Tall Case Chippendale Grandfather Clock, circa 1793, original antique clock
Tall Case Chippendale Grandfather Clock, circa 1793, original antique clock
SOLD $1,650.00 Sold: Jan 20, 2024 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
eBay Please read entire listing before bidding.Listed here is an original Chippendale mahogany 8-day tall case grandfather clock dated 1793 on the inside door. The clock is roughly 95 inches tall and is about 95% original. The wood has noticeable shrinkage and warping, along with some shrinkage cracks due to age, a very common, and expected condition to find 230 year old wood in, giving credence to its authenticity. The dial of the clock as you can see in the photos has some finish/enamel loss and discoloration due to age. The clock does work however, I don’t use it to keep time and for the most part, do not keep it running with the intent to preserve the mechanical works. It has the original weight driven clockworks made by Osbourne Manufactory out of England. I replaced the brass cable inside, the pendulum rod, and added a 5 inch reproduction brass bell inside. Unfortunately, eBay does not host videos or I would post a video to show it working. The clock will gong the brass bell on the hour, however, the clock is missing the Westminister chime mechanism. You will notice there are three key holes for winding the clock, however, only two arbors and two weights. This is because the third arbor and the third weight would have driven that Westminster chime mechanism. Also, the moon dial and calendar wheel do not rotate as there is an intermediate gear that was removed at some point in the past. The clock exhibits its age and wear, and I have long appreciated it but it's time (no pun intended) to let someone else enjoy this exquisite piece! The clock is located in Oneida, New York (USA) and local pickup will have to be arranged as I will not ship it or crate it. Thank you for your consideration. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
Note: This item has been sold and is no longer available. This page serves as a historical price reference for clocks collectors and appraisers.
