CHIME CLOCK No. 77 – 1922 Offered today is this beautiful 102 year old Seth Thomas Chime Clock No. 77 that was produced in the year of 1922. The solid and ribbon mahogany case was cleaned only with mild cleaners and hand waxed. The lines of this model is simple but classy and the chocolate brown color case maintains its original shellac finish that has a nice crazing to it, and is in excellent condition with a few character marks as the pictures will show. Please zoom and enlarge the pictures to see the detail of this antique clock. This clock is very large and has all the best sought after features on it including a large 6 inch original silver dial that is in excellent condition. Large raised bronze Arabic numbers that can be seen from across the room with signature Seth Thomas bronze serpentine hour and minute hands to compliment the dial. The convex glass has small light scratches in it that is hardly noticeable but worth mentioning shown in picture 4 and the original finish machine clasp brass bezel opens and closes properly as it should. The original bob/leader and an original two-sided key come with the clock. A manual chime lock is inside of the case to prevent the chimes from rattling during transportation. The silent chime feature is hidden behind the front door sash at the 2 and the adjustment for fast or slow is at the 12. This old girl really shows and sounds beautifully. Everything on this clock is fully functional and tested for a minimum of two weeks to assure that the clock will operate consistently every day for the new owner and generations to follow. This is the third model of large mantel clocks Seth Thomas produced that came with the mammoth 113 movement. The smaller 124 movement came out the following year and eventually was the movement that replaced this larger 113 movement. The tempo of the Westminster chime with the 113 movement is much slower and deeper than the 124 movement. The leather hammer tips are in new condition so you can hear each quarter-hour beautifully chime on four Mayland chime rods. The first quarter-hour plays four notes. Eight notes on the half hour. 12 notes on the three quarter-hour, followed by the full 16 notes of the Westminster chime sequence at the top of each hour. After this sequence a fifth rod will be struck to mark the hour. I love the pause between the Westminster chime and the hour strike and how the strike note beat demands your attention. The Mayland chime rods are by far the most resonant and most pleasing to the ear sound that I have ever heard. The movement has been completely rebuilt by me and weighing in at over 5 pounds it is definitely engineered to stand the test of time. This movement comes with double clicks instead of single clicks on the winding arbors. The 3 springs were inspected, cleaned and lubed for a consistent power to the trains throughout the week. This 3 train movement is equipped with a self adjusting lever that will automatically adjust to the correct chime sequence at the top of the hour when the quarter-hour chimes are accidentally activated (moving the minute hand forward and activating the chime then moving the minute hand back for example). What I do to ensure you are buying a quality clock from me. Ø Disassemble the entire clock myself completely. Ø Install Seth Thomas parts only on the movement as needed. Ø Install high quality Burgeon bronze bushings instead of brass in all worn pivot holes as needed. Ø Polish all pivots. Ø Clean the entire movement ultrasonically. Ø Reassemble the clock movement, oil and lube in the proper places. Ø Clean the original dial or have it sent out to have it professionally silvered and restored to Seth Thomas dial specifications. Ø Clean the case on the outside and inside, the bezel, all parts and chime rods with mild cleaners by hand careful to keep the integrity of the clock. Ø Apply a coat of the finest wax to the outside of the case by hand. Ø Adjust chime and strike hammer sequence properly to assure smooth and even strikes at each quarter-hour and hour. Ø Electronically regulate the beat and adjust the speed while the clock is level to ensure accuracy for many generations. Ø Inspect and adjust every minor detail of the clock assuring full function and peak performance for many years to come. Ø Test the clock for a minimum of two weeks to ensure peak and proper performance for the new owner. Ø Smoke free, pet free home. All clocks are cleaned removing odors. Ø Instructions for set up provided to the new owner with a contact number for on-going support and discounted maintenance and/or repair for your clock.
