Antique American Tall Case / Grandfather Clock c. 1825
Antique American Tall Case / Grandfather Clock c. 1825
SOLD $1,995.00 Sold: Jul 29, 2020 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
A fine inlaid case and colorful dial are features of this clock along with the unique top door which opens not on the arch but the rectangle. I've seen this once before on a New England clock and I think that's the origin. The first 'tell' for American are the drums; they're smooth unlike the grooved UK clock drums. Then, the back boards are horizontal. And, the gold on American dials is almost luminous. Side-by-side it's easy to tell. So the dial is original, the movement was just serviced ($395), and the finish on the case looks original to me. The turned feet are replacements. A reall
