It is fashioned out of two slabs of either alabaster or marble. The pair of gilded mermaids have a wonderful patina without paint loss or damage. The clock retains its original green felt on the underside, largely intact.With regard to condition: There is a chip depression at the right top side of the square and a small flea bite to the right bevele
