Antique 1860’s French Movement Mantle Clock sold under a Private Label Rights
Antique 1860’s French movement mantle shelf clock sold under a Private Label Rights “Haddock Lincoln & Foss ”CONDITION: Excellent! It is in great condition. It runs well. There are traces of minor chipping around the right key hole. Please see the detail image in the Gallery section. The body of the clock has no dings or cracks. DESCRIPTION: It is an eight day wind clock where its bell clings every hour and half hour. It comes with a winding key and pendulum. Enameled dial face. Smooth black marble/slate with a gilt decoration. Considering the relatively small footprint, the clock is quite heavy, 22 lbs. I fell in love with the clock because it bears a refined taste with its soft, delicately unobtrusive bell ring. It delivers a pleasing sound resonating with a soothing sophistication especially during formal sit down dining events. HISTORY: Charles M. Foss and Albert L. Lincoln (1847-1858) advertised their firm as Importers and dealers in Rich Watches, Clocks, Jewelry & Silver Ware. The firm of Lincoln & Foss was within steps of Boston’s best jewelry houses. Lincoln & Foss was reorganized as Haddock, Lincoln & Foss in 1859, when longtime independent Boston silversmith Henry Haddock joined the firm as senior partner. As a part of their jewelry and silver ware business they imported clocks with French movement from Paris, and retailed them under a Private Label “Haddock, Lincoln & Foss, Boston.” Haddock remained with the firm until 1868, when he retired from the silverware and jewelry business. At the time of his departure, the company was disbanded, and former partner Charles M. Foss joined the partnership of Samuel T. Crosby and Henry D. Morse, which was listed in the 1870 Boston directory as “Jewelers, Silversmiths, and Diamond Cutters, also dealers of Rich Watches, Silver and Plated Wares.” MEASUREMENTS: 11” Long 6” Wide 8” High WEIGHT: 22 lbs (Condition: Pre-Owned)

Rare J.C. Brown Forestville Clock Manufactory Ripple Cut Steeple Clock Working
This is a rare ripple cut mantle clock made by J.C. Brown's Forestville Clock Manufactory 1847-1855. It is currently running. J.C. Brown Forestville Ripple Cut Steeple Clock J.C. Brown Forestville Ripple Cut Steeple Clock Click images to enlarge Description Heritage Matters J.C. BROWN FORESTVILLE CLOCK MANUFACTORY RIPPLE CUT STEEPLE CASE 8 DAY MOVEMENT, TIME & STRIKE, RUNNING Ca. 1847 - 1855 THIS is a guaranteed genuine antique "steeple" clock made by J.C. Brown when he operated as the Forestville Clock Manufactory. I believe "back in the day" they called these "sharp Gothic" clocks. Brown operated without partners from 1847 until (or perhaps through) 1855, at while time the business failed and he sold out to Welch. The cabinet does not appear to have been refinished, although it is possible; either way, the finish is good with minor scuffs and imperfections consistent with its age. As best I can tell, the scene in the lower panel is ORIGINAL, with a few losses (see photos). The movement is correctly marked Forestville (see photos), and appears to be original to the case. The dial is original, the hands are period but may or may not be original to this clock. The the original paper is good with very few losses--again see photos. The pendulum is an original one. I disassembled the movement, ultrasonically cleaned it, polished the pivots, reassembled, and lubricated it. It is presently running and striking nicely. Even so however, I sell all electrical and mechanical items AS-IS because things this old can easily get out of adjustment or even damaged in transit. This clock has been well cared for throughout its life! The case is approximately 20 X 10 X 4 inches. The wood for these ripple-front cases were cut on a specially made saw. Frankly, I find it hard to imagine how it was constructed, but someone, 150 plus years ago, figured it out. The saw was lost in a factory fire at some point. On some of these clocks, the door is also ripple-cut, but not on all, and not on this one. Please note: eBay's shipping calculator is sometimes correct, sometimes over, and sometimes under.
