English grandfather clock brass dial movement @ 1770 Original Thomas Wagstaffe
SOLD $615.00 Sold: Oct 20, 2024 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
English grandfather longcase clock brass dial movement only @ 1770 by Thomas Wagstaffe, London. This great movement came with the American Chippendale walnut grandfather clock case, brass wrapped lead weights, weight pulleys, and pendulum that I also have for sale this week. Wagstaffe was a famous English Quaker clockmaker with connections in the Colonies. He had arrangements to ship his movements to the colonies, and be cased and sold here, mostly to Quaker families. Please see my other listings for other English and American grandfather clock items. Fantastic signed brass dial measures 12" wide x 16 1/2" tall. It's in good as found condition with a lot of patina to the brass. Dial is original to the movement with no extra holes anywhere. Hour and strike/silent hands are original, while the minute and seconds hands look to be old replacements. The 8 day two weight driven movement is complete and intact. Both gear trains go nicely with gentle finger pressure on each great wheel, and all of the drive parts for the calendar and strike/silent selection are present and functional. Original bell is intact and sounds wonderful. No pulleys. The original seatboard measures 14" wide x 4 3/4" deep x 3/4" thick. Please see my other auctions this week for other English and American grandfather clock items related to this great movement. I can combine multiple items to save on shipping cost. No reserve. UPS ground shipping in the continental USA will be $50.00 (Condition: Pre-Owned)
