French Industrial Steam Hammer Clock

Sold on eBay May 27th, 2024

French Industrial Steam Hammer Clock

late 19th Century black patinated and lacquered brass industrial mystery/novelty clock in the form of a steam hammer by André Romain GuilmetThe reciprocating hammer head is the clock’s pendulum and the motion is achieved by a complex transmission from the escape wheel of a French “pendule de Paris”.The first steam hammer was invented by James Naysmyth who was a contemporary of Guilmet. Guilmet’s fascination with all things industrial as well as horological prompted him to make a clock modelled on Naysmith’s hammerIt is interesting to note that Guilmet was also a prolific inventor who took out many patents and it was he who in 1868, first placed a driving chain on a bicycle, such that it would drive the rear wheel in the manner that we are still familiar with today. This is an estate sale found selling for parts or to be restored Please check the pictures before bidding (Condition: Parts Only)
Ithaca Calendar Clock 3 1/2 Parlor very early example antique clock

Sold on eBay July 17th, 2023

Ithaca Calendar Clock 3 1/2 Parlor very early example antique clock

Ithaca Calendar Clock 3 1/2 Parlor very early example (one person told me 1868-70 due to the lack of patent info on the glass) This clock was running fine before it was boxed 15 years ago, so all the parts are complete. One of the top decorative horns was repaired. The original walnut back of the clock works has seen repair of a crack. The bottom back looks to be a walnut replacement (from a long time ago). This clock was part of a collection from my grandparents and needs a good home. 20" tall and 5" deep, 10" at the base. A few have been for sale and one was on antique roadshow (Auction est. was $2500). Comes with key. If you need more information on these clocks, there is plenty of information on the internet. Antique 1860’s French Movement Mantle Clock sold under a Private Label Rights

Sold on eBay June 9th, 2024

Antique 1860’s French Movement Mantle Clock sold under a Private Label Rights

Antique 1860’s French movement mantle shelf clock sold under a Private Label Rights “Haddock Lincoln & Foss ”CONDITION: Excellent! It is in great condition. It runs well. There are traces of minor chipping around the right key hole. Please see the detail image in the Gallery section. The body of the clock has no dings or cracks. DESCRIPTION: It is an eight day wind clock where its bell clings every hour and half hour. It comes with a winding key and pendulum. Enameled dial face. Smooth black marble/slate with a gilt decoration. Considering the relatively small footprint, the clock is quite heavy, 22 lbs. I fell in love with the clock because it bears a refined taste with its soft, delicately unobtrusive bell ring. It delivers a pleasing sound resonating with a soothing sophistication especially during formal sit down dining events. HISTORY: Charles M. Foss and Albert L. Lincoln (1847-1858) advertised their firm as Importers and dealers in Rich Watches, Clocks, Jewelry & Silver Ware. The firm of Lincoln & Foss was within steps of Boston’s best jewelry houses. Lincoln & Foss was reorganized as Haddock, Lincoln & Foss in 1859, when longtime independent Boston silversmith Henry Haddock joined the firm as senior partner. As a part of their jewelry and silver ware business they imported clocks with French movement from Paris, and retailed them under a Private Label “Haddock, Lincoln & Foss, Boston.” Haddock remained with the firm until 1868, when he retired from the silverware and jewelry business. At the time of his departure, the company was disbanded, and former partner Charles M. Foss joined the partnership of Samuel T. Crosby and Henry D. Morse, which was listed in the 1870 Boston directory as “Jewelers, Silversmiths, and Diamond Cutters, also dealers of Rich Watches, Silver and Plated Wares.” MEASUREMENTS: 11” Long 6” Wide 8” High WEIGHT: 22 lbs (Condition: Pre-Owned)
Scarce Welch Spring 8-Day Time and Strike Calendar Clock Italian No. 3 Working

Sold on eBay February 27th, 2025

Scarce Welch Spring 8-Day Time and Strike Calendar Clock Italian No. 3 Working

Scarce Welch Spring 8-Day Time and Strike Calendar Clock Italian No. 3 Working Up for sale is this scarce Welch Spring 8-day time and strike calendar clock Italian no.3, Circa 1870. Mr. Welch was a world traveler and named many of his clocks with foreign names hence "Italian". It features the B.B. Lewis Perpetual Calendar mechanism with the last patent date Dec. 20, 1868. B.B. Lewis Clock Co. was the original maker of this clock. He later went to work for Welch Spring and this clock went with him and was added to the Welch line. It strikes a gong with the number of hours and also shows the month, date and day. This clock measures 18" tall x 11" wide x 5 1/4" deep and is in overall very good condition. It has the original dials, pendulum, glass and door latches. The hands are also original except the small hand for the day on the top dial. The rosewood veneered case is nice, but the base has some repairs, refinishing in a darker color and some veneer loss which seems to be very common on these clocks. It still looks quite good in my opinion. The key is included which also turns the top door latch. The label on the inside back has a lot of wear. The B.B. Lewis label on the inside of the bottom door is quite good except for a small 1" x 1/2" place where it is worn off. You will not be disappointed in this rare clock. It is running very well at the time of this listing but may need slight adjustment after shipping. RARE 1898 Kroeber VENTURA Figural Bronze Enameled Mantel Clock Pandora WORKS!

eBay 19th Century Florenz Friederick Kroeber Figural Mantel ClockThe antique spelter with bronze finish statue of Pandora and her box is in wonderful shape with a lovely patina. She stands (sits) at 9” high and 7” wide. She still retains the majority of her original finish. Pandora sits on an enameled iron base with glossy finish with mercury winged feet. This clock is stunning, special and scarce. Last one like this to sell on ebay was in 2016! It is listed in the Tran Duy Ly Kroeber book. This clock would not be out of place on the cover of a collector book. This would be an amazing conversation piece to any home, and a remarkable find for any clock collector. When properly leveled and tested this clock operates well. It has been going strong for 24 hours now. It is running a tad fast, and will need adjustment to get it to keep perfect time. The deeply resonant (and somewhat foreboding) coiled gong sounds on the half hour and hour. (SEE VIDEO FOR EXAMPLE).The cast bronze front door opens and shuts securely. Original beveled glass is in excellent shape. It has a nice brass / copper colored rococo style sash. Sunk double porcelain dial is painted with black Arabic numberals. It is complete with original fancy hands and signed with the F. Kroeber Trademark Because we don’t know the service history of this clock, we highly recommend a good cleaning service oiling to ensure this extraordinary clock continues to work for many years to come.Pendulum and replacement key are included with this auction. The clock measures aprox 16” W x 14” H x 6” D. It is very heavy, weighing 18lb prior to any shipping materials, box, etc. Shipping price will reflect this. I do not profit at all from shipping - the price is calculated based on box dimensions and weight of item plus styrofoam, bubble wrap and any other packing material needed to deliver this antique clock safely to your home. Please view pics closely as they are part of my description and feel free to reach out to me with any questions prior to bidding. Thanks for looking!More Info About F. Kroeber CompanyFlorenz Friederick Martin Kroeber was born in1840 in the city of Paderborn, Westphalia, Germany. His early years were spentin the city of Cologne, but his parents brought their family to America aboutthe spring of 1850, settling in New York City. By the age of 19,"Florence" Kroeber began to work in the clock store of Owen &Clark at John Street as a bookkeeper. In 1861, Owen & Clark was dissolved butone of the partners, George B. Owen, continued the operation under his ownname. When Owen went to Winsted, Conn. to become general manager of W. L.Gilbert & Company in 1864, Florence Kroeber took over the Owen business. This was strictly a marketing operation, both of domestic and imported clocks, though labels with F. Kroeber were often applied. In 1868, Kroeber went into partnership withNicholas Mueller, a German immigrant who ran a business of producing bronzedcast metal figurines and figured metal clock case fronts. Two years laterKroeber married Mueller's daughter. Though the partnership lasted only about ayear, the two families had close business ties and even rented adjoining NewYork stores for many years.About 1870 Kroeber began to manufacture somecases of his own design and contracted with Connecticut manufacturers formovements, some to his own specifications. For over 25 years the operation wassuccessful. It was incorporated as the F. Kroeber Clock Company in 1887 andthat year a second New York store was opened in midtown Manhattan. Their 1888catalog of 208 pages illustrated 286 clocks and 43 figurines, over 90% ofAmerican manufacture Business began to decline with the depressionof 1893 and in 1895 the midtown store was closed. By 1898, their catalog of 115pages offered only 182 clocks and 31 figurines, with only about 80% beingAmerican made. In 1899 the corporation went into receivership. Kroeber movedinto a smaller store on Maiden Lane and spent about a year settling theaccounts of the company.Kroeber continued marketing clocks as aprivate venture under his own name, most being purchased from Connecticut Except for cuckoo clocks, foreign made clocks were no longer offered. Thisbusiness ended in bankruptcy in January, 1904 and because it was not acorporation, Kroeber was personally ruined. For the next seven years he workedas an employee in clock and watch departments of various New York firms. Hedied May 16, 1911 of tuberculosis. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
Antique 1868 Welch Spring and Co Calendar Mantle Clock ~ B.B Lewis Perpetual

Sold on eBay January 13th, 2024

Antique 1868 Welch Spring and Co Calendar Mantle Clock ~ B.B Lewis Perpetual

eBay See Photos. Comes from an immaculately clean nonsmoking home. In good condition. Wood shows obvious age with wood veneer issues along the bottom. Comes with key and pendulum, presumed to be original. Springs wind and keep load. Clock runs with manual stimulation as we cannot sort out how to attach the pendulum without taking the back off. We cannot speak to accuracy. No doubt it needs proper lubrication and servicing. The paper label on the inside that says Eight Day and One Day Brass Clocks Patented March 17, 1868, Manufactured and Sold by Welch, Spring & Co. Forestville, Conn. U.S.A.. Label on the back of the calendar states this is a B.B. Lewis Perpetual Calendar. Moving the calendar mechanism by hand works just fine. Likewise, manual stimulation shows that the chime works well. Top hinge is loose and thank goodness for the locking mechanism holds it firmly in place. We denote a few missing screws. Approx 20" x 12" x 5.5" deep @ 7.5 pounds.
