Extremely Rare Astronomical Regulator- 1876 Centennial Gold Medal Winner
Fantastic and enormous astronomical regular built by the German firm Gustov Becker and exhibited at the 1876 Centennials Exhibition where it won a gold medal. The clock was bought by prominent Philidelphia jeweler Samuel Kind, the first U.S. jeweler to sell diamonds. Massive movement and a 20 inch dial.S.KIND & CO. was founded by Samuel Kind in Philadelphia in 1872. Having escaped war torn Europe as a Jewish immigrant just a decade earlier, he had a vision for a new life that began to take shape with the opening of his own store. He became the first purveyor of diamonds in America, cultivating a higher end jewelry buying experience that previously would have only been available in Europe. Through his keen eye and business acumen, he built a jewelry house that would span over a century and became part of the fabric of Philadelphia Samual no doubt saw this magnificent clock at the 1876 Centennial held in Philidelphia, one of approximately twelve Astronomical Regulators made for the Exhibition by the firm of Gustav Becker then the largest clock producer in GermanyA cleaver marketing tool by Gustov Becker was the two sunken subdials which would be very labor intensive to make however this allowed for two further sunken plates for the perspective buyers to put their bussiness name on thus not looking out of place !This was the largest of the clocks produced with a 20" dial and enormous movement and bracket. And it begs to wonder if this was built into the wall of S. Kind Jewelers or perhaps a enormous floor standing clock as our example from Fontains Auctionsfrom a description of a floor standing Gustav Becker Astronomical Regulator clock sold by Fontains AuctionsGustav Becker Astronomical Floor Regulator. Large 16 in. silvered bronze astronomical dial with sweep minutes, 5.5 in. inset sub hour dial above 5.5 in. sub seconds dial, quality blued hands and gilt bronze bezel. Quality brass 8 day weight driven time only movement is signed on the rear plate ?Gustav Becker, Freiburg i/S? (in Schlesien) with ?GB? and crown over anchor mark, front and rear plates are numbered 118702; movement has deadbeat escapement with jeweled pallets, cable barrel exposed on the rear plate, maintaining power, large brass covered weight with quality 4 spoke pulley, long steel pendulum rod with 2 glass jar mercurial compensating pendulum, silvered beat indicator and beat adjustment on the pendulum rod. Exceptional Renaissance Revival carved walnut floor standing case with ebonized highlights has a pierced carved crest with filigree, seashell, turned and carved finials, raised burled panels below, long turned and tapered pendant side pieces with carved florets and incised spandrels in the upper door; the body door has a convex arch at the top under a carved drapery sash and the base has a 1 door compartment. Clock is in excellent condition, case is clean and original finish with no breaks or repairs, 2 top finials are replacements, dial has some wear to the silvering, movement is in running condition. Extremely rare and assumed to be a one of a kind piece, the carved case is of the highest grade and the movement is fine quality. Rare Art Nouveau Domed Architectural Bronze Clock by Edward Caldwell
A VERY FINE ART NOUVEAU DOMED ARCHITECTURAL TABLE CLOCKEdward F. Caldwell & Co., New York, circa early 20th century | an unsigned documented exampleItem # 307PQH13X An incredibly intricate Art Nouveau table clock from the renowned firm of Edward F. Caldwell, it is a brilliant architectural work that insinuates a domed cathedral of the Renaissance. This particular clock design is catalogued in the archival records of the Smithsonian Library and Archives (Large Portfolio 84, p. 5, # A025762). It features a cast bronze finial of opposing harpies rising from cornucopia that the Caldwell firm used in several of their designs (for example, as the central motif raising a pair of candelabra branches in # A25571, Smithsonian archives, see enclosed image) situated over a domed top with applied pierced bronze elements that are intricately chiseled and bright-engraved to create a complex endlessly swirling collection of fretwork surrounding ecclesiastical imagery of classical figures, putti and angels. The fretwork in the canted corners of the dome hint at the influence of orientalism in the design process while heroes battling fantastical creatures ride horses at each corner.Raising each of the four corners of the structure are two male and two female bacchanalia figures brilliantly executed in gilded bronze, the front two flanking the circular face of the clock, this dial with raised Roman numerals over a hammered ground, the same motif of swirling foliage flowing centrally and in the spandrels of the face. The clock is raised on a base of fish-scale cove moldings over four pomegranite bun feet.The clever entwining of motifs by the designer to create a new object that embodies the essence of Art Nouveau is evident throughout the form. The classical inspirations in the heavenly imagery of the dome juxtapose brilliantly the Naturalism in the lower body of the clock. It remains an incredibly elaborate and cherished example. Important Multi Complication Chronometer Carriage Clock w Perpetual Calendar ...
eBay I have the privilege of offering this rare clock today for a dear friend who is in his 90s and has been slowly liquidating his collection through me over the past several years. This clock was purchased by him directly from Sinclair Harding in the 1980s. Clock measures 13 1/2" high, 17" with handle up, 8 1/4" wide, 7" side. As far as we know it is one of the most complicated clocks Harding has made and the only one to have ever been offered for resale until now. The condition is excellent! The clock has been very well taken care of though it has never been serviced because he was afraid to have someone take it apart. (Please keep in mind that this clock needs to be serviced) The Movement is running and has kept time since I set it about 15 hours ago. Repeater works but is sluggish though it's getting better each time I push it, same with the striking. I don't believe the clock has been wound in a couple years. The entire face of the clock measuring 10" x 6.5" is solid sterling silver with Birmingham hallmarks for 1983. I am not an expert though I will describe what I know so far about the complications. It is a striking and hour repeater, phases and age of the moon, zodiac sign display wheel, 2 wind indicators, perpetual calendar, day, date and month and a seconds indicator on the top near the balance. The movement is a high grade pivoted detent chronometer. The 2-tone full dial plate is solid sterling silver. Not sure exactly what wood was used though it is very dark and exotic with gilt brass mounts and inlays. If you are a clock maker, you can probably say quite a bit more about this clock as I'm sure I'm missing something. (Condition: Pre-Owned)

CARTIER ART DECO ENAMEL AND AGATE DESK CLOCK 18k Gold.
Features a square agate frame with incuse corners and engine turned center, fancy scroll hands, cobalt enamel and gold laurel border. Stamped and engraved with serial number547 on the gold handle as seen in "European Watch & Clock Co. Inc France;" signed "Cartier" on clock face. Please look at pictures for condition. I don’t have any paperwork included with this clock. The key for winding the clock is not the original but is the right size which is a 1.65mm key that works perfectly to wind and set the time. Beautiful clock. The clock works, when winding you can hear the clock ticking. Clock must be wind every 24 hours. Any questions please message me before you purchase the clock.
