Vintage 1990's Congreve Rolling Ball Clock Kit - By Devon Clock Ltd. of England
SOLD $950.00 Sold: Mar 25, 2025 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
Listing is for a rare unbuild Congreve Rolling Ball Clock Kit made by Devon Clocks Limited of England. My late uncle purchased this kit back in 1995. He never started the build, but looks as though he went thru the kit when it arrived. All of the bags (which are labeled by built step) have been opened for inspection years ago. However, all parts were returned to their bags and resealed. Fortunately, each build step in the manual has a parts inventory for that particular step. I was able to go thru each bag and ensure that all parts for each step are indeed included. I can verify that the kit is complete. The pictures show that as I verified each part, I used a pink Hi-Lite marker to note the part as being accounted for...see pics. The kit includes all parts for the clock itself, glass and wood frame parts to build the case, build instructions, tool kit (furnished by Devon with purchase of the kit) and correspondence that was made between my uncle and the Devon Clocks Limited company, and any associated paperwork. All clock parts are packed in original foam trays and stacked within the original shipping box (with original postage still attached), as it was delivered from England to California (see pics). You will receive everything that was in the box when I discovered it among my uncle's belongings There are some things that I should note. First, this kit has been sitting for 30 years, so there are brass parts that will need to be polished. Additionally, the three main brass frames were originally labeled so that you could easily determine which was FRONT, MIDDLE or BACK...those labels had fallen off over the years...so the builder will need to be careful and attentive to detail so as not to mix the frames up during construction. Finally, the original instructions have illustrations related to the build that were printed very faint from the manufacturer so again, patience and attention will be required by the builder when using these drawings for assembly. I should also note, per the manufacturer's catalog information, that "natural variations in temperature, humidity and pressure, cause the ball to run at slightly different speeds. Therefore, as in Congreve's original, complete accuracy cannot be guaranteed".The first picture was taken from the manufacturer's literature, so that you can see what the clock will look like when complete. The remaining pictures show the parts trays with bagged & labeled parts, build manual, tools, paperwork and original box. This item is sold AS-IS, as described and photographed. I encourage the buyer to inspect the contents upon delivery to verify the parts themself taking great care when unwrapping parts to ensure that nothing becomes damaged. If a problem is detected, and I am notified within 3 DAYS of the DELIVERY DATE, I will arrange for a return. Anything discovered AFTER 3 DAYS and no refund or return will be available. By purchasing this item, the buyer agrees to these terms. In the event that a return is indeed required, all parts are to be returned to their correct bag, carefully packed within the trays, and the trays properly packed with the main box. In short, I should receive the kit exactly as I have sent it out. Failure to properly pack for return will void the offer of return.
