonable suggestions! This clock is just waiting for the right collector out there to acquire and refurbish for their collection. This rare clock cosmetically appears in great condition. Also called a night clock. It does run but then stops after about 30 seconds, probably needs cleaned or maybe a repair. But I am willing to take offers. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
