JAEGER LECOULTRE ATMOS MOON PHASE Cal. 540 CLOCK COMPLETE SET
JAEGER LECOULTRE ATMOS MOON PHASE Cal. 540 CLOCK COMPLETE SETAtmos caliber 540 with moon phase in a gold-plated case, this is a "New Old Stock" item from a private collector, comes with original box and matched serial number tag, manuals and an original moon phase adjustment tool included.Serial number: 706461.Condition:New Old Stock in Excellent working condition! We have the clock run for two days and it maintains excellent performance, keeping excellent time! The original dark blue box has clear signs of wear, the original foam wrap bag for the clock wrapping has been teared, please see the last picture for details. Please understand that you are buying a Atmos clock, the Atmos clocks do not keep perfect time like the modern quartz clocks.I live in Colorado, the city of Colorado Springs is 6,035 feet above sea level, and some of our most celebrated natural attractions are even higher--like Pikes Peak, at an impressive 14,115 feet above sea level. Since this clock is now tuned for time at high altitude, if the new owner lives at a lower altitude, some necessary calibration upon arrival at the destination might be required. After shipping, the Atmos clock might need some adjustment. If you move the Atmos clock from one room to the other,Please make sure to lock the balance wheel before doing any moving and adjustments. The adjustments of the liquid level may be needed after each move.Even if noted as working great, due to its age, it might need service anytime. Please understand that due to the delicate nature of these Atmos clock adjustments may be needed after each move.We have shipped a number of these fine Atmos clocks to various countries without any damage problems. The balance wheel(pendulum) will be locked carefully, and the clock packed with double boxes, ship with full coverage insurance to USA 48 States ONLY. Due to the high value and fragility of this clock, we do not offer international shipping.Interesting facts:Even though Leonardo da Vinci was able to prove that the production of a perpetual motion machine was physically impossible, it was still attempted time and again. In 1928, Neuchatel engineer Jean Leon Reuter invented the technology for a clock whose energy source was drawn from the ambient air, from the atmosphere so to speak. As there were repeated problems with the watches, the movements were manufactured by Le Coultre et Cie in Switzerland from 1933 and in 1935 the production rights for the Atmos watch were transferred to Ets. Ed. Jaeger in 1935.The technical principle of the movements built by Jaeger Le Coultre from 1936 onwards is simply captivating: a mixture of a liquid and ethyl chloride gas is contained in a hermetically sealed capsule. As the temperature rises, the mixture expands, and as the temperature falls, it contracts, causing a bellows in the pressure box on the back of the watch to move like an accordion. This movement continuously winds up the movement. In the range between 15 and 30?C, a change in temperature of just one degree Celsius is enough to provide the energy for around two days of running time. (Condition: New (Other))

Purely American Made.Franklin "Frank" Herschede was born on July 30, 1857 in Cincinnati, Ohio.In 1873, at the age of 16, he began working as an apprentice watch and clock repairman for Charles Cook.In 1877, he went into business for himself and moved to Vine and 5th Street in Cincinnati. He diversified into jewelry, watches, diamonds, etc., and in 1885, the store moved to larger quarters at the corner of Arcade and Vine.In 1885, noting the success of Walter H. Durfee, Herschede began importing movements and having cases made in a nearby cabinet shop on Front Street in Cincinnati, Ohio. Frank’s clock business expanded to the point that he purchased the cabinet shop in 1900.In 1901, Frank exhibited in the South Carolina and West Indian Exposition at Charleston, South Carolina, where he received a gold medal for his hall clocks. This was the first of several medals earned by the firm.Frank's son, Walter, graduated from high school in 1902, and began work in the cabinet shop. On December 29, 1902 the Herschede Hall Clock Company was incorporated. In that same year, Herschede began to produce his own tubes and install them in his clocks. In 1903 the Herschede Hall Clock Company factory moved from Front Street to 1011-1015 Plum Street. In 1904 the Herschede Hall Clock Company won several medals in the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904: a gold medal for the best hall clock, a gold medal for the best hall clock cases, and a silver medal for tubular chimes. In 1909, the Herschede Hall Clock Company leased the building next door at 1007-1009 Plum Street to manufacture clock movements. The first movement passed final inspection on January 10, 1911. In 1913, a third melody, “Canterbury Chimes” was added to the Whittington and Westminster chimes. The tune was composed by Charles Eisen, "a gifted American pianist," especially for Herschede. (If you have a Herschede clock with this tune and are a musician, we'd appreciate having the tune so we can add it to our clock chime tunes page in this reference library... contact us and let's talk about how to make this happen... thanks in advance. We'd also like to have a digital recording of this tune.)At the Panama-Pacific International Exposition the firm won two additional major awards: grand prize was presented to the Herschede Hall Clock Company for chime hall clocks and mantel clocks, and a gold medal was awarded for the hall clock cabinets manufactured by the company.By the early 1920's the Herschede Hall Clock Company had opened branch sales offices in New York City, then in Chicago and San Francisco. Frank Herschede died on September 15, 1922, and Walter was named president in January of 1923.In 1925, Walter began to work with Mr. Warren to develop electric movement chime clocks. By April of 1926, the Revere Clock Company came into being.By 1927 the Herschede Hall Clock Company had added a pair of smaller lines of clocks, including a clock (about 6’ in height) and a “petite” clock (generally under 7’ in height). These were produced in the same styles as the larger hall clocks.By 1929 the Herschede Hall Clock Company had some 300 employees, but the Great Depression caused a significant reduction in demand for hall clocks (and just about everything else except jobs)!By 1933 the Herschede Hall Clock Company changed its primary focus on the lower end, introducing an inexpensive line of electric clocks called “Crown Clocks”.On February 4, 1934, Walter's son, Richard Herschede, began working fulltime with his father. The Herschede Hall Clock Company ceased clockmaking during WWII, focusing its manufacturing expertise on observational instruments and optical components for the military. Subsequent to the war, clockmaking resumed, but never regained its pre-war momentum. Eventually, the firm branched out into, of all things, the manufacture of parking meters! In 1952 the Herschede Hall Clock Company began using imported Junghans movements in its non-tubular bell clocks. Then, in 1959, in the midst of extreme economic difficulties, the North Mississippi Industrial Development Association lured the Herschede Hall Clock Company to move its plant to Starkville, Mississippi, with the new factory opening in May of 1960.In 1973, the Herschede Hall Clock Company merged with Howard Furniture and Briarwood Lamps to become Arnold Industries, Inc.On September 23, 1983, Herschede announced a plan to restructure the Herschede Hall Clock division from a manufacturer of the finished clocks to a supplier of quality tubular bell movements to the industry. The firm briefly resumed production of clocks in 1989, making approximately 20 clocks between that year and 1992 under the ownership of Howard W. Klein and Robert Eggering of St. Louis, MO. The firm was then sold to R&M Imports of Waynesville, OH, which manufacturers replacement parts for existing Herschede clocks CONDITIONGood antique condition, wear and distressing commensurate with age and use, light scuffing / marking, working DIMENSIONS24 x 18.5" d x 86" hPAYMENTThe sooner you pay, the sooner you get your item. The Designers Consignment insists on receiving payment within 3 days of your winning bid or Purchase, otherwise we reserve the right to make a second chance offer to the second place bidder or re-list the item. Please let us know if you have any additional questions SHIPPING & HANDLINGWe are currently unable to ship to international US locations. Winterhalder & Hofmeier Small Desk Clock Westminster Chimes w/ Balance Wheel Run
Antique Winterhalder & Hofmeier Small Desk Clock Westminster Chimes w/ Balance Wheel Movement Runs, Strikes and Chimes Item Description Here is a great unique Winterhalder & Hofmeier Bracket Clock with Wood Case and Beveled Glass in running condition for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself!Very unique, uncommon, and rare clock example here from Winterhalder & Hofmeier. First the size, this clock is only 8.75" tall, Secondly, this is a balance wheel movement, have never seen a W&H clock that was not powered by a pendulum. This fine antique mantel clock is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a high end auction house or clock shop. We have been selling clocks out of our home for over 35 years. We are therefore better positioned to control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the high end auction houses and clock shops experience. The clock dates to the 1910 period from what we have researched online. The diminutive size would have it fall into the category of a desk clock. There is another one now online that does not have the Westminster Chimes unit that is up for $2,500 (same diminutive size, still a pendulum driven movement). Another one sold in 2002, again not with Westminster Chimes unit, for $600 per a site we utilize in researching our clock offerings. This clock is much more rare and unique than those clocks.Check out the beautiful curved top on the clock. The case is all intact, with the exception of the carving at the peak of the case. Not sure if carving like rest of case just fell off, or if there was a piece mounted to the front top of the clock at one time. Some minor finish loss to the case. The rear wood door is in place as is the latch mechanism. The red fabric is in place on the inside of the door. The 4 brass like doughnut feet are also still in place on the clock case. Show some finish loss. Beautiful mahogany case on this clock. The clock face is silver with black numbers. Some moderate loss of finish around the wind holes. The bezel is securely attached to the case by the hinge. The beveled glass in the bezel is intact, no cracking or blistering. The front door is very thick with a brass surround, securely attached to the case by the hinges. The movement looks good. The three wind springs feel sound when keyed. The movement has not been serviced or cleaned, we are selling it the way we found it. The clock will come with a wind key. We are selling this clock in running, chiming, and striking condition at this juncture, no warranty intended. There is no representation that the clock is in original condition, or will continue to be in working order. The clock has a Westminster Chime's unit. The clock chimes every 15 minutes, and then chime and strikes on the hour. This is a five gong wire unit. The Winterhalder & Hofmeier Clock stands 8.75" tall, by 6.75" across, by 5.5" (5-7/8" with door latch) wide. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Some information about the clock and Hofmeier (clocks) goes back to Winterhalder Uhrenfabrik in the Black Forest, a clock manufacturer from 1810. It was further manifested from 1850 under the new name Winterhalder & Hofmeier. In 1869 the company was renamed M. Winterhalder & Hofmeier, Friedenweiler und Schwaerzenbach, in Neustadt. From 1908 the new name was M. Winterhalder & Hofmeier GmbH. The company was part of the Black Forest clockmaker industry as its factory was located in Titisee Neustadt and surroundings and as it subscribed to high quality standards. The company existed until 1933 (A Jewish owned company put out of business by Hitler's Nazi Germany). W&H is regarded as one of the finest Victorian clockmakers of the time.As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it. Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 15% restocking fee to do so. So, please carefully review all the attached pictures, ask all the questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the item on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don't be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions! Please check out our other Timeless Tokens store listings as we are regularly adding new items. We specialize in antique and vintage artwork, books, collectibles, furniture, musical instruments, paper ephemera, marine nautical and clocks. Thanks for your business. (B20027). 1930s Art Deco clock by Herman Miller actually designed by *Gilbert Rohde
eBay 1930's Art Deco Clock made by Herman Miller that was actually designed by *Gilbert Rohde*Gilbert Rohde (1894-1944) was one of the most notable figures in the early history of modern design in America. "His goal was to convert Americans to an appreciation and understanding of modernist design," as quoted by Phyllis Ross, the author of his biography published in March 2009 by the Yale University Press.Beginning in 1932, and continuing up to his death in 1944, the works of Gilbert Rohde was to reflect American Steamline Moderne design, as well as current trends in European art and design, including French moderne, the International Design style associated with the Bauhaus, and later, Surrealism. Much of his work was featured at several major fairs of the 1930s, including the Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago in 1933 and 1934, and in the Decorative Arts Pavilion at San Francisco's 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. The clock does not work and will need to be repaired. PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICE HISTORY: In 1854, Waterbury, Connecticut based brass manufacturer Benedict & Burnham created Waterbury Clock Company to manufacture clocks using brass wheels and gears. Waterbury Clock Company was legally incorporated on March 27, 1857, as an independent business with $60,000 in capital. The American clock industry, with scores of companies located in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, was producing millions of clocks, earning the region the nickname, "Switzerland of America". The Waterbury Clock Company was one of the largest producers for both domestic sales and export, primarily to Europe. Today its successor, Timex Group USA, Inc. is the only remaining watch company in the region. Originally, the company produced clocks as less expensive alternatives to the high-end European counterparts of the time. In 1887 the company began experimenting with its product line, leading to the creation of the large Jumbo pocket watch, invented by Archibald Bannatyne and named after the famous P. T. Barnum elephant. The Jumbo was put on the market in New York City on a trial basis, catching the attention of Robert H. Ingersoll, a salesman and eventual marketing pioneer. During the turn of the century, Waterbury Clock Company produced millions of pocket watches for the newly created partnership of Robert and his brother Charles, Robert H. Ingersoll & Bro., under their own brand name. In 1896, Ingersoll introduced the Ingersoll Yankee, a dollar pocket watch supplied by Waterbury Clock Company. These watches gained such great popularity that they became known as "the watch that made the dollar famous."In 1877, a new prototype was introduced to Benedict and Burnham for an inexpensive pocket watch made of 58 parts, mostly made of punched sheet brass. They immediately set aside an unused portion of their machine shop and began producing the Long Wind at a rate of 200 per day by 1878. The department quickly outgrew its space in the plant, so with a capital of $400,000 Waterbury Clock's sister company Waterbury Watch Company was incorporated by Benedict & Burnham in 1880 to manufacture and sell inexpensive watches and other timepieces. Waterbury Watch started out very successfully in its early days, employing hundreds of women for their "slender fingers" and "delicate manipulation," having become the largest volume producer of watches in the world by 1888.Due to poor sales techniques, where jobbers and salesmen gave away much of the Waterbury Watch products as loss leaders with little regard to the company's future, thereby cheapening the products' perceived value, Waterbury Watch quickly fell into bankruptcy. In a last attempt to salvage the company, Waterbury Watch began to produce higher-end watch models which only created more demand on a workforce unable to keep up with the complexity of the new watches using several hundred parts. The company was finally reorganized as the New England Watch Company in 1898 as its London sales office was placed into liquidation. The company continued to focus on high-priced watch models and eventually fell into receivership, discontinuing business in July 1912. Robert H. Ingersoll & Bro. bought the Waterbury plant and began manufacturing Ingersoll Watches there in 1914. With the American entry into World War I there were new demands for timepiece design. Artillery gunners needed an easy way to calculate and read time while still being able to work the guns. The Waterbury Clock Company met this need by modifying the small Ingersoll ladies' Midget pocket watch to become military-issue wristwatches — lugs were added for a canvas strap, the crown was repositioned to 3 o'clock, hands and numbers were made luminescent for nighttime readability, thus making one of the first wrist watches. In 1922, Waterbury Clock Company purchased the Robert H. Ingersoll & Bro. company for $1,500,000, which had gone bankrupt the previous year due to the post-war recession, thereby inheriting all of Ingersoll's and Waterbury Watch's assets and facilities. Unable to deliver on Ingersoll's guarantee of quality in Europe due to the Great Depression, Waterbury Clock sold the London-based Ingersoll, Ltd. to its Board of Directors in 1930, making it a wholly British-owned enterprise. The "powerful Ingersoll brand name" was continued in the United States by Waterbury Clock into the 1950s. No longer part of Waterbury Clock Company, Ingersoll Ltd. continued to produce the Ingersoll watch brand independently for the European and other international markets. Following the Great Depression and a period of hardship for the company, Waterbury Clock Company regained its identity in the consumer market. In 1930, a license agreement was reached with Walt Disney, resulting in the production of the famous Mickey Mouse watches and clocks under the Ingersoll brand name. The new Mickey Mouse timepieces were introduced to the public at the Chicago World's Fair in June 1933 and quickly became the company's first million-dollar line, saving it from financial disaster. In 1940, Thomas Olsen (owner and operator of Fred. Olsen Shipping Co.) and Joakim Lehmkuhl fled Norway with their families because of the Nazi invasion Eventually they came to the United States seeking investments to assist in the war effort. In 1941, Olsen and Lehmkuhl purchased controlling interest in Waterbury Clock Company, with Thomas Olsen becoming Chairman. Though the company had fallen on hard times during the Great Depression it still had the manufacturing capability to make large numbers of timing devices. Mr. Lehmkuhl, who had studied business and engineering at Harvard and MIT, was appointed President by Olsen and, under his direction, the company became the largest producer of fuse timers for precision defense products in the United States. A new concrete plant was built in nearby Middlebury, Connecticut in 88 days in 1942 for the high-volume production of precision timers. Important and Classic Marianne Brandt Bauhaus Clock, All Original and Working
This is the third group of items I’m listing from my vintage clock and transistor radio collections. I’ll also be listing other vintage items as well. If you’re interested in any of the items in this batch, or similar ones, please check back regularly. You may find something you’d like to bid on. Up for grabs is an excellent example of one of the most famous designs to come out of the renowned Bauhaus school of art and design. The school operated from 1919 to 1933 and became legendary for its approach to design, which attempted to unify individual artistic vision and the principles of mass production, with an emphasis on function. The wonder of the Bauhaus has filled many books and certainly can’t be done justice in this description. This chromium plated black and white painted metal clock, model #4477, is a masterpiece of simplicity and clarity. It was designed by Marianne Brandt, one of the only women to be accepted into this man’s club, because she and her work were too important to be left out. On the square, black, beveled face of the clock, two oblong hands inch past a dozen simple, painted white bars to mark the time. The hands’ pivot point is a white circle that is perfectly echoed by a dark one just below it, which accepts the key to wind the clock. Most unusually, the clock face is not under a traditional glass cover but left unprotected. It’s the consummate example of an object that is a pure expression of its function. The clock, manufactured by Ruppelwerk GMBH in Germany, measures 6w (including the base) x 5h x 1.5d inches (Brandt designed another version that is slightly bigger and deeper). It has its original 8-day key wind mechanical movement (the key is included), along with a micro adjustment feature if it runs fast or slow. The clock still runs well. The condition is …well, we should all look so good when we’re 100. There are some areas that could most likely be polished, but I’m choosing to leave it as is. The hands have inevitably started to yellow from being exposed to the air and light. I suppose they could be repainted, but I’ve never been tempted to “freshen it up.” Please look closely at all the photos and feel free to message me with any questions. Also, the shipping's on me within the U.S. I will ship internationally if the buyer pays the shipping. I don’t charge for any extras like packing or “handling” costs. Thanks for looking. (Condition: Pre-Owned)

Lawson 304 Zephyr Desk Clock. 1930's California Streamline Moderne Design
This Lawson Zephyr clock is in working condition and appears to be an unaltered original. It has some surface scratches from routine cleaning over its 85 year life. Its service history is unknown but the assembly screws on the back show minimal signs of wear. The inside mechanism appears clean. In overall good condition with minimal surface blemishes. I have not attempted to polish or clean it with any liquids or abrasives for fear of damaging the patina, preferring to let the aging speak for itself. A true icon of California Streamline industrial design, the Lawson Zephyr model 304-P40 was designed in the 1930s and manufactured by Lawson at various factories in Southern California from the late 1930s onwards. The example listed here bears the manufacturer plaque showing 'Pasadena' which dates this unit between 1940-1942. With a large fan base, the Lawson Zephyr is an iconic piece of functional artwork and resonates with collectors around the world. They can be found in art galleries, museum collections, and have appeared in large auction houses. The Lawson Zephyr clock emerged in the 1930s from Lawson Time, Inc., a company founded by Lindley S. and Harold B. Lawson in Los Angeles in 1933. Initially introduced as the "Mayfair" in 1937, it was rebranded as the "Zephyr" by 1938, possibly inspired by the sleek, record-setting Burlington Zephyr train. The clock's distinctive low, horizontal form, curving silhouette, and use of contrasting metals like brass and copper reflected the era's fascination with speed and modernity, while its innovative digital display--featuring rotating wheels--promised "exact time at a glance." Though long attributed to German designer Kem Weber, a 1938 Lawson catalog credits the design to Paul Feher and George Adomatis, two lesser-known but talented designers who shaped the company's early aesthetic. Crafted in Los Angeles, the Zephyr catered to an affluent clientele, blending cutting-edge technology with Art Deco elegance, and remains a celebrated artifact of 1930s California design.
