Antique 8-day wooden mantel clock manufactured by Welch Spring & Co from Forestville, Connecticut, as clearly shown by the label on the back reading "PATT V.P. WELCH SPRING & CO. FORESTVILLE CONN. U.S.A."This decorative timepiece features ornate carved wooden details with turned columns and finials on a stepped base. The clock face displays Roman numerals on a white dial with visible hands. Behind glass is a decorative brass pendulum with ornate architectural design and green accents.The wooden case shows rich patina with architectural details including carved columns, decorative bosses, and an elegant crown topper. This 8-day movement allows the clock to run for a full week between windings Historical Note: Welch Spring & Company was established in Forestville, Connecticut in 1868, formed when E.N. Welch purchased the bankrupt Forestville Manufacturing Company. The company was known for producing high-quality shelf and mantel clocks during America's golden age of clockmaking. Their "Patti" line of clocks was popular in the late 19th century, often featuring ornate cases and reliable movements. The company operated until 1903 when it was acquired by the Sessions Clock Company.This is a fine example of American clockmaking from this notable Connecticut manufacturer with its original detailed brass pendulum still intact.
