American Chippendale walnut grandfather clock case @ 1770 Thomas Wagstaffe
American Chippendale walnut grandfather clock case @ 1770 Thomas Wagstaffe
SOLD $397.00 Sold: Oct 20, 2024 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
American Chippendale walnut longcase grandfather clock case only @ 1770 by Thomas Wagstaffe, London England. This American Chippendale walnut case came with the signed Wagstaffe, London brass dial movement, brass wrapped lead weights, weight pulleys, and pendulum that I also have for sale this week. Wagstaffe was a famous English Quaker clockmaker with connections in the Colonies. He had arrangements to ship his movements to the colonies, and be cased and sold here, mostly to Quaker families. Please see my other listings for other English and American grandfather clock items. This case measures 92" tall x 22 1/2" wide (at the top molding) x 10 1/2" deep. The dial surround in the bonnet measures 11 3/4" wide x 16 1/4" tall. The Chippendale solid walnut case is solid and good, but has had the trunk door replaced at some point relatively recently. The work is fairly good, but the color is a bit off, and the door has a 1/4" gap at the bottom of the opening. The case is very attractive with an applied paneled burl walnut base, fluted quarter columns in both the trunk and the base, original bracket feet, and dovetailed construction on the sides of the bonnet, but will need proper restoration to be a great case again. Bonnet door is original with original lock. The bottom board is replaced, but the bracket feet are original. This is a rare, deluxe case with a fantastic look by an esteemed Colonial clockmaker. Please see the photos attached for the complete description, and ask any questions you may have. No reserve. Free local pickup in Highland Park, Illinois. Shipping in the Eastern USA can be arranged by blanket wrap antique mover service, which I would estimate to be $300.00, depending on exact location. No shipping West of the Mississippi River is offered. I will also deliver this case to a 100 mile radius of Chicago for $100.00. Please message me for details. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
