Silas B. Terry Double Decker Clock, 8 Day T&S, Nice & Working, Ca. 1833-1839
A magnificent early Silas B. Terry double decker clock in good working order. Silas B. Terry Double Decker Clock, 8 Day T&S, Nice & Working, Ca. 1833-1839 Silas B. Terry Double Decker Clock, 8 Day T&S, Nice & Working, Ca. 1833-1839 Click images to enlarge Description Heritage Matters SILAS B. TERRY CLOCK DOUBLE DECKER GLASS OF RURAL SCENE 8 DAY T&S, WORKING CONDITION Ca. 1833 - 1839 THIS is a guaranteed genuine antique Silas B. Terry double decker 8 day time & strike clock, circa 1833 - 1839--and I think this one tends toward the earlier period of his production. Unlike his father and brothers, Silas tended more toward brass movements and seems to have been aiming toward a more affluent clientele. His early movements and label (like the one on this clock) are illustrated on pages 328-329 of Eli Terry and the Connecticut Shelf Clock, 2nd. Revised Edition, by Kenneth Roberts and Snowden Taylor. On page 324, he suggests that these movements, with solid back plates, and labels such as this one has date between 1833 and 1839. Note the expansive view of the movement through the large center opening in the dial (seen in similar of his clocks), and also the way the upper pulleys are arranged. It is a weight clock, with an 8 day brass movement. Like most clocks of the period, it strikes only on the hour. Notice also the viewing windows on both sides, very much like are seen on nicer tall case clocks. And rather than a simple crutch, the verge is attached to the pendulum by a pin. Very little expense was spared in the manufacture of this clock! It was nicely refinished some years ago, and the lower glass was replaced with a somewhat ordinary rural cabin scene. But look at what was used to back that lithograph: A FRONT PAGE ARTICLE PROCLAIMING LINDBERGH'S SUCCESSFUL SOLO FLIGHT FROM NEW YORK TO PARIS! The clock measures approximately 35 X 17.5 X 5 inches. The movement was quite clean when I got it, so all I did was to lubricate appropriately. The weights were re-strung in the not-too-distant past with brass or bronze cable; while that would not have been my choice, I saw no reason to replace those. As far as I can tell, the hands, pendulum rod and bob, and face are original, and the weights are period. Both the case key and the winding crank are old, probably original. It is currently running and striking nicely. For safety, the weights will be shipped in a separate box at no added expense to the buyer. I checked and was unable to find a similar clock sold on eBay for quite a few years. I did find a somewhat similar one at one of the major horological auction houses several years ago, where it went for almost $2000! I sell all electrical and mechanical devices in "as-is" condition as they can easily get out of adjustment or even broken in transit. If there is damage, this must be pursued through an insurance claim. After that is settled, assuming notification is made within the inspection period, the clock can be returned. Should you be disappointed with the clock, or simply change your mind, you have a 30 day inspection period during which the item can be returned for any reason for a refund of the purchase price--however it must be returned in the same condition in which I shipped it, meaning if there is damage, an insurance claim must be made. Because of the clock's size and weight, it will be fairly expansive to ship. However, sometimes eBay's shipping calculator is inaccurate, so feel free to contact me for a binding shipping cost. The calculator does not include shipping discounts (if any), but I pass those on to the customer. NO RESERVE! MY PLEDGE TO YOU: no surprises! I will provide high-resolution scans; I will fully describe each item, obverse and reverse, positives and negatives, possibilities, likelihoods, what I suspect, and which is which; and I will provide as much historical context as I can. Now, I believe that the only people who never make mistakes are those who never say or do anything, so consequently, there will be times I am wrong. There, you are covered by my guarantee. MY GUARANTEE TO YOU: I guarantee each item to be genuine as described. After you receive your purchase, you will have a 30 day inspection period; and if you are dissatisfied, simply return the item (in its original condition) for an immediate refund of your purchase price. Furthermore, if in the inspection period, you decide to send the item for expertizing, I will extend the period until its return from the expert of your choice. If it returns with an opinion of not genuine, or of being significantly different from how I describe it, I will also reimburse you for the expertizing fee. And the ONLY exception to my guarantee is that I am not responsible for mishandling by the mail system, and any damages incurred therein. That is what insurance is for, and it is automatic on this item. Get images thatmake Supersized seem small.Showcase your items with Auctiva sListing Templates!THE simple solution for eBay sellers.
