 An extraordinary & extremely rare Austrian Biedermeier style music box mantle/table clock High quality Austrian solid brass plate 30 hour wind two train silk thread suspension movement (movement restored) with integral linkage to concealed music box at base (music box restored); 2 Austrian melodies alternate each hour, triggered after hour strike (photo of chain link running from the base of the upper clock case thru bottom clock base); music box combs 100% complete; clock movement, music box & all linkage relating to the operation are fully restored;4 ¾” round porcelain face with Roman numerals (minor porcelain loss at the winding arbors); hinged metal door frame has convex glass & hooks at other end (glass chip near hinge); chimes on a steel coil gong located within the upper clock case; gong, music box & movement assemblies are mounted securely to case Masterfully made with wonderful imagination to draw the eye to 3 small pictures of famous Austrian sites; 2 decoratively carved gilded wooden columns have recessed alabaster stone accents; fluted wooden areas decorate both the clock case base& each column capitol area; carved wood 2 stage stepped crown create the clock case topper also decorated with 2 small alabaster urns, 2 small mirror areas (1mirror is a replacement); thin decorative gilded metal scroll pieces are also used; the round wooden clock case is supported in the center with a carved& gilded ornate frieze which is mounted to the clock case base; pendulum isa round lace pattern cut from thin metal & gilded.  Queen Anne walnut longcase grandfather clock @ 1700 - 1710 by the eminent maker Charles Gretton in London. This is a fantastic rare clock that came out of an estate recently, where it had been in storage for many decades. The clock is presented in original untouched condition, but is in need of case restoration to look its best. There are some loose and detached, and some missing, molding pieces, the bonnet door lock is missing, and the trunk door hinges look to have been replaced at some point a long time ago; otherwise the case is quite good. The period walnut and walnut veneered case measures 85" tall x 20" wide (at the top) x 9" deep. It is very handsome and gives off a look of refined elegance with its great proportions, end-grain moldings, blind fretwork, and pendulum viewing lenticle in the trunk door. This is a clock from the Golden Age of early British clockmaking, and this maker was a rock star of the era, having apprenticed many of the best future makers who would go on to fame, and also having served as the Master and Treasurer of The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers for many years. A similar clock by this maker recently sold for over 15,000 pounds. The signed 12" square brass dial is excellent with very good original surfaces with patina. Great original hands, with the minute hand having had an old repair. The 5 pillar movement is original to the dial with no extra holes anywhere. Movement is complete and intact, and has countwheel strike. Movement is relatively clean, and runs and strikes well, but is sold without any warranty due to shipping. With original weights, weight pulleys, pendulum, and winding key. Please see the photos attached for the complete description, and ask any questions you may have. No reserve.  eBay For sale is an 8.5” dial Chelsea pedestal presentation clock, with original surface dial and re-nickeled case. Original Chelsea sales ledger record indicates the Chelsea movement was sold by Chelsea Clock Company to American Steam Gauge & Valve Company on May 7th, 1913. I added more photos to the listing including the clock next to an iPhone for size perspective - the 8.5” dial diameter is a significant presence Technically therefore we can alternatively refer to this clock as an American Steam Gauge Clock with Chelsea movement. I have seen it listed both ways in the very few examples sold over the years.The Chelsea movement serial number 83324 can be seen in one of the included photos. The time only movement is the marine model, currently keeping accurate time well within Chelsea’s factory standard. A key is included to lock and unlock the hinged bezel. A winding key will also be included.This clock was a presentation piece for Frederick A. Ryer, who in 1911 became the purchasing agent for the Boston & Albany RR ( owned by New York Central RR).  Brass O-Scale Chesapeake & Ohio H-8 Allegheny (2-6-6-6) Locomotive – This is a fine example of the model builder’s skills thirty years ago when things were really carefully made; from D & D Mfg Company in Korea and imported by the legendary Precision Scale Co., Crown Series. A beautifully crafted scale model of the final run of these massive locomotives with road number 1659 – the last prototype delivered in the series made by Lima Locomotive Works of Lima, Ohio. The order was placed in 1947 and was delivered in December 1948. The Chesapeake & Ohio railroad, always a leader in articulated designs, bought this massive late steam-era locomotive to pull an entire train from Russell through Columbus to the Port of Toledo without changing locomotives in Columbus. The culmination of the “H” class (encompassing all of C&O’s articulated designs), the H-8 was the largest, heaviest, most powerful and most flexible in their uses whether hauling coal, freight or passenger consists. The incorporation of new steam technologies including super-heated steam, automatic stokers and locating the firebox behind the last drivers enabled the design of ever larger and more powerful locomotives. Adding the third axel to the trailing truck with larger rear wheel (43” diameter with first two at 36” diameter to create space for a booster engine) allowed for a much larger firebox plus the addition of over-fire jets improved combustion of the late run H-8s (road numbers 1645-1659). The prototype for this reproduction of #1659 was purchased in 1948, weighted a massive 1.183M pounds with tender and cost $395,000. C&O actually won a large settlement from Lima due to over-weight issues. This magnificent locomotive produced 7,498 draw-bar horsepower and regularly moved 14K tons at 45 MPH!This exceptional example is factory painted brass exhibiting many superb details and careful construction techniques including steel plate seams and boiler sheathing texture, rivets, steam and air-line detailing, casting marks, steps, railing lights, lubricators, reversing gear, Worthington cold water pump, injectors, air compressors and compressed air tanks (3), hard rockers, feed water pumps and other elements so important in great modeling. Great detail is evident in the running gear too – including the drivers with accurate spokes and counterweight outer surface, connecting rods including main, primary side rods and forward rods plus reversing gear, automatic lubricating rods are all shown in detail. Worthington open type feed water heater, near the smoke box, using exhaust steam could return about 14% of the water used from the tender.The prototype tender’s capacity was 25 tons of coal and 25,000 gals of water. This fine reproduction is well detailed including the three and four axel Buckeye trucks with clear suspension details shown, automatic stoker, reversing and running lights, electrical conduits, crisp rivets, ladders and hand rails, water tank covers (operating on this model), auger details in coal bunker with vertical support plates inside, accurate inspection access coal doors (operating on this model) from cab area including light inside the bunker, tool boxes and hangers for re-railers, water lines and steam lines. Only two prototype examples of this fine locomotive remain (at the Ford Museum and in Baltimore, MD) so to acquire such a fine example of this exceptional late-steam era locomotive is rare. This great looking design also used 67” diameter drivers providing for improved traction needed hauling loads up steep grades through the Appalachians. A powerful locomotive that hauled both coal and manifest freight and was also fast enough to occasionally be used in passenger service especially during WWII with extended troop movements.I am a collector - not a dealer - and this amazing model, which has been in our collection for over thirty years and was finally opened (purchased new 17 MAR 92) and put on display about a year ago, is being offered so that we might expand into other areas of brass locomotive collecting mainly different railway lines from the C&O.
