Antique Gustave Serrurier Bovy Secessionist Arts & Crafts Mantel Clock Nouveau
SOLD $2,499.99 Sold: Mar 5, 2024 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
Antique Gustave Serrurier Bovy Secessionist Arts & Crafts Mantel Clock Nouveau. Circa 1900 Brass & Wood Secessionist Mantel Clock designed by Gustave Serrurier Bovy (1858–1910). Bovy is credited as the father of Art Nouveau. This is a very rare clock. The clock has a decidedly Arts & Crafts appeal rather than Art Nouveau. The clockworks are only marked with a series of numbers, “153/39” and “150.” This oak bodied & brass clock comes with its original pendulum and key. It’s a bit hard to tell with the lighting in the photos but there is a glass window towards the bottom of the clock face that allows the pendulum to be seen swinging. When the previous owner wound the clock, it did not work. When they advanced the keys, the chimes did strike on the bell at the top on the hour and half hour. I have not touched the clock since. There is some very light wear to the brass bottom right and a tiny wood chip to the front left foot. This antique Gustave Serrurier Bovy Clock is in original condition with no restorations. For any collector of GSB designed work this is an excellent opportunity. I’d imagine that any competent clock repair shop will be able to get it in working order for you. As is it’s an incredibly handsome addition to your favorite room. Ships ASAP! Thanks Free Boston pickup available.
