Antique Winterhalder & Hofmeier Bracket Clock Time & Strike Movement Not Running Strikes as Expected Item Description Here is a great unique Winterhalder & Hofmeier Bracket Clock with Wood Case and Beveled Glass in running condition for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it This fine antique mantel clock is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a high end auction house or clock shop. We have been selling clocks out of our home for over 35 years. We are therefore better positioned to control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the high end auction houses and clock shops experience. The clock dates to the 1910 period from what we have researched online. Check out the beautiful oak wood case on this clock. The case is all intact, with the exception of the one leg that is missing. Some minor finish loss to the case. The rear wood door is in place as is the latch mechanism. 3 of the 4 feet are also still in place on the clock case. The case shows some finish loss. The clock face is gold colored with incised black numbers. Nice looking elegantly designed hands that are black and look appropriate to the clock. The bezel is securely attached to the case by the hinge. The glass in the bezel is intact, no cracking or blistering. The movement looks good. The two wind springs feel sound when keyed. The movement has not been serviced or cleaned, we are selling it the way we found it. The clock will come with a wind key. The pendulum is with the clock. The bob is coming apart a little where the bob meets the rod. The clock strikes as expected when the hands are advance manually.We are selling this clock in not running, but striking condition at this juncture, no warranty intended. There is no representation that the clock is in original condition, or will continue to be in working order. The clock has a strike unit. The clock strikes once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hours. This is a wire gong unit. The Winterhalder & Hofmeier Clock stands 10-3/16" tall, by 8-3/16" across, by 6" wide. Some information about the clock and Hofmeier (clocks) goes back to Winterhalder Uhrenfabrik in the Black Forest, a clock manufacturer from 1810. It was further manifested from 1850 under the new name Winterhalder & Hofmeier. In 1869 the company was renamed M. Winterhalder & Hofmeier, Friedenweiler und Schwaerzenbach, in Neustadt. From 1908 the new name was M. Winterhalder & Hofmeier GmbH. The company was part of the Black Forest clockmaker industry as its factory was located in Titisee Neustadt and surroundings and as it subscribed to high quality standards. The company existed until 1933 (A Jewish owned company put out of business by Hitler's Nazi Germany). W&H is regarded as one of the finest Victorian clockmakers of the time.As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art.
