Silas Hoadley Upside Down Movement Clock, 30 Hour T&S, Original Glasses, Runs!
This is a Silas Hoadley Pillar and Splat clock with his "upside down" movement, ca. 1830-1835. It is currently working. Silas Hoadley Upside Down Movement Clock, 30 Hour T&S, Original Glasses, Runs! Silas Hoadley Upside Down Movement Clock, 30 Hour T&S, Original Glasses, Runs! Click images to enlarge Description Heritage Matters SILAS HOADLEY PILLAR & SPLAT CLOCK ORIGINAL CASE, MOVEMENT, & MOST PARTS UPSIDE DOWN MOVEMENT, 30 HOUR T&S w/ ALARM CIRCA 1830 - 1835 This is an antique Silas Hoadley "Pillar and Splat" clock with claw feet, also known as a "Franklin Clock" because of the label with that & Franklin's head, as well as the "TIME IS MONEY" glass. It has the more scarce "upside down" movement, which was his "work-around" to avoid infringing on Eli Terry's patent. It made circa 1830-1835. The glasses are original, with considerable losses to the lower glass. However, the "TIME IS MONEY" saying is very good. The label is mostly intact and readable. Not all the Hoadley clocks have both the "FRANKLIN CLOCKS" and the "TIME IS MONEY" glasses, but this one does! There are some old veneer repairs, but I do not see any missing veneer, and the escutcheons are present. It was probably refinished in the past, but done very professionally. Look at the stenciling, it is great! In fact, the whole clock is in excellent condition; if you have been waiting for a Hoadley clock in great condition, wait no longer! All three weights are original--yes, I said three, because besides the hour strike, it has an alarm. I am pretty sure the pointer hand for the alarm is a modern replacement, but the other hands, as well as the pendulum bob are all original. The clock is currently running and striking AND alarming correctly. Please note however that these wooden movements were made with an expected 20 year lifespan, and it has now been nearly 200 years. They can be temperamental, and there is no way to predict when something will break. Consequently I think it will work upon receipt and proper set-up, but I cannot guarantee that. I sell all electrical and mechanical devices in "AS-IS" condition as they can easily get out of adjustment or even broken in transit. Even then, however, you still have a 30 day inspection period during which the item can be returned or any reason--however it must be returned in the same condition in which I shipped it, meaning if there is damage, an insurance claim must be made. Please ask questions and study the photos carefully, as they are part of the description. By the way, for safety, the weights will be shipped in a separate box. Should there be a problem with your purchase, please contact me directly through the eBay mail system. I can and will do the same things directly that I would through eBay, and probably more quickly. NO RESERVE! MY PLEDGE TO YOU: no surprises! I will provide high-resolution scans; I will fully describe each item, obverse and reverse, positives and negatives, possibilities, likelihoods, what I suspect, and which is which; and I will provide as much historical context as I can. Now, I believe that the only people who never make mistakes are those who never say or do anything, so consequently, there will be times I am wrong. There, you are covered by my guarantee. MY GUARANTEE TO YOU: I guarantee each item to be genuine as described. After you receive your purchase, you will have a 30 day inspection period; and if you are dissatisfied for any reason, simply return the item (in its original condition) for an immediate refund of your purchase price. If it returns with an opinion of not genuine, or of being significantly different from how I describe it, I will also reimburse you for the expertizing fee. Eli Terry Wooden Works Transition Clock
This is a nice 30 hour Eli Terry clock. The finish is old, possibly original. The dial, top glass and bottom painted glass all look original but I'm no expert. The putty looks old to me. The hands have been replaced I think. The clock is 29" tall, 17" wide and 5" deep. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description I did notice when photographing this clock that there is a piece of veneer missing from the top right door frame. There's a pic of the corner

Antique Seth Thomas Pillar & Scroll Clock, 30 Hour T&S, Original Glasses, Runs!
This is a Seth Thomas Pillar and Scroll clock, ca. 1825-1830. It is currently working . Antique Seth Thomas Pillar & Scroll Clock, 30 Hour T&S, Original Glasses, Runs! Antique Seth Thomas Pillar & Scroll Clock, 30 Hour T&S, Original Glasses, Runs! Click images to enlarge Description Heritage Matters SETH THOMAS PILLAR & SCROLL CLOCK ORIGINAL CASE, MOVEMENT, & MOST PARTS 30 HOUR T&S CIRCA 1825 - 1830 This is an antique Seth Thomas "Pillar and Scroll" clock, made circa 1825-1830. The finials are reproductions, the numerals on the dial have been strengthened (good job of it), and the lower glass has been repainted in place (fair job, not great), but as far as I can tell, everything else is original! The movement appears to be the standard Seth Thomas movement, Snowdon Taylor's subtype 1.513, and I believe it to be original to this case. The tips of the upper scrolls are good, with NO repairs evident. The original lock is present, but does not appear to be functional; someone long ago added a knob to the door for opening and closing. The pendulum bob is original, as are the hands. A small amount of the wood on the hour arbor has been lost and a previous repairman added a brass washer and two small pins to stabilize the hand. One of the tips of the lower scroll, on the skirt, appears to have gotten broken and either repaired or replaced, but it is not very noticeable. There are various old veneer repairs--see photos, as they are part of the description. As stated in the condition report, I cleaned the movement, restrung the original weights, and of course reassembled it. It is presently working nicely. Please note however that these wooden movements were made with an expected 20 year lifespan, and it has now been nearly 200 years. They can be temperamental, and there is no way to predict when something will break. Consequently I think it will work upon receipt and proper set-up, but I cannot guarantee that. It has probably been refinished, some years ago I would say. It is really a nice-looking clock! Seth Thomas essentially copied Eli Terry's design under agreements they made in 1818 and 1822. However, Terry sued Thomas in 1826 and again in 1827. Some historians believe these lawsuits were really to dissuade others from copying Terry's designs, while others think that Terry was serious in the suits. Either way, the suits were settled later in 1827. Note that the label on this clock does not acknowledge Terry or his design, suggesting it was made prior to settling the lawsuit.
