SOLD $1,268.00 Sold: Sep 19, 2023 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
Vintage Daneker Grandfather Clock President Model Westminster, St. Michael & Whittington Chimes Cherry Wood CaseRunning, Chiming & Striking Item Description Nice looking Vintage Daneker Grandfather Clock to add to your home or office charm. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! This fine Grandfather Clock is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a high end auction house or clock shops. We have been selling fine items out of our home for over 35 years. We are therefore better positioned to control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don't have the overhead that the higher end houses and clock shops pass on to their clients. The clock dates to the latter 1970s based upon what we see with the clock and movement. The clock was made by the Daneker Clock Company that once operated in Fallston, MD. This is considered the President model. The plate normally inside the pendulum part of the case noting that is no longer there. This clock case is made of cherry and is in very good shape. Very little surface marking on the case. The clock is currently striking the hours on the hour. Fan for that part of movement just needed some clock oil. Does one of the three chime options, depending upon which one selected, every 15 minutes including on the hour. The strike is done by 4 strike hammers and the chime's sound is done by 8 separate strike hammers. This clock is being sold in running, chiming condition, and striking condition at this juncture. This clock is called a grandfather or tall case clock, as it is more than 73" tall. The stained cherry case on this clock looks very good. The case has a great design on the front of the case. Great columns with brass accents on the hood on both sides and back of the clock face and movement. The scrolling on the top of the clock and the hinges are in place and all look proper to the clock. Beautiful hood on this clock. The door is securely attached to the hood by the hinges. The brass finial topper is in place. There are side doors on the clock, so that you can open and get even a louder sound when the clock chimes, if you prefer.Again, all the wood and trim is still with the clock. The glass in the doors over the face, the pendulum. No cracking or blistering. The door hinges on both doors are sound and securely attached to the case. The lock latch for the pendulum door is there, operates and the key is there. The four legs for leveling adjustment are on the bottom of the case. This movement appears to have been with this clock case since made. Has a date of January 1979 noted on the back plate. The Daneker's clock movement was made by Urgos, a German company. The clock has a good beat to the movement with the pendulum and the time weight in place. The clock has a Westminster, St. Michael & Whittington chimes unit. This movement has a lunar dial and was made in West Germany. This clock is weight driven with chains. The clock is running as expected. The clock does chime and strike appropriately when expected. Someone put 2 balsa wood strips at top of movement that run from the back of the face to the front of the wood case back. Not sure what for, but left in place. The clock is in running, chiming, and striking condition at this juncture. We recently acquired this clock and have not serviced the movement.Nice lacquer finish on the outer shells of the weights. Some minor finish loss to the weight shells. No ding or dents to the weight shells. The chains the weights appear to be in good condition. The strike hammers and rods all look to be in good shape. Nice wood pendulum rod with gold colored bob on it. The bob's finish shows some very minor loss. We see no repairs or other indicators that would say these pieces are not proper to this clock as well. Great looking movement and clock face on this clock. The face shows no tarnishing or finish loss. The clock has a silver colored metal clock face on it with black roman numerals. There then is nice looking detailing surrounding the face. The large clock face is 9.25" across. The clock also has a very nice looking lunar dial on it. Has sailing ship, moon, and deer images on it. The elegant clock hands are black, match, and are appropriate to the clock. The clock also comes with the original paperwork in a Daneker envelope which is somewhat uncommon. The clock is too delicate and heavy for shipping safely via normal shipping options, so this clock is for local pick-up, via your shipper or delivery by me within 200 miles of Georgetown, DE. Buyer is welcome to make their own packing and shipping arrangements as well. Our customers also use a couple of blanket ship companies (we would pack out the inside of the clock in this situation, rest would be your carrier's responsibility) You need to understand a blanket ship company can take 6-8 weeks to deliver an item. We can also put you in contact with our local Fedex/UPS company for packing shipping assistance. We will also offer to deliver the clock to within 200 miles of Georgetown, DE one way. We would charge $.70 per mile for the round trip delivery plus any tolls/parking fees. That offer is for delivery only. If you want us to set the clock up (strike rod adjustment, weights, and leveling of clock on wall), that would be an additional $100. Should we agree to deliver this clock to you, and you decide to return the item, for whatever reason, such delivery charges are not refundable. The clock stands 78.5" tall by finial (77.5" w/0 finial), by 19.0" across, by 11.25" wide. Sorry, the other items that can be seen in some pics, and other items not described in this listing are not included. Only the Daneker Grandfather Clock described here is what is offered for sale. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description. As can be expected when dealing with a vintage clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate.
