Antique c19th Century Art Nouveau Style Waterbury Clock Co., Bronze Metal Cast Iron Shelf mantle Clock. This is a very large ornate clock. It is complete with pendulum but is missing key! This clock has a wood removable backing which gives access to the workings of the clock.The front face of clock is in roman numerials.The face has wear conducive to use and age. PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICE HISTORY: In 1854, Waterbury, Connecticut based brass manufacturer Benedict & Burnham created Waterbury Clock Company to manufacture clocks using brass wheels and gears. Waterbury Clock Company was legally incorporated on March 27, 1857, as an independent business with $60,000 in capital.The American clock industry, with scores of companies located in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, was producing millions of clocks, earning the region the nickname, "Switzerland of America". The Waterbury Clock Company was one of the largest producers for both domestic sales and export, primarily to Europe. Today its successor, Timex Group USA, Inc. is the only remaining watch company in the region. Originally, the company produced clocks as less expensive alternatives to the high-end European counterparts of the time. In 1887 the company began experimenting with its product line, leading to the creation of the large Jumbo pocket watch, invented by Archibald Bannatyne and named after the famous P. T. Barnum elephant. The Jumbo was put on the market in New York City on a trial basis, catching the attention of Robert H. Ingersoll, a salesman and eventual marketing pioneer. During the turn of the century, Waterbury Clock Company produced millions of pocket watches for the newly created partnership of Robert and his brother Charles, Robert H. Ingersoll & Bro., under their own brand name. In 1896, Ingersoll introduced the Ingersoll Yankee, a dollar pocket watch supplied by Waterbury Clock Company. These watches gained such great popularity that they became known as "the watch that made the dollar famous."In 1877, a new prototype was introduced to Benedict and Burnham for an inexpensive pocket watch made of 58 parts, mostly made of punched sheet brass. They immediately set aside an unused portion of their machine shop and began producing the Long Wind at a rate of 200 per day by 1878. The department quickly outgrew its space in the plant, so with a capital of $400,000 Waterbury Clock's sister company Waterbury Watch Company was incorporated by Benedict & Burnham in 1880 to manufacture and sell inexpensive watches and other timepieces. Waterbury Watch started out very successfully in its early days, employing hundreds of women for their "slender fingers" and "delicate manipulation," having become the largest volume producer of watches in the world by 1888.Due to poor sales techniques, where jobbers and salesmen gave away much of the Waterbury Watch products as loss leaders with little regard to the company's future, thereby cheapening the products' perceived value, Waterbury Watch quickly fell into bankruptcy. In a last attempt to salvage the company, Waterbury Watch began to produce higher-end watch models which only created more demand on a workforce unable to keep up with the complexity of the new watches using several hundred parts. The company was finally reorganized as the New England Watch Company in 1898 as its London sales office was placed into liquidation. The company continued to focus on high-priced watch models and eventually fell into receivership, discontinuing business in July 1912. Robert H. Ingersoll & Bro. bought the Waterbury plant and began manufacturing Ingersoll Watches there in 1914. With the American entry into World War I there were new demands for timepiece design. Artillery gunners needed an easy way to calculate and read time while still being able to work the guns. The Waterbury Clock Company met this need by modifying the small Ingersoll ladies' Midget pocket watch to become military-issue wristwatches — lugs were added for a canvas strap, the crown was repositioned to 3 o'clock, hands and numbers were made luminescent for nighttime readability, thus making one of the first wrist watches. In 1922, Waterbury Clock Company purchased the Robert H. Ingersoll & Bro. company for $1,500,000, which had gone bankrupt the previous year due to the post-war recession, thereby inheriting all of Ingersoll's and Waterbury Watch's assets and facilities. Unable to deliver on Ingersoll's guarantee of quality in Europe due to the Great Depression, Waterbury Clock sold the London-based Ingersoll, Ltd. to its Board of Directors in 1930, making it a wholly British-owned enterprise. The "powerful Ingersoll brand name" was continued in the United States by Waterbury Clock into the 1950s. No longer part of Waterbury Clock Company, Ingersoll Ltd. continued to produce the Ingersoll watch brand independently for the European and other international markets. Following the Great Depression and a period of hardship for the company, Waterbury Clock Company regained its identity in the consumer market. In 1930, a license agreement was reached with Walt Disney, resulting in the production of the famous Mickey Mouse watches and clocks under the Ingersoll brand name. The new Mickey Mouse timepieces were introduced to the public at the Chicago World's Fair in June 1933 and quickly became the company's first million-dollar line, saving it from financial disaster. In 1940, Thomas Olsen (owner and operator of Fred. Olsen Shipping Co.) and Joakim Lehmkuhl fled Norway with their families because of the Nazi invasion Eventually they came to the United States seeking investments to assist in the war effort. In 1941, Olsen and Lehmkuhl purchased controlling interest in Waterbury Clock Company, with Thomas Olsen becoming Chairman. Though the company had fallen on hard times during the Great Depression it still had the manufacturing capability to make large numbers of timing devices. Mr. Lehmkuhl, who had studied business and engineering at Harvard and MIT, was appointed President by Olsen and, under his direction, the company became the largest producer of fuse timers for precision defense products in the United States. A new concrete plant was built in nearby Middlebury, Connecticut in 88 days in 1942 for the high-volume production of precision timers. In August 1943, the Army-Navy "E" Award for excellence was awarded by the United States Under-Secretary of War to Waterbury Clock Company for the "Anglo-American fuse". As a result of this success shareholders in the following December voted to rename the company to United States Time Corporation.

FULLY RESTORED GAZO SAN MARCOS TRIPLE CHIME WALL CLOCK For your consideration is an impressive Gazo San Marcos triple chime wall clock. I encourage you to look up the history of the Gazo family, they made very high-quality clocks in very limited numbers. I bought the clock from the family of the original owners and serviced the movement in my shop. After servicing, the clock ran for 11 days before the springs fully wound down. The movement is stamped with a date of manufacture of June 1980 and the back tag shows that the clock was sold by Argo Clocks of Santa Clara, CA on December 20, 1980. Triple Chime means that the clock will play your choice of Westminster, Whittington, or St. Michael. There is a selector switch at the top of the dial to make the selection. The case is solid oak, measuring 38 inches tall by 13.5 inches wind and 9.5 inches deep. Please look carefully at the 16 attached pictures as they provide a large amount of the description of this fine timepiece. I would also encourage you to check recent eBay sales for this Gazo model, it is how I determined the asking price and, in my opinion, this clock is superior because of the movement being serviced. GAZO FAMILY CLOCKS HISTORY. Around 1973, Lou and Cleo Gazo, along with their children Ed and Renee, took the family hobby to the next level and started the Gazo Family Clock Factory. The idea was to build clocks based on the highly carved European clocks that they had been importing and restoring. Gazo clocks were mainly sold by clock shops like The ClockPeace, a chain of clock stores with locations in Carmel, San Francisco, and La Jolla, California. Gazo also ran two stores in Scottsdale, AZ and Beverly Hills. As you can see by the store locations, Gazo clocks were high-end and purchased by the most discerning buyers. Lou Gazo retired in 1982 and Ed Gazo became president of the company. Gazo Clocks continued to operate until 1989 when they finally ceased operations. Gazo clocks are still highly sought after today for the highly carved and well-built cases. PAYMENT AND SHIPPING. FULLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS SHIP’S CHRONOMETER LEVER NO. 12
FULLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS SHIP’S CHRONOMETER LEVER NO. 12 Offered for sale is a Seth Thomas Ship’s Chronometer. This one is Lever No. 12 and it is shown in Ly’s Seth Thomas book, third edition. It is item 2672 on page 780. It lists 1920 as the date of manufacture and gives $3500 for the value of a 12-inch dial chronometer. This chronometer measures 11.75 inches across with a 10” dial so the value is somewhat less. I used recent auction sales prices during my research and found clocks of this value selling for around $1000 with the buyer’s premium. The case is solid cast brass and the clock was built for the Crosby Steamgage and Valve Company and was most likely used in a steam plant or the engine room of a ship. Seth Thomas supplied these clocks to many companies, as well as the US Military. I have a copy of a photo of these clocks in service on a U.S. Navy vessel that I will send along with the clock. This clock comes with a quality replacement key complete with the Seth Thomas logo. I ask you to examine the high-resolution pictures closely as they are a large part of the description of this item. WHAT MAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE? The rules of economics are fairly straightforward Simply put, it is almost impossible to spend a little and get a lot. Antique and vintage clocks follow these rules as well. You can buy “As Found” clocks for less money. Then you have to pay a shop to go through the movement and when you are done, you have spent more than if you would have bid on the nicer clocks in the beginning. I have tried through the photos to show the basic steps that I do in restoring these wonderful machines to their original state. My goal is to provide you with a quality time piece that will provide enjoyment and be a source of pride in your home for years to come. Equally important to me is to provide you with a clock that I believe will retain its value over the years. That is what I think constitutes real value in antique and vintage clocks. MY PHILOSOPHY ON CLOCKS AND CLOCK MOVEMENTS. The only way to properly repair a movement is to completely disassemble, clean and inspect all parts, and make the needed repairs by proper horological methods. This includes the rebushing of all worn holes and the polishing of any rough pivots. The movements are then reassembled, lubricated with a high-quality clock oil and test run for 8 days. This is a very time intensive process but is the only correct way to properly recondition a clock movement. You should expect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten years trouble-free. I have been doing clock repair for over 42 years. I apprenticed under an Oregon State licensed repairman and have been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) since 1981. I do not make a living doing this; it has become a passion of mine. I go to estate sales, auctions, and search places like eBay and Craigslist to find clocks that are in need of restoration. Once they are made like new mechanically, I put them up for sale in the hopes of paying for my materials and upgrading my personal collection. My hope is also to provide you with an heirloom to cherish for years to come. BUYER RESPONSIBILITY Both parties need to be fully engaged in the buying process for a transaction to be a success. Buyers need to understand that the clocks I sell are between 80 and 140 years old. While the movements are fully serviced, all of my clocks show some scars from these decades of use. I try to describe these marks as best I can and mention them in my listing text. NEW HAVEN CLOCK CO. "WILLARD" MODEL 30 DAY TIME ONLY BANJO CLOCK FULLY RESTORED Offered for sale is a very nice New Haven Willard 30 double spring time only banjo clock with a fully and properly restored movement. This model is shown in Ly’s New Haven book on page 59. It is shown as item 188 and gives a date of manufacture of 1911. The case measures 44 inches tall and the clock has an 8-inch dial. The clock’s size is impressive, it is the same size as the E. Howard No. 2 Banjo. The movement has been completely serviced with all pivots polished and all holes properly burnished. The reverse painted glass is as perfect as you will ever find and the original label is in good condition. The brass bezel has been cleaned and polished and the brass side rails were cleaned, polished and then properly sealed with lacquer. This clock has been in my personal collection for quite a while but we are thinking about downsizing and I have been asked to “thin the herd” in preparation for the move. Please examine the high-resolution pictures carefully as they provide a detailed description of this fine timepiece. WHAT MAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE? The rules of economics are fairly straightforward Simply put, it is almost impossible to spend a little and get a lot. Antique and vintage clocks follow these rules as well. You can buy “As Found” clocks for less money. Then you have to pay a shop to go through the movement and when you are done, you have spent more than if you would have bid on the nicer clocks in the beginning. I have tried through the photos to show the basic steps that I do in restoring these wonderful machines to their original state. My goal is to provide you with a quality time piece that will provide enjoyment and be a source of pride in your home for years to come. Equally important to me is to provide you with a clock that I believe will retain its value over the years. That is what I think constitutes real value in antique and vintage clocks. MY PHILOSOPHY ON CLOCKS AND CLOCK MOVEMENTS. The only way to properly repair a movement is to completely disassemble, clean and inspect all parts, and make the needed repairs by proper horoligical methods. This includes the rebushing of all worn holes and the polishing of any rough pivots. The movements are then reassembled, lubricated with a high-quality clock oil and test run for 8 days. This is a very time intensive process but is the only correct way to properly recondition a clock movement. You should expect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten years trouble-free. I have been doing clock repair for over 43 years. I apprenticed under an Oregon State licensed repairman and have been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) since 1981. I do not make a living doing this; it has become a passion of mine. I go to estate sales, auctions, and search places like eBay and Craigslist to find clocks that need restoration. Once they are made like new mechanically, I put them up for sale in the hopes of paying for my materials and upgrading my personal collection. My hope is also to provide you with an heirloom to cherish for years to come. BUYER RESPONSIBILITY Both parties need to be fully engaged in the buying process for a transaction to be a success. Buyers need to understand that the clocks I sell are between 80 and 140 years old. While the movements are fully serviced, all of my clocks show some scars from these decades of use. 40101 - Rare Antique Prentiss "Empire" Calendar Clock with 90-Day Movement
eBay 11 30Dimensions: 37 14 7”C 1898 Prentiss Improvement Clock Co., New York, "Empire" model calendar clock with a long-running 90-day double spring driven time movement and "Thrasher" calendar mechanism.The case and dial are older restorations. The components of the clock are original to each other - movements, case, hands, pendulum, glasses and hardware. The metal flat dial plate had an old paper face on it. I refinished it and noticed that it may not be original.Time movement: Long running 90-day time only signed movement. Unrestored. It has been running since I wound it 8 weeks ago. There is no guarantee of running as the movement is not restored Calendar Thrasher: Long running 1 year wind thrasher movement. Unrestored. Untested. The calendar papers are original. Copies are sold on Ebay. I may have access to some reproduction date 'flip' cards for an extra charge. These movements are finicky and difficult to work on. I haven't seen a working one in the past 50 years. The movement was designed to run for a full year on a full wind of the spring Pendulum: The original pendulum has a brass damascened bob and long adjusting nut that extends through the bottom board of the clock for easy adjustment These long running Prentiss models are hard to find.Clocks are only warranted to run if the movement was recently overhauled. This clock movement has not been worked on and is sold 'as is'.See pictures for detail and ask any questions before purchasing. This is a very heavy clock. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
