Bardon Clichy Master Wall Clock Konigsberg Germany Seal 1923 Pendulum Battery
HistoryVery little made it thru the WWII attacks on Konigsberg, Germany. First the shelling from the Royal Air Force inn August of 1944 and then by Soviet shelling in April of 1945. This one of a kind, Master Bardon clock, with a Konigsberg Seewarte seal somehow survived. Whether it was sheltered in the underground German bunkers or in the partial remains of the Konigsberg Observatory it did survive. The Observatory, a semi-circular two story research and observation facility with a brick vault (considered a regional architectural monument) is related to the clock via the Seewarte engraving on the clock seal."Seewarte" loosely translates as Naval Observatory or Oceanic Observatory or it could also be referring to the Atlantic Meteor voyage which mapped the ocean floor with the first sonic equipment and included the Konigsberg area in 1925-1927. The seal on this clock is also engraved Conigsberg, as it was first spelled for a period following the locations inception in 1843 as a mere Prussian settlement called Twangste.A piece of history from a location rich in history. Hitler had envisioned Konigsberg as a museum for everything the Germans had found in Russia Following the end of WWII and the Potsdam Agreement, Konigsberg, Germany became part of the Soviet Union (now Russia) and has remained so ever since. The Soviet Union renamed Konigsberg to Koliningrad. Today Konigsberg is of world interest as a Russian held area that is separated from the rest of Russia by two NATO countries. The situation with Ukraine makes this Russian held area of interest. Russia is most likely where this clock was purchased.Otto Pratje worked at the Konigsberg University with his chief study the geology of sea beds and he participated in the Meteor Atlantic expedition 1925-1926 eminating from Konigsberg. In 1937 he was appointed to establish and direct marine geological section of the Deutshe Seewarte at Hamburg. Both seafaring ventures produced official topographic and administrative maps of Germanys waters. Many dead underwater volcano's rising 1000 ft high in the ocean were identified for the first time with their 1st generation sonar equipment.Clock MechanicsThis Bardon Master clock appears to be one of a kind. Back is marble. Hangs at 52-1/2" long and 12" wide and 7 " deep. This is a battery run master clock with pendulum. Most likely from the Observatory in Koliningrad Konigsberg per the Seewarte seal on the front. Clocks by Bardon, Brillie and Vaucanson all embody similar principles. The coil is in the base. Extremely rare. Made in Clichy, France. Located at Etablissments bardon at the Societe Anonyme de Construction Electrique et Mechanique during the production years 1920-1925. Bardon hanging battery electromagnetic clock with oak case Bardon, Clichy. Charles Edouard GuillaumeThe Nobel Prize in Physics 1920 Precise measurement plays an important role in science. To provide a basis for precise measurements, the metric system and a German legal meter were instituted to define lengths. However, different materials expand differently when temperatures change, which limits the ability to make very precise measurements. In 1896 Charles-Edouard Guillaume succeeded in finding an alloy of nickel and steel that registered almost no change in length and volume as a result of temperature changes. The invar nickel-steel alloy had a significant effect on scientific instruments and incandescent light bulbs and was used in this clock. If you need this item shipped, that would be undertaken on your end. Your shipper would need to pack item and pick it up. If you are willing to make those arrangements it is an option for shipping. (Condition: Pre-Owned)

BAIRD ADVERTISING CLOCK FOR NEW YORK CLOTHING HOUSE - 1891-1895
BAIRD ADVERTISING CLOCK THIS CLOCK ADVERTISES: NEW YORK CLOTHING HOUSE102 -104 E. BALTO. ST. BALTIMOREONE BETWEEN 1891 and 1895 E.P. Baird moved his clock company to Plattsburgh, NY in late 1890 or early 1891. In 1895 his company went bankrupt, with a sheriffs sale of his factory in very early 1896. Clocks with this case style were only made in the Plattsburgh, NY factory.Up for auction is early 1890's Baird advertising clock for the New York Clothing House in Baltimore, MD. I bought this out of an estate sale. I am no Baird expert but to my eyes the finish appear to be original paint if a bit smokey. Nevertheless, please use your own judgement in making a determination on originality. The movement is the standard Seth Thomas that was used in the vast majority of these clocks. This clock is for one of at least fourteen different clothing houses/stores that advertised on Baird clocks. Because they are for smaller establishments, they number of clocks order by any of these stores is relatively low making most of them fairly uncommon to see oor come up for sale. Another copy of this clock is shown in Jerry Maltz's excellent book on Baird clocks on pages 98-99. The clock is currently on the wall and running. Like all clocks of this age, I can't promise that after shipping it won't need adjustment but it does currently run for a complete week. The original pendulum and a key are included SHIPPING: IS FREE in the USA. For outside the USA, my shipping costs are to get it to EBAY'S Global Shipping Network. You take it from there. (I know it says local pickup only but that is the only choice I had to include the shipping price in the item's cost).Thank you for looking at my auction. (Condition: Pre-Owned)

This clock has a wood removable backing which gives access to the workings of the clock. The front face of clock is in roman numerials. The face has wear conducive to use and age. The bottom glass window opens and is where the pendulum shows and also shows Waterbury Clock Company Paper Listing. Sold As Is! Excellent item! COMPLETE! MEASURES: 19 1/2" x 14 1/2" x 4". PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICE HISTORY: In 1854, Waterbury, Connecticut based brass manufacturer Benedict & Burnham created Waterbury Clock Company to manufacture clocks using brass wheels and gears. Waterbury Clock Company was legally incorporated on March 27, 1857, as an independent business with $60,000 in capital. The American clock industry, with scores of companies located in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, was producing millions of clocks, earning the region the nickname, "Switzerland of America". The Waterbury Clock Company was one of the largest producers for both domestic sales and export, primarily to Europe. Today its successor, Timex Group USA, Inc. is the only remaining watch company in the region. Originally, the company produced clocks as less expensive alternatives to the high-end European counterparts of the time. In 1887 the company began experimenting with its product line, leading to the creation of the large Jumbo pocket watch, invented by Archibald Bannatyne and named after the famous P. T. Barnum elephant. The Jumbo was put on the market in New York City on a trial basis, catching the attention of Robert H. Ingersoll, a salesman and eventual marketing pioneer. During the turn of the century, Waterbury Clock Company produced millions of pocket watches for the newly created partnership of Robert and his brother Charles, Robert H. Ingersoll & Bro., under their own brand name. In 1896, Ingersoll introduced the Ingersoll Yankee, a dollar pocket watch supplied by Waterbury Clock Company. These watches gained such great popularity that they became known as "the watch that made the dollar famous."In 1877, a new prototype was introduced to Benedict and Burnham for an inexpensive pocket watch made of 58 parts, mostly made of punched sheet brass. They immediately set aside an unused portion of their machine shop and began producing the Long Wind at a rate of 200 per day by 1878. The department quickly outgrew its space in the plant, so with a capital of $400,000 Waterbury Clock's sister company Waterbury Watch Company was incorporated by Benedict & Burnham in 1880 to manufacture and sell inexpensive watches and other timepieces. Waterbury Watch started out very successfully in its early days, employing hundreds of women for their "slender fingers" and "delicate manipulation," having become the largest volume producer of watches in the world by 1888.Due to poor sales techniques, where jobbers and salesmen gave away much of the Waterbury Watch products as loss leaders with little regard to the company's future, thereby cheapening the products' perceived value, Waterbury Watch quickly fell into bankruptcy. In a last attempt to salvage the company, Waterbury Watch began to produce higher-end watch models which only created more demand on a workforce unable to keep up with the complexity of the new watches using several hundred parts. The company was finally reorganized as the New England Watch Company in 1898 as its London sales office was placed into liquidation. The company continued to focus on high-priced watch models and eventually fell into receivership, discontinuing business in July 1912. Robert H. Ingersoll & Bro. bought the Waterbury plant and began manufacturing Ingersoll Watches there in 1914. With the American entry into World War I there were new demands for timepiece design. Artillery gunners needed an easy way to calculate and read time while still being able to work the guns. The Waterbury Clock Company met this need by modifying the small Ingersoll ladies' Midget pocket watch to become military-issue wristwatches — lugs were added for a canvas strap, the crown was repositioned to 3 o'clock, hands and numbers were made luminescent for nighttime readability, thus making one of the first wrist watches. In 1922, Waterbury Clock Company purchased the Robert H. Ingersoll & Bro. company for $1,500,000, which had gone bankrupt the previous year due to the post-war recession, thereby inheriting all of Ingersoll's and Waterbury Watch's assets and facilities. Unable to deliver on Ingersoll's guarantee of quality in Europe due to the Great Depression, Waterbury Clock sold the London-based Ingersoll, Ltd. to its Board of Directors in 1930, making it a wholly British-owned enterprise. The "powerful Ingersoll brand name" was continued in the United States by Waterbury Clock into the 1950s. No longer part of Waterbury Clock Company, Ingersoll Ltd. continued to produce the Ingersoll watch brand independently for the European and other international markets. Following the Great Depression and a period of hardship for the company, Waterbury Clock Company regained its identity in the consumer market. In 1930, a license agreement was reached with Walt Disney, resulting in the production of the famous Mickey Mouse watches and clocks under the Ingersoll brand name. The new Mickey Mouse timepieces were introduced to the public at the Chicago World's Fair in June 1933 and quickly became the company's first million-dollar line, saving it from financial disaster. In 1940, Thomas Olsen (owner and operator of Fred. Olsen Shipping Co.) and Joakim Lehmkuhl fled Norway with their families because of the Nazi invasion Eventually they came to the United States seeking investments to assist in the war effort. In 1941, Olsen and Lehmkuhl purchased controlling interest in Waterbury Clock Company, with Thomas Olsen becoming Chairman. Though the company had fallen on hard times during the Great Depression it still had the manufacturing capability to make large numbers of timing devices. Mr. Lehmkuhl, who had studied business and engineering at Harvard and MIT, was appointed President by Olsen and, under his direction, the company became the largest producer of fuse timers for precision defense products in the United States. A new concrete plant was built in nearby Middlebury, Connecticut in 88 days in 1942 for the high-volume production of precision timers. In August 1943, the Army-Navy "E" Award for excellence was awarded by the United States Under-Secretary of War to Waterbury Clock Company for the "Anglo-American fuse". As a result of this success shareholders in the following December voted to rename the company to United States Time Corporation.

Ingraham Spanish American War Commemorative "Gen. Lee" Clock, 8 Day T&S, Running
This is an antique Ingraham shelf or mantle clock, one of a series of Spanish American War commemorative clocks, featuring Gen. Fitzhugh Lee, 8 day T&S. Ingraham Spanish American War Commemorative "Gen. Lee" Clock, 8 Day T&S, Running Ingraham Spanish American War Commemorative "Gen. Lee" Clock, 8 Day T&S, Running Click images to enlarge Description Heritage Matters INGRAHAM "LEE" MODEL SHELF or MANTLE CLOCK OAK CASE 8 DAY T&S MOVEMENT CIRCA LATE 1800s This is a original antique Ingraham mantle or shelf clock in an oak case. It is the "Lee" Model in the series of commemorative clocks celebrating the U.S. victory in the Spanish American War, which seems to be somewhat scarce. This model usually sells between $300 and $400 in good running condition. Fitzhugh Lee was an 1856 graduate of West Point, the grandson of Revolutionary War General "Light Horse Harry" Lee, the son of U.S. (and C.S.) Navy Captain Sydney Smith Lee, and nephew of U.S. Lt. Col. and Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Fitzhugh distinguished himself as a cavalryman, rising to the rank of Major General in the Confederate Army. He served as governor of Virginia from 1886-1890, and was appointed Consul General in Havana, Cuba, a post he served from 1896 until the war broke out in 1898. He then served as a Major General of U.S. Volunteers in that war, and afterward transferred over to the (regular) U.S. Army as a Brigadier General until his retirement in 1901. He died in 1905. Virtually everything about this cock is original. When I got it, the hands were missing, but I found a set of period Ingraham-type hands for it. The glass, "flying" eagle pendulum, and finish are original, and it even retains its original paper label on the reverse. The face shows wear and has somewhat darkened with age. The only thing not original is the nut holding the hands on! The movement has been cleaned and lubricated, and is currently running and striking correctly. It is approximately 23 X 14.5 X 5 inches. Please note that I sell all mechanical and electrical items in AS-IS condition, as items this old can easily get out of adjustment in shipping. Even then, however, you can still return the clock if you are not satisfied, for any reason, for a refund of your purchase price only. You are responsible for shipping. NEW HAVEN WESTMINSTER CHIME BRACKET CLOCK WITH PATENTED WILLCOCK CHIME MOVEMENTS
NEW HAVEN WESTMINSTER CHIME BRACKET CLOCK WITH PATENTED WILLCOCK CHIME MOVEMENTS Offered for sale is a New Haven Westminster Chime bracket clock. This clock is Chime Clock No. 5 and it can be found in Ly’s New Haven book on page 97. It is item 348 and gives 1900 at the date of manufacture. The clock plays the Westminster chime on four tuned Cathedral Gongs and then strikes out the hours on a larger fifth gong. There is a video attaches that allows you to hear the clock chime and strike. The clock measures 22.5 inches high and 12.25 inches wide. These clocks are highly sought after because they have the Stephen Willcock Patented 1896 Chime Mechanism. This is a two-movement set up similar to the Seth Thomas Sonora Chime movement. I have an eight-page article that provides great detail into these clocks or you can google Willcock and find them for yourselves. The clock runs, strikes and chimes like it should and ran for a full seven days. It appears that the time and strike movement has been recently serviced and the chime movement functions properly. There is quite a following for these clocks. I bought out the collection and tools of a prominent repairman who passed away. I brought home a truckload of material that includes clocks, clock parts and tools. All of the tools and parts will be put up for sale as time permits. If you are in need of a specific item, please let me know. I would also encourage you to list me as a Favorite Seller so that you can see what is being posted for sale. My goal is for you to have 100% satisfaction with your purchase. If there are any issues, let me know and I will do my best to make it right. Shipping with be $48 via fully insured UPS or FedEx. I am also willing to combine shipping for all items that sell on the same day. You can either wait for an adjusted invoice or you can simply pay the shipping and I will calculate and send your refund. Thank you for looking at my auction. CUSTOMER FEEDBACK Received clock today. Packaged great. Beautiful clock just as described. Ticking away on my mantle. Great communication with seller. Thanks, would definitely buy again. The clock arrived 2 days early. Would do business again!
