Face: Circular white surrounded by gilt brass markers, Arabic numerals, hour and minute hand. Clock Case: Rectangular glass case with gilt brass canted frame that lifts off from the base with feet. Plate on bottom of case has an inscription as to the recipient of this clock in 1962. Serial Number: 148569 (For this serial number online reference states models 526-6, 528 years 1960-1980 - Clock gifted in 1962) The atmosphere causes the clock to wind automatically without human intervention ie perpetual motion. Set Up: Set up instructions enclosed that I received from A Gunlap Horologist who serviced this clock in 2-2021. FULLY RESTORED GIROD FRENCH ART DECO STYLE WESTMINSTER CHIME WALL CLOCK Offered for sale in this auction is a very nice Girod French Westminster Chime wall clock. The firm of Girod was founded in 1865 by the brothers Leon and Auguste Girod in the Morbier Jura region of France where they manufactured a range of mechanical clocks including wall mounted Westminster chime clocks and floor standing long case clocks. The wall clocks were made almost exclusively in the Art Deco style. The case has a bell-shaped piece of beveled glass that allows you to watch the pendulum go back and forth. These clocks have great tone, a video is attached for your listening pleasure. There are the usual flaws that almost all clocks of this vintage have, a close up of the veneer repair to the lower part of the front door is attached. I would also ask you to please examine the high-resolution pictures carefully as they provide much of the description for this fine timepiece. Case dimensions are 14 inches wide and 25.5 inches high and 7.5 inches deep. The clock has an eight-inch dial and comes complete with the original pendulum and what I believe is the original winding key. WHAT MAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE? The rules of economics are fairly straightforward Simply put, it is almost impossible to spend a little and get a lot. Antique and vintage clocks follow these rules as well. You can buy “As Found” clocks for less money. Then you have to pay a shop to go through the movement and when you are done, you have spent more than if you would have bid on the nicer clocks in the beginning. I ultrasonically cleaned the movement, removed the springs from the barrels and cleaned them the same way. The time spring was weak sot it was replaced with a quality German made replacement. Everything was then oiled using a high-quality clock oil and the clock was then tested for a full eight days. BUYER RESPONSIBILITY Both parties need to be fully engaged in the buying process for a transaction to be a success. Buyers need to understand that the clocks I sell are between 80 and 140 years old. While the movements are fully serviced, all of my clocks show some scars from these decades of use. I try to describe these marks as best I can and mention them in my listing text. I count on the buyer to read the entire auction text and examine the high-resolution pictures closely to make sure my item meets your needs and expectations. I am always willing to make good on any shipping damage through the insurance process but I am no longer willing to offer partial refunds simply because the buyer did not read the listing or examine the auction photos. PAYMENT AND SHIPPING. People deserve to be treated fairly and to expect that their transaction will be handled as if the business was being done face to face.
