MINT UNUSUAL RARE BLACK FOREST OLI ZINAPOLD CHALET CUCKOO CLOCK & WOODEN WEIGHTS
SOLD $289.99 Sold: Apr 24, 2025 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our other items! This is one of the most remarkable clocks you'll ever lay eyes upon and frankly, were it not for the cause listed below, it would remain in our home. The clock is a wonderful, unique creation of Oliver Zinapold, the head carver of the Master Carvers Club and shop owner of Oli's Schnitstube in the Black Forest of Triberg "Germany." "MCC" are the most sought after clocks to emerge from the Black Forest and this clock reflects all of that in style and outright quality. The clock is made completely of wood. Even the wolves in front of the chalet home are intricately carved from Black Forest wood. The clock is made to look very much like an old chalet like many still found in the Black Forest. The roof is actually wooden shakes and there are carved tapered eaves on both sides in front. And it works well here, keeps good time, cuckoos and chimes as it should, and has been well maintained already during its short life. It was probably created about 15 years ago and has a rare, stunning, blended nutwood and walnut finish. It's the perfect size too measuring about 10" high (not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6" at its deepest point, and about 8" or so at its widest point. The clock is carved the old world, high standard way from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The front is wood too and the windows and shutters are as well. There is a wooden balcony above the dial and tapered wooden trim is affixed underneath The wooden dial has a starburst wood backdrop and features easy to read, raised wooden Roman numerals to mark the hours. The hands are matching, hand carved fir trees to point out the time. The "MCC" logo and letters are found under the center. The lower balcony is thick and there is a carved piece mounted under it. There are wooden trees on either side of the case and simulated flora, brush, and grass affixed on both sides and in front too. There are two very detailed wood wolves in front as well. The back is wood too and secured with a single latch. It removes to allow access to the all metal, mechanical weight driven movement bearing the Germany point of origin and lettering certifying this clock has an "Original Black Forest Movement." A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. The wood bellow or whistle tubes are intact and the tops look good and make good sound. At the bottom of each hour, a colorful wood cuckoo bird opens the small wooden door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled chime inside the case and then retreats back inside and closes the door. The bird reappears at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current hour before going back inside the case and closing the door behind him; absolutely fascinating! Like I said, the clock works just fine here, keeps good time, and cuckoos well too. Keep in mind this is a lightly used clock, not a new one and it does work quite well here for a 15 year-old clock but clocks do require maintenance. We don't know the service history but the movement already show signs of past service. Nonetheless, we always advise our clock customers to service their vintage or antique clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a fancy, carved wood chalet pendulum, and two, heavy, carved wooden weights. I've looked the clock over fairly well and find little signs of use, no damage, and no missing parts. It is truly a breathtaking clock with a great old world look to it, and is just gorgeous on display! This clock is a wonderful look back at the greatness of Black Forest workmanship and is certain to capture the imagination of anyone seeing or hearing it in your home, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a magnificent, very rare, mechanical Black Forest timepiece with a solid history behind it.
