Purely American Made.Franklin "Frank" Herschede was born on July 30, 1857 in Cincinnati, Ohio.In 1873, at the age of 16, he began working as an apprentice watch and clock repairman for Charles Cook.In 1877, he went into business for himself and moved to Vine and 5th Street in Cincinnati. He diversified into jewelry, watches, diamonds, etc., and in 1885, the store moved to larger quarters at the corner of Arcade and Vine.In 1885, noting the success of Walter H. Durfee, Herschede began importing movements and having cases made in a nearby cabinet shop on Front Street in Cincinnati, Ohio. Frank’s clock business expanded to the point that he purchased the cabinet shop in 1900.In 1901, Frank exhibited in the South Carolina and West Indian Exposition at Charleston, South Carolina, where he received a gold medal for his hall clocks. This was the first of several medals earned by the firm.Frank's son, Walter, graduated from high school in 1902, and began work in the cabinet shop. On December 29, 1902 the Herschede Hall Clock Company was incorporated. In that same year, Herschede began to produce his own tubes and install them in his clocks. In 1903 the Herschede Hall Clock Company factory moved from Front Street to 1011-1015 Plum Street. In 1904 the Herschede Hall Clock Company won several medals in the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904: a gold medal for the best hall clock, a gold medal for the best hall clock cases, and a silver medal for tubular chimes. In 1909, the Herschede Hall Clock Company leased the building next door at 1007-1009 Plum Street to manufacture clock movements. The first movement passed final inspection on January 10, 1911. In 1913, a third melody, “Canterbury Chimes” was added to the Whittington and Westminster chimes. The tune was composed by Charles Eisen, "a gifted American pianist," especially for Herschede. (If you have a Herschede clock with this tune and are a musician, we'd appreciate having the tune so we can add it to our clock chime tunes page in this reference library... contact us and let's talk about how to make this happen... thanks in advance. We'd also like to have a digital recording of this tune.)At the Panama-Pacific International Exposition the firm won two additional major awards: grand prize was presented to the Herschede Hall Clock Company for chime hall clocks and mantel clocks, and a gold medal was awarded for the hall clock cabinets manufactured by the company.By the early 1920's the Herschede Hall Clock Company had opened branch sales offices in New York City, then in Chicago and San Francisco. Frank Herschede died on September 15, 1922, and Walter was named president in January of 1923.In 1925, Walter began to work with Mr. Warren to develop electric movement chime clocks. By April of 1926, the Revere Clock Company came into being.By 1927 the Herschede Hall Clock Company had added a pair of smaller lines of clocks, including a clock (about 6’ in height) and a “petite” clock (generally under 7’ in height). These were produced in the same styles as the larger hall clocks.By 1929 the Herschede Hall Clock Company had some 300 employees, but the Great Depression caused a significant reduction in demand for hall clocks (and just about everything else except jobs)!By 1933 the Herschede Hall Clock Company changed its primary focus on the lower end, introducing an inexpensive line of electric clocks called “Crown Clocks”.On February 4, 1934, Walter's son, Richard Herschede, began working fulltime with his father. The Herschede Hall Clock Company ceased clockmaking during WWII, focusing its manufacturing expertise on observational instruments and optical components for the military. Subsequent to the war, clockmaking resumed, but never regained its pre-war momentum. Eventually, the firm branched out into, of all things, the manufacture of parking meters! In 1952 the Herschede Hall Clock Company began using imported Junghans movements in its non-tubular bell clocks. Then, in 1959, in the midst of extreme economic difficulties, the North Mississippi Industrial Development Association lured the Herschede Hall Clock Company to move its plant to Starkville, Mississippi, with the new factory opening in May of 1960.In 1973, the Herschede Hall Clock Company merged with Howard Furniture and Briarwood Lamps to become Arnold Industries, Inc.On September 23, 1983, Herschede announced a plan to restructure the Herschede Hall Clock division from a manufacturer of the finished clocks to a supplier of quality tubular bell movements to the industry. The firm briefly resumed production of clocks in 1989, making approximately 20 clocks between that year and 1992 under the ownership of Howard W. Klein and Robert Eggering of St. Louis, MO. The firm was then sold to R&M Imports of Waynesville, OH, which manufacturers replacement parts for existing Herschede clocks CONDITIONGood antique condition, wear and distressing commensurate with age and use, light scuffing / marking, working DIMENSIONS24 x 18.5" d x 86" hPAYMENTThe sooner you pay, the sooner you get your item. The Designers Consignment insists on receiving payment within 3 days of your winning bid or Purchase, otherwise we reserve the right to make a second chance offer to the second place bidder or re-list the item. Please let us know if you have any additional questions SHIPPING & HANDLINGWe are currently unable to ship to international US locations. Bulova Accutron 214 TE-11 24 Hour Military Cockpit Panel Clock Service Restored

Sold on eBay March 23rd, 2024

Bulova Accutron 214 TE-11 24 Hour Military Cockpit Panel Clock Service Restored

Fully Serviced! 1973 (N3) USA made TE-11 24 Hour Dial Military Cockpit Panel Clock. This is Numbers Matching case back (N3), dial (11/3), and pillar plate (N3 214H). Correct 1973 dated 24 hour dial and hand set (with the correct Cone style Sweep Second Hand instead of the "Fils" Sweep that was used on the earlier models of this clock). 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" x 1/2" deep (plus contact points). I installed this in table top "menu holder" with a friction fit so that it can be removed easily. It is also easy to change the time and battery. I also added a portion of a "famous" Accutron ad. It is mounted with "photo mount glue for easy removal if you prefer to install a different add.The display is approx. 6 1/2" h x 5" w.InFamous. Iconic. Historic. ThE Most Important Timepiece in History. ThE Accutron 214. NOTHING else compares. LONG before Omega hitched a ride... on the coattails of Accutron... This was in Space. In Satellites. On Astronaut's wrists. In Rockets. Then Omega bought a ticket to ride... Back Set! Electro Magnetic Tuning Fork! The first successful, and BEST, Electronic Timepiece! The only timepiece that MUST be in every Watch Lovers collection! The Caliber 214 Tuning Fork movement. Thoroughly cleaned inside and out. Original crystal (new gaskets installed). Disassembled the case and bezel to deep clean lubricate reset "Rare" "Flat Top" Pillar Plate.. typical in the TE Clocks. Fully disassembled the movement and module for cleaning lubrication regulation and "disconnected" the leads so that it's not sending pulses to the contacts... so that it can be used as a desk clock. This is adjusted the conventional way that Accutrons are set... from the back set crown. Disassembled, cleaned and oiled all of the friction points and regulated the timing to run properly on the modern readily available and inexpensive 1.55v 387S battery (or 394 if you already have the insulator). This has been adjusted to run "Dead on balls accurate," as Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny) would say... within the original Bulova Spec's for the time of issue. No need for any "tricks" or add ons that might upset the Coil Assembly. "Why fix it if it ain't broken?" No need for changes to the Electronics. Fully serviced mechanicals. DEEP cleaned! Friction points and setting crown oiled! New "Clark" 735 & 736 Battery Hatch and Case Back Gaskets installed. Fully disassembled and cleaned the case including the battery cover and back set crown. This is the original and correct case back, bezel, hands, and finishes. I disassembled the caseback elements and deep cleaned all of it, and greased the adjustment crown. As it SHOULD be! No need to alter and stress the electronics on this beauty... thereby devaluing it! Why "coat" the Coils... adding stress and trapping the windings and limiting movement? 70% of the Coil issues are on the Battery side (due to owners using incorrect batteries back in the day)... NOT the Component side! Stop wasting time over-bidding Frankensteined FAKES, from the U.K., when you can have the genuine article. Why buy an over "engineered" parts bin mess from a part-time "hobbyist" who throws together a multitude of parts? What value does that have now... much less in the future?! It'll be nothing more than what it is... an altered mess! The last picture shows a small portion of my workshop and some of my watches and tools that I use. NONE of these items are included in this listing! I use the Mobius products that were specified by Bulova and I install new gaskets. I work on these the Old School way. I am not a Part Time Hobbyist doing this after my day job... and I see no reason to alter these... it only decreases their value. The goal is to get these right... so that we can enjoy and preserve these Historic works of Horology Engineering Art I send these out double boxed to protect them, with a multi page Instruction Set, an extra battery, insured, with Signature Confirmation Service... and I hand deliver them to USPS for receipt in hand so that we are BOTH covered! I work on these the Old School way. I do these RIGHT because I LOVE them. If you want cheap, badly thrown together FAKE CRAP at a "low" price point... I'm NOT "your guy!" There are plenty of people out there destroying classic Accutrons... would you accept this behavior for cigars, cars, watches, etc.?! SAVE the 214! Grab this NOW... before it's too late! Be the ONLY one on YOUR block! (Condition: Pre-Owned)

FULLY RESTORED GAZO SAN MARCOS TRIPLE CHIME WALL CLOCK

Sold on eBay June 7th, 2024

FULLY RESTORED GAZO SAN MARCOS TRIPLE CHIME WALL CLOCK

FULLY RESTORED GAZO SAN MARCOS TRIPLE CHIME WALL CLOCK For your consideration is an impressive Gazo San Marcos triple chime wall clock. I encourage you to look up the history of the Gazo family, they made very high-quality clocks in very limited numbers. I bought the clock from the family of the original owners and serviced the movement in my shop. After servicing, the clock ran for 11 days before the springs fully wound down. The movement is stamped with a date of manufacture of June 1980 and the back tag shows that the clock was sold by Argo Clocks of Santa Clara, CA on December 20, 1980. Triple Chime means that the clock will play your choice of Westminster, Whittington, or St. Michael. There is a selector switch at the top of the dial to make the selection. The case is solid oak, measuring 38 inches tall by 13.5 inches wind and 9.5 inches deep. Please look carefully at the 16 attached pictures as they provide a large amount of the description of this fine timepiece. I would also encourage you to check recent eBay sales for this Gazo model, it is how I determined the asking price and, in my opinion, this clock is superior because of the movement being serviced. GAZO FAMILY CLOCKS HISTORY. Around 1973, Lou and Cleo Gazo, along with their children Ed and Renee, took the family hobby to the next level and started the Gazo Family Clock Factory. The idea was to build clocks based on the highly carved European clocks that they had been importing and restoring. Gazo clocks were mainly sold by clock shops like The ClockPeace, a chain of clock stores with locations in Carmel, San Francisco, and La Jolla, California. Gazo also ran two stores in Scottsdale, AZ and Beverly Hills. As you can see by the store locations, Gazo clocks were high-end and purchased by the most discerning buyers. Lou Gazo retired in 1982 and Ed Gazo became president of the company. Gazo Clocks continued to operate until 1989 when they finally ceased operations. Gazo clocks are still highly sought after today for the highly carved and well-built cases. PAYMENT AND SHIPPING. People deserve to be treated fairly and to expect that their transaction will be handled as if the business was being done face to face. Read my feedback and you can see that I live by these words. I know that the shipping cost seems high but this is an item of substantial value so eBay requires that it be sent out fully insured and with signature confirmation. There are also substantial costs in building a box strong enough to make sure that the clock arrives in the same condition that it left in and the fact that the box will weigh over 50 lbs. Check my feedback, I am an expert in proper packing. Due to the vibration of shipping, no guarantee can be given but this item is covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee program. Also, I pride myself in excellent preparation for shipment and can help via email or by phone in getting the clock set up. Clock will be shipped by UPS so I cannot ship to PO boxes. Thank you for looking at my auction. RECENT CUSTOMER FEEDBACK This seller practices outstanding communication! The 1898 Seth Thomas "Larkin" mantle clock was beautifully and perfectly restored. After an argument with his second wife, Eva, Elmer shot her in the head with his pistol in the kitchen of their home. Stennes called the Weymouth police and told them what he had done. He was arrested in his home and later released on $25,000 bond. While free on bond, Stennes continued to make clocks. He signed the clocks made during this period with the initials "O.O.B." This was to signify that the clock was made while he was out on bond. During his trial, Stennes pleaded not guilty to murder but admitted guilt to manslaughter. He was sentenced to eight to ten years in prison for this crime. This was to be served at the Massachusetts Correctional Institute at Plymouth (M.C.I.P.) He was incarcerated at M.C.I.P. in October of 1969. Stennes was well-connected politically. Soon, he was put in charge of the woodworking shop. The clocks made during this period were marked M.C. I. P. In less than four years, Stennes was paroled on January 12, 1973. In December of that year, he married Phyllis Means on the 15th. Almost two years later, on October 4, 1975, the couple was shot multiple times while they were sleeping in their bedroom. Two men broke into their house. Elmer was shot five times and killed. Phyllis was shot seven times and survived by rolling off the bed and playing dead on the floor. Phyllis later accused her 24-year-old stepson Elliot of being one of the shooters. She had retold the story to people I knew that she recognized his voice when he said, "This is for my mom." While in court, Elliot had five witnesses testify that they were together in a bar in Franconia, New Hampshire, at the time of the shooting. As a result, the charges against him were dropped. This case has never been solved. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
