Waterbury "Catalena" Cast Iron Black Mantle Clock Waterbury "Catalena" Cast Iron Black Mantle Clock Description /This clock was made by The Waterbury Clock Company of Waterbury Connecticut. They were formed in 1873 famous for their pocketwatches, sold in 1944, but now known as Timex. The model name is Catalena. Included is a photo from the Montgomery catalog. 8 day Rack and Snail striking movement, on cathedral gong. Every half hour and on the hour strikes on the gong. The Rack and Snail movement is so you can go forward or backwards and the clock will stay in sync. On the movement is stamped Pat Nov 1st, 1881, and Waterbury with their early 5 point star logo. The dial is porcelain with one flaw between the 11th and 12th hour. Fancy black Arabic numerals. Open brass escapement with pierced filagree background and what appears to be two dragons in the background. Brass bezel that has beveled glass. The sides and bottom is adorned with brass filagree rosettes. On the bottom is a blank label... we could not find the make of this clock. I believe it to be fairly scarce. I have not seen this model before. Circa 1885. Dimensions are Height 10", Width 13", Depth 5", and Weight 15 lbs.
