Rare Antique Jerome "Thin Movement" Wood Works Shelf Clock
Rare Antique Jerome "Thin Movement" Wood Works Shelf Clock. Made by Jeromes (Chauncey and Noble) & Darrow. 30-hour time and hourly strike. Wood movement is complete with no broken teeth. This movement was not produced for long, as the Terry type and the groaner type superseded it and were cheaper to make. I have only seen three of these in my 45 years of clock collecting The case is in nice shape, as is the painted wood dial. Antique Pillar & Scroll Shelf Clock c. 1830
A good running P&S with old finish, glass, and tablet. The dial has well done touchups where the paint flaked off horizontally (common) and the finals are replacements. The label has loss so no name is visible but the eagle and "Patent Clocks" are visible and those are typical of Eli Terry Clocks so my guess is it's a Terry. Samuel and Eli Terry Pillar and Scroll Shelf Clock, Circa 1820s, Beautiful!
This is a gorgeous circa 1820-30 pillar and scroll clock made in Connecticut by Samuel and Eli Terry..It is complete except for one of the weights (the previous owner is searching for it) and even without the weight it will run and keep time for a couple of minutes, so I believe that when properly set up it will be a gem of a running clock. The winding keys and pendulum seem original. and the only flaw I noticed was somewhat by accident when seeing the dust indise as I took the picture I noticed something in the lower corner of the glass, beneath the little sailboat. It appears to have had a crack in the glass professionally repaired, and when I looked it before buying I couldn't even see it. I took several pictures of the exact place where it is, but it is almost impossible to see. There are no obvious repairs to the piece except for what looks like an attempt to strengthen the back where the works are mounted with a piece of mahogany plywood. All in all this is a fine example of a famous makers signature clock. I will give the utmost attention to packaging this lovely clock, and please read my feedback regarding that. The weight and finials may arrive in a separate box. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
