Early Boston Clock Co. /8 Day /Weight Wall Regulator/ Cherry/ Movt. Serial # 20
SOLD $1,600.00 Sold: Nov 15, 2023 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
eBay This is an early Boston Clock Co. Cherry Wall Regulator in as found condition. I've only seen a couple of examples of this in 40+ years in the business and could only find a couple of examples on the Web as well. The only thing I've done is to go through the Movt. to make sure it was in good shape , running and timing as it does well. The main reason I didn't go further is that most of us like them in this condition so the nest guy can determine what he wants to do with it. It's only original once so that the way I'm selling it. The dial is original paint and has yellowed a bit with a couple of scrapes but as I said it's original. Signed " W.E. Hadlock" who was a Boston Clockmaker Dealer in his own right. Skinners sold an example like this in April of 2015 and I'm including a link to that auction so you can compare the 2. https: www skinnerinc com auctions 2804M lots 78 . The Glasses are both original and the bottom has had some touchup but it's still very presentable. If you look close you'll notice below the center pend. view it looks like a heart was there and painted over. All the original examples of this clock with the original glass have got the same thing. Looks like they changed their minds on the design before release. You'll notice Skinners example has the same . Original pend with nice damascened design is original and very nice. It has been repaired near the top and is sturdy. This has got production numbers all over the place as the case is stamped 24 on the case, bottom door and top bezel. The Movt. is stamped 20 on the front plate and the bridge. Skinners clock was stamped 48 so they are pretty close. I've included a pic.of the inside bottom door label ( Top Left) which is part of the mystery with all these production numbers. Can barley make it out and it looks like someone has gone over it but it looks like it says movt.? 32 , Style? 5 Case 135 and a date of 3/?/80 . The back of the case is marked style 7, case 203 . The Pend. Keystone is stamped 17 . Now perhaps the early Boston clocks were like this I don't know but everything I can see looks 100% correct here so If any of you guy's know better please let me know and I'll post it for all to see. Posted a lot of pics so you'll know what your bidding on. This is a very heavy clock being solid cherry and weight driven but I'll do the best I can with shipping costs. Any Questions please feel free to ask. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
