Currier was born in Hopkinton New Hampshire on May 4, 1793. He lived long and active life and died in Salem, Massachusetts on May 17, 1853.Edmund manufactured and repaired tools, wagons, sleighs and harness. He was also a fine clockmaker and repaired some watches. A small number of clocks are listed as being made in this New Hampshire location. Edmund moved from Hopkinton in 1825 to the corner of Essex and Central Streets in Salem, Massachusetts. The Mahogany Case is 26 1/2" Tall and 17 1/2" wide. Has a Beautiful Signed Iron Dial with Seconds Dial. Bottom glass is cracked. Looks original. Check out the amount of escapement wheel teeth! antique Alarm Banjo clock Joseph Dyar, Middlebury Vt. 1822
Selling a very rare Alarm Banjo clock made by Joseph Dyar Middlebury Vt. about 1825. Tablets are probably not original to the clock, but very nice. The name on the dial is light but readable Joseph Dyar Middlebury Vt. The outside lever on the alarm side looks to be a replacement but seems to be accurate for this movement. There are many weight driven banjo clocks but to get a Joseph Dyar with the alarm feature is very rare . I will ship the weight separately in order to protect the clock.I added some pictures of the movement, because a number of people wanted to see more details. hope this is able to help. also someone asked about a second weight for the alarm, both the alarm and the time is running off the same weight. hope this answers all the questions, if not please ask. Antique American Tall Case / Grandfather Clock c. 1825
A fine inlaid case and colorful dial are features of this clock along with the unique top door which opens not on the arch but the rectangle. I've seen this once before on a New England clock and I think that's the origin. The first 'tell' for American are the drums; they're smooth unlike the grooved UK clock drums. Then, the back boards are horizontal. And, the gold on American dials is almost luminous. Side-by-side it's easy to tell. James Cross Rochester New Hampshire 1825-1830 Weight Driven Banjo Wall Clock
This is a weight driven banjo clock attributed to James Cross of New Hampshire from around the 1830s. This is example is unsigned or the signature has deteriorated. The clock is running here, and is largely original. The clock will require setup and adjustment after shipping. The hands are thick blued steel and the glass is old and wavy. The reverse paintings are likely touched up or redone. I believe the eagle finial to be a replacement. This looks to be the original dial and the movement appears to be original to the case. I believe the clock to be a typical but rare example of James Cross
