 Large dial Chelsea Base and Ball solid bronze ship's bell mantel clock @ early 1920s. This is an extremely rare clock that came out of an estate recently, where it was maintained and in regular use - this clock is in excellent original as found condition. The case has been polished and lacquered at some point in the past, and looks great, although it could have it's original antique bronze finish restored if desired. The case has an amazing look, a real work of art, and very impressive at 15 1/2" tall x 15 1/2" wide x 5" deep, and weighing in at 31 pounds. No damage or missing pieces to the case. The fancy Special Grand 10" diameter dial is excellent with its original finish and signature, being signed for the retailer J.E. Caldwell, Philadelphia. Great original fancy hands. The 8 day movement is marked Chelsea and serial number 137362, which matches the serial number stamped into the wooden base of the case, and dates between 1920 to 1924. It is complete and intact with good mainsprings, running strongly and accurately with it's original lever escapement, and striking ship's bells on the hours and half hours on its original gong, but is sold without any warranty. Isaac Reed was at work in Philadelphia (Frankford District) on the NW corner of 2nd and Vine St. from 1819 - 1822. In 1823 he moved to 176 N. 2nd St and remained there until 1846. He was a Silversmith, Watchmaker and Clockmaker. This example is from the late Federal Period and exhibits the classic rectalinear lines indigenous to the Delaware Valley. The primary wood is Cherry with long leaf yellow Pine secondaries.  eBay I have the privilege of offering this rare clock today for a dear friend who is in his 90s and has been slowly liquidating his collection through me over the past several years. This clock was purchased by him directly from Sinclair Harding in the 1980s. Clock measures 13 1/2" high, 17" with handle up, 8 1/4" wide, 7" side. As far as we know it is one of the most complicated clocks Harding has made and the only one to have ever been offered for resale until now. The condition is excellent! The clock has been very well taken care of though it has never been serviced because he was afraid to have someone take it apart. (Please keep in mind that this clock needs to be serviced) The Movement is running and has kept time since I set it about 15 hours ago. Repeater works but is sluggish though it's getting better each time I push it, same with the striking. I don't believe the clock has been wound in a couple years. The entire face of the clock measuring 10" x 6.5" is solid sterling silver with Birmingham hallmarks for 1983. I am not an expert though I will describe what I know so far about the complications. It is a striking and hour repeater, phases and age of the moon, zodiac sign display wheel, 2 wind indicators, perpetual calendar, day, date and month and a seconds indicator on the top near the balance. The movement is a high grade pivoted detent chronometer. The 2-tone full dial plate is solid sterling silver. Not sure exactly what wood was used though it is very dark and exotic with gilt brass mounts and inlays. If you are a clock maker, you can probably say quite a bit more about this clock as I'm sure I'm missing something. (Condition: Pre-Owned)

The intimate couple are standing on a round green marble base, with a clock housed inside. The time shows on a nice porcelain dial, signed by Antony Bailly. The statue is made of bronze with beautiful patina from its age, signed by Louis Moreau. The complete clock stands 29" tall and the base is 11-1/2" in diameter. The movement is 8 day with half hour and hour striking. It's in good working order and complete with pendulum and winding key. Because of its size and weight, the statue and the marble base with clock will be shipped separately for their safety. The statue can be easily re-attached by 2 screw nuts. Made by the Chelsea Clock Company in the USA. "The Mariner" model is one of the most sought out Ship's Bell clocks made by Chelsea. This is a limited edition release of this model by Chelsea. Would guess from design that the clock was made sometime in the ??? (still researching). This offering by Chelsea was only a 500 limited edition run, so very rare to find one outside of Chelsea or a fine jeweler. this clock is number 65 of 500.The original this model is based upon was first issued by Chelsea in 1911This fine Ship's Bell Clock is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a high end auction house or clock shop. We have been selling items out of our home for over 35 years. We can therefore better control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the high end auction houses and Clock Shops experience.Get this for a nice discount from what you would pay at the Chelsea store website, or a fine jeweler, which are typically offering this mode at around $6,250.This nautically inspired clock is considered one of the finest ever made in this country. A true masterpiece. Has a ship's wheel styled case that then sits on a beautiful mahogany wood base. The clock has a ship's bell mechanism which strikes 1 to 4 double bells at the 12, 4 8, & 12 hours. Then at the half hour the movement strikes the double bells for the hour and one bell strike for the half hour.The movement has an 11 jeweled movement. The movement itself is made from 364 brass and gold plated precision parts The solid brass bezel is opened by the side button latch on the left and then is hinged on the right side. Bezel is securely attached and latch working as expected.The clock's face is crafted from etched/incised brass that is hand silvered, enameled and lacquered. The Ship's Wheel ring is finished using a hand-rubbed process and then lacquered to prevent tarnish. A heavy piece here, weighs around 33lbs before packing, so expect the shipping cost to reflect that.Nice brass colored lacquered case here. Ship's wheel spindles are all in place. The brass case is all there. Very minor finish loss to the brass clock case and the wood base from use/age. No dings or dents to the metal case. The glass is intact, no cracks or blisters. There is a line of some sort of residue or glue on the right back side of the mahogany case, see pic. There is a slight scratch on the bezel by the number 1. A small blemish on the bronzed metal base above the wood bottom closer to the right side.The clock comes in the bottom part of the original case, no top, and with some of the original Chelsea paperwork. The bottom of the box shows some minor wear and tear.The clock has an 8 day mechanical brass movement. The wind springs feel sound when keyed. The clock will come with a wind key. The clock has been running and striking as expected, since we acquired it. So, the clock is being sold in running and striking condition at this juncture. Nice mahogany wood base that this clock is securely attached to. The Chelsea Ship's Bell Clock on wood stand is 17.5" tall, by 14" across, by 5.5" wide. The clock face is 6" across.
