Kirsch Hamilton & Tik-Tek Engineering Octo Clock by Steve Diskin - Super Rare
Up for grabs is a clock by one of my favorite designers, Steve Diskin. It’s called the Octo clock, produced in 1980 by Diskin’s company, Tik-Tek Engineering, together with Kirsch Hamilton, the original manufacturer of the legendary Aurora polarized light clock. The clock’s case is made from black lacquered PVC piping that’s open at both ends and curved at the top at a 45° angle. It has an inset black plastic dial with painted white indices running from the dial’s edge to the center, a clear plastic minute hand with a semi-circular bright yellow tip bisected by a black line, a clear plastic hour hand with a bright green circular tip bisected by a black line, and an oversized rotating red circular second hand bisected by a black line in the middle of the dial. Its shape is reminiscent of some Italian clocks of the period, but its materials, shape and bright splashes of color give it a sense of surprise and whimsy unique to Diskin’s (and Tik-Tek’s) sensibility and seen in his other designs. The clock is 5w x 8h inches. It’s powered by a battery operated quartz movement that’s affixed to the back of the dial (see photo #9), and which is accessed by reaching through the inside of the base to change the battery (one size C) and set the time. The clock works great. And this example has the extra perk of its original illustrated cardboard box. The condition of the clock is excellent, with no scratches, marks or discernible issues. The box is also in great condition, with no tears, rips or writing, just a few imperfections from shelf wear. Please look closely at all the photos and feel free to message me with any questions.
