eBay An Edwardian miniature travel clock designed by Valmé Extremely beautiful antique miniature travel-carriage clock, made in Geneva Switzerland by the Concord Watch Co. This little antique clock is exceptional, created during the Edwardian and the belle epoque periods, back in the 1908-1910. It was crafted with gorgeous details in solid sterling silver .935/.999 and mount on a four-round footed base. The three sides panels and the top, are embellished with applications of vivid pink enamel over a radiant Guilloché surface. Antique Winterhalder & Hofmeier Small Desk Clock Westminster Chimes w/ Balance Wheel Movement Runs, Strikes and Chimes Item Description Here is a great unique Winterhalder & Hofmeier Bracket Clock with Wood Case and Beveled Glass in running condition for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself!Very unique, uncommon, and rare clock example here from Winterhalder & Hofmeier. First the size, this clock is only 8.75" tall, Secondly, this is a balance wheel movement, have never seen a W&H clock that was not powered by a pendulum.This fine antique mantel clock is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a high end auction house or clock shop. We have been selling clocks out of our home for over 35 years. We are therefore better positioned to control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the high end auction houses and clock shops experience. The clock dates to the 1910 period from what we have researched online. The diminutive size would have it fall into the category of a desk clock. There is another one now online that does not have the Westminster Chimes unit that is up for $2,500 (same diminutive size, still a pendulum driven movement). Another one sold in 2002, again not with Westminster Chimes unit, for $600 per a site we utilize in researching our clock offerings. This clock is much more rare and unique than those clocks.Check out the beautiful curved top on the clock. The case is all intact, with the exception of the carving at the peak of the case. Not sure if carving like rest of case just fell off, or if there was a piece mounted to the front top of the clock at one time. Some minor finish loss to the case. The rear wood door is in place as is the latch mechanism. The red fabric is in place on the inside of the door. The 4 brass like doughnut feet are also still in place on the clock case. Show some finish loss. Beautiful mahogany case on this clock. The clock face is silver with black numbers. Some moderate loss of finish around the wind holes. The bezel is securely attached to the case by the hinge. The beveled glass in the bezel is intact, no cracking or blistering. The front door is very thick with a brass surround, securely attached to the case by the hinges.The movement looks good. The three wind springs feel sound when keyed. The movement has not been serviced or cleaned, we are selling it the way we found it. The clock will come with a wind key. We are selling this clock in running, chiming, and striking condition at this juncture, no warranty intended. There is no representation that the clock is in original condition, or will continue to be in working order. The clock has a Westminster Chime's unit. The clock chimes every 15 minutes, and then chime and strikes on the hour. This is a five gong wire unit. From 1908 the new name was M. Winterhalder & Hofmeier GmbH. Might also be a George Nelson designed clock for Howard Miller, but no notation of Miller or Nelson on the case or movement that we can ascertain. We can therefore better control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the high end auction houses and Clock Shops experience.Some information about the possible designer of the clock, George Nelson;GEORGE NELSON (USA, 1908 1986)Architect designer, and writer, George Nelson was a central figure in the mid-century American modernist design movement; and his thoughts influenced not only the furniture we live with, but also how we live. Nelson came to design via journalism and literature. Upon receiving his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Yale in 1931, he won the Prix de Rome fellowship, and spent his time in Europe writing magazine articles that helped bring stateside recognition to Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Gio Ponti, Le Corbusier and other canonical modernist architects. In the 1940s, Nelson wrote texts that suggested such now-commonplace ideas as open-plan houses, storage walls and family rooms. D.J. Depree, the owner of the furniture maker Herman Miller Inc., was so impressed by Nelson that in 1944 — following the sudden death of Gilbert Rohde, who had introduced the firm to modern design in the 1930s — he invited Nelson to join the company as its design director. There Nelson’s curatorial design talents came to the fore. To Herman Miller he brought such eminent creators as Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi, and the textile and furniture designer Alexander Girard. Thanks to a clever contract, at the same time as he directed Herman Miller he formed a New York design company, George Nelson & Associates, that sold furniture designs to the Michigan firm, as well as its competitor, the Howard Miller Clock Company. Nelson’s New York team of designers (who were rarely individually credited) would create such iconic pieces as the sofa, the “Coconut” chair, the “Ball” clock, the “Bubble” lamp series and the many cabinets and beds that comprise the sleek “Thin-Edge” line. For dedicated collectors, as well as for interior designers who look beyond “the look,” there is a “cool factor” inherent to vintage pieces from George Nelson and others. Nelson was in on it from the start, and it’s valuable to have a piece that was there with him. But still, as is evident from the offerings from dealers on these pages, in any of the designs, in any iteration whose manufacture Nelson oversaw and encouraged, there are shining elements of lightness, elegance, sophistication —and a little bit of swagger. George Nelson felt confident in his ideas about design and didn’t mind letting the world know.The clock was most likely made in the early 1970s to mid-1980s. Was an AT&T presentation retirement piece based upon the logo on the face. Beautiful oak wood case on this one. The case is made of oak. The front door is securely attached to the rest of the case by the hinges. There a a gold colored trim around the glass in the front door. The glass is intact, no cracking or blistering.Has two weights with brass lacquer shells. One of the weights has a small ding in the length of shell, cannot see if hang so to back.Beautiful clear acrylic face that is rectangular in shape. This clock face has roman numerals at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 positions. Nice looking matching hands on the clock. We see no cracks or splits in the wood case, nor any missing pieces. The clock comes with a winding key. The magnetic locking latch for the front door is in place and operating. This clock is being sold in running and striking condition. The clock has a nice bim bam strike. Strikes the bim bam sequence once at the half hour and repeats the bim bam strike the number of times for the hours. The movement is a Kieninger which is made in Germany. Has a serial number impressed on the back plate of the movement of 0710134075 The clock is 44.5" tall, 14.5" across, by 7-5/8" wide.
