Here is an attractive and rare antique gatehouse or railroad style "trumpeter" cuckoo clock with foliate grape vine carvings, in as found running condition, as pictured. This 30 hour clock measures about 20” tall plus weights and pendulum, so it adds a commanding presence to the collection. The cast brass pinned plate movement has the G.H.S. 5 , Gordian Hettich & Sohne manufacturers mark, powered by a matched pair of pine cone weights on heavy brass chains, with original pendulum , and strikes hours and half hours on wire gong while the 2 note trumpeter appears from behind double doors and sounds his horn. The clock is running well as seen in video but it should be noted that the clock is missing the top crest and the carved bone hands have a broken hour hand, and has some age associated wear, with a few separations to carvings as pictured. Other than that, the clock has been sitting in storage for thirty five years and will greatly benefit from a thorough cleaning of the dust and soils accumulated over the years. The movement is bone dry & needs oil but is running without complaint. The bellows leathers are older replacements as well and don't sound bad, but please judge for yourself from the video.. the two reeded tin “trumpets” are loud enough to hear through the house. Has original French style winding key, attractive original carved wood trumpeter with nicely painted surfaces. A great novelty clock for the advanced collector. This clock is from the seller's personal collection and is offered for sale for the first time in forty years, so it is fresh to the market.
