1850s Antique J.C BROWN Eight Day Mantle Clock Frosted Glass Rare FORESTVILLE Co
SOLD $1,275.00 Sold: Sep 29, 2023 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
I am pleased to offer this antique J.C. Brown 8-Day mantle clock with a frosted glass door, 4-post steeple design & dark ripple wood. The paper label inside says Patent Applied for Sept. 4th, 1848. It also says Manufactured and sold by the Forestville Manufacturing Company. J. C. Brown…Bristol Conn.I do not know much about antique clocks, specifically how to test to see if it’s in working condition. I am happy to follow any specific instructions to test it, just send me a message. The wooden case is still in nice condition, especially for its age. The main area I need to point out is on one of the 4 posts. The back left post does have some damage towards its tip. This can best be seen in the last photo. Also, please look at the point on the very top of the clock , the highest point, and look towards the backside as this spot also has some slight damage. This can best be seen in the next to last photo. The rest of the woodwork is still very nice with no major damage or chips. The round glass and square frosted glass are still nice with no chips or cracks. They look original but I cannot be sure of that since the clock was purchased at an estate sale. I took a few photos of the dial and the paper label inside so you can see their condition. There is a minute hand and second hand. Again, not sure if any of these are the original parts or replacements There is a little metal latch that twists and is supposed to keep the door closed but I could not get it to latch and didn’t want to force it so some adjustments may be needed. Let me know if you need a photo of this. The highest measurement is approximately 20”. The base measures approximately 11.5” by 3.75”.I could only upload 24 photos but am happy to send more photos upon request. The clock comes with everything shown. There are two keys, a pendulum, and a few papers that was with the clock.SHIPPING- The clock will be double boxed and fully insured. First, it will be packed and protected in the box that is shown in the photos. It is a perfect fit and has styrofoam inside to keep it from shifting. I will add extra protection around the 4 posts and on the frosted glass. Next, I will wrap this box in bubble wrap, then place it inside a larger sturdy box that will also have padding inside. It will be clearly marked FRAGILE in multiple places with red stickers. Due to the size of the exterior box (34”x21”x12”) the USPS charges extra for shipping. If you happen to end up paying more than the actual cost of shipping & insurance, I will refund the difference. If you happen to pay less than the actual cost of shipping, I will pay the difference. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
