FULLY AND PROPERLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS NO. 30 REGULATOR WEIGHT DRIVEN CLOCK Offered for sale is a fully and properly restored Seth Thomas No. 30 Regulator weight driven wall clock. This clock is shown as Item 962 on page 306 of Ly’s Seth Thomas book. It lists 1909 as the date of manufacture and a 2005 value of $4500. The clock case is in great condition and the clock still has the original wavy glass. The downside of the clock is that the weight is a replacement and the original dial had to be professionally redone due to extensive damage. The clock shows well but you need to be aware that the clock has had work done to it to restore it to its present condition. The identical clock just sold at the Schmitt Horan auction house for $2000 and the buyer paid a 25% premium for a $2500 total. I would also point out that the clock that sold at auction also had a redone dial and did not have a fully serviced movement. The movement in my clock has been completely serviced with all pivots polished, all holes properly burnished, and the cable replaced. Case dimensions are 49 inches tall by 19 inches wide by 8 inches deep. Please examine the 11 pictures carefully as they provide a detailed description of this fine timepiece. WHAT MAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE? The rules of economics are fairly straightforward Simply put, it is almost impossible to spend a little and get a lot. Antique and vintage clocks follow these rules as well. You can buy “As Found” clocks for less money. Then you have to pay a shop to go through the movement and when you are done, you have spent more than if you would have bid on the nicer clocks in the beginning. I have tried through the photos to show the basic steps that I do in restoring these wonderful machines to their original state. My goal is to provide you with a quality time piece that will provide enjoyment and be a source of pride in your home for years to come. Equally important to me is to provide you with a clock that I believe will retain its value over the years. That is what I think constitutes real value in antique and vintage clocks. MY PHILOSOPHY ON CLOCKS AND CLOCK MOVEMENTS. The only way to properly repair a movement is to completely disassemble, clean and inspect all parts, and make the needed repairs by proper horoligical methods. This includes the rebushing of all worn holes and the polishing of any rough pivots. The movements are then reassembled, lubricated with a high-quality clock oil and test run for 8 days. This is a very time intensive process but is the only correct way to properly recondition a clock movement. You should expect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten years trouble-free. I have been doing clock repair for over 36 years. I apprenticed under an Oregon State licensed repairman and have been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) since 1981. I do not make a living doing this; it has become a passion of mine. I go to estate sales, auctions, and search places like eBay and Craigslist to find clocks that are in need of restoration. Once they are made like new mechanically, I put them up for sale in the hopes of paying for my materials and upgrading my personal collection. You will have to remove the dial and the hands to be able to rehang the pendulum. FULLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS SHIP’S CHRONOMETER LEVER NO. 12 Offered for sale is a Seth Thomas Ship’s Chronometer. This one is Lever No. 12 and it is shown in Ly’s Seth Thomas book, third edition. It is item 2672 on page 780. It lists 1920 as the date of manufacture and gives $3500 for the value of a 12-inch dial chronometer. This chronometer measures 11.75 inches across with a 10” dial so the value is somewhat less. I used recent auction sales prices during my research and found clocks of this value selling for around $1000 with the buyer’s premium. The case is solid cast brass and the clock was built for the Crosby Steamgage and Valve Company and was most likely used in a steam plant or the engine room of a ship. Seth Thomas supplied these clocks to many companies, as well as the US Military. I have a copy of a photo of these clocks in service on a U.S. Navy vessel that I will send along with the clock. This model is shown in Ly’s New Haven book on page 59. It is shown as item 188 and gives a date of manufacture of 1911. The case measures 44 inches tall and the clock has an 8-inch dial. The clock’s size is impressive, it is the same size as the E. Howard No. 2 Banjo. The movement has been completely serviced with all pivots polished and all holes properly burnished. The reverse painted glass is as perfect as you will ever find and the original label is in good condition. The brass bezel has been cleaned and polished and the brass side rails were cleaned, polished and then properly sealed with lacquer. This clock has been in my personal collection for quite a while but we are thinking about downsizing and I have been asked to “thin the herd” in preparation for the move. "WILLARD" MODEL 30 DAY TIME ONLY BANJO CLOCK FULLY RESTORED Offered for sale is a very nice New Haven Willard 30 double spring time only banjo clock with a fully and properly restored movement. This model is shown in Ly’s New Haven book on page 59. It is shown as item 188 and gives a date of manufacture of 1911. The case measures 44 inches tall and the clock has an 8-inch dial. The clock’s size is impressive, it is the same size as the E. Howard No. 2 Banjo. The entire clock was disassembled and every part and every screw cleaned. The movement has been completely serviced with all pivots polished and all holes properly burnished. I went as far as to cover the reverse painted tablets with a heavy card stock to protect them from damage. The clock was purchased at an estate sale from the family of the original owners. Please examine the high-resolution pictures carefully as they provide a detailed description of this fine timepiece. WHAT MAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE? The rules of economics are fairly straightforward Simply put, it is almost impossible to spend a little and get a lot. Antique and vintage clocks follow these rules as well. You can buy “As Found” clocks for less money. Then you have to pay a shop to go through the movement and when you are done, you have spent more than if you would have bid on the nicer clocks in the beginning. I have tried through the photos to show the basic steps that I do in restoring these wonderful machines to their original state. My goal is to provide you with a quality time piece that will provide enjoyment and be a source of pride in your home for years to come. Equally important to me is to provide you with a clock that I believe will retain its value over the years. That is what I think constitutes real value in antique and vintage clocks. MY PHILOSOPHY ON CLOCKS AND CLOCK MOVEMENTS. The only way to properly repair a movement is to completely disassemble, clean and inspect all parts, and make the needed repairs by proper horoligical methods. This includes the rebushing of all worn holes and the polishing of any rough pivots. The movements are then reassembled, lubricated with a high-quality clock oil and test run for 8 days. This is a very time intensive process but is the only correct way to properly recondition a clock movement. You should expect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten years trouble-free. I have been doing clock repair for over 42 years. I apprenticed under an Oregon State licensed repairman and have been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) since 1981. I do not make a living doing this; it has become a passion of mine. I go to estate sales, auctions, and search places like eBay and Craigslist to find clocks that need restoration. Once they are made like new mechanically, I put them up for sale in the hopes of paying for my materials and upgrading my personal collection. FULLY PROPERLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS 4 BELL SONORA CHIME CLOCK ADAMANTINE CASE

eBay FULLY AND PROPERLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS 4 BELL SONORA CHIME CLOCK ADAMANTINE CASE Offered for sale in this auction is a very nice and fully restored Seth Thomas four bell Sonora Chime Westminster chime mantel clock. This model, Chime Clock No. 1, is shown in Ly’s Seth Thomas book on page 149. It is listed as item 374 and gives a date of manufacture of 1911. This clock will play the Westminster Chime on the quarter hour on four large 3.25-inch Sonora bells that are the largest bells that Seth Thomas offered in any of the Sonora Chime clocks. The clock plays Westminster Chime on these bells and then strikes out the hours on the 4th bell. I can only describe the sound as incredible and this is one of the few four bell clocks that I have owned that has comes with the large bells. I have attached a file so that you can hear for yourself. The Adamantine finish is in great condition with the usual dimples that come with an item of this vintage. The five-inch porcelain dial is as close to perfect as you will find. The clock comes with both the original pendulum bob and an original Seth Thomas key. The clock has the 89 M movement for the time and strike and the 90 movement for the chime. Both movements have highly polished back plates and have been restored to a like-new condition using the proper restoration methods. The clock also has the Chime-Silent lever that allows you to turn off the quarter hour chime from the side of the clock. The clock will still strike out the hours in the silent mode. I ask you to please examine the high-resolution pictures carefully as they provide much of the description for this fine timepiece. Case dimensions are 13.5 inches tall, 15.25 inches wide and 7 inches deep. WHAT ARE SONORA CHIMES? From 1909 through 1923, Seth Thomas offered Sonora Chime clocks. These clocks have two separate movements, one for time and strike and another movement to play the Westminster quarter hour chimes on a patented set of bells. These clocks were expensive, with the four and five bell clocks costing a week’s wages for the average worker. Because of the cost, these clocks were usually only found in the homes of the more affluent people. The clocks have a beautiful sound that many consider superior to clocks that strike on rods. In the final years of production, Seth Thomas used rods instead of bells in some models to save money. Still, most collectors only consider the clocks with bells to be true Sonora Chime. ABOUT THE MEANING OF ADAMANTINE Adamantine means unbreakable, sturdy or hard wearing. The Celluloid Manufacturing Company of New York developed and patented this early form of plastic in 1880, and Seth Thomas soon after acquired the rights to the material. Celluloid was the first thermoplastic and was made by combining nitrocellulose with camphor. It can take on many colors with the addition of dyes and other agents. Molding and shaping are easily accomplished, so it could imitate more expensive materials such as stone or ivory. JUNGHANS WESTMINSTER CHIME BRACKET CLOCK WITH FULLY RESTORED MOVEMENT For your consideration is an impressive German made Junghans Westminster chime bracket clock. The case style is Architectural Edwardian era with egg and dart moldings and Corinthian columns. The movement is marked A07 which means that it was made in the first half of 1907. Case measures 19 inches tall by 12.75 inches wide by 8.5 inches deep. The dial is in nice condition and when you open the door, you will find that there are also two sub-dials that allow you to silence the chimes but not the strike from the front of the clock and regulate the speed of the clock. Glass is beveled and in good condition. The clock plays the Westminster Chime of 4 notes at quarter after, 8 notes at half past, 12 notes at quarter till, and then the full sixteen notes at the top of the your and then strikes out the hours on the longest of the five chime rods that sounds like a church bell. A video is attached that allows you to hear the beautiful tone of this clock. The movement has been completely restored using the proper horological repair methods. FULLY AND PROPERLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS No. 50 WESTMINSTER CHIME MANTEL CLOCK Up for sale is a very nice Seth Thomas No. 50 tambour case mantel clock with Westminster chimes. The original gilding on the bezel is perfect, the beveled glass is original to the clock and everything that I see is as if the clock was put away and never used. The case is made of mahogany with walnut burl inserts below the dial. The original finish is in very good condition and the silvered dial show very little wear. The clock also has the original pendulum and the original winding key. The clock plays Westminster Chimes every 15 minutes and then strikes out the hours on a lower tone rod that sounds like a church bell. I have attached a video of the clock so that you can hear the chimes for yourself. Inside the clock is a chime rod locking device that will protect the chime rods from being damaged during shipment. This clock is shown in Ly’s Seth Thomas book on page 177 of volume 1, item 475. This guide gives a date of manufacture of 1930. Case measurements are 20.5 inches long by 9.75 inches high by 5.5 inches deep. Please examine the high-resolution pictures closely to see all of the details of this fine time piece, it truly is a very nice clock. SETH THOMAS 124 WESTMINSTER CHIME MOVEMENT. Seth Thomas developed the 124 movement in the 1920’s to be able to get a Westminster chime movement into the smaller clock cases. The movement proved so popular that it was made up until the late 1950’s. The movement has three separate springs that run the time, chime, and striking functions and is fully self correcting If the clock runs completely down and the chiming sequence gets off, simply wind the clock back up and restart it. Within two hours, the clock will reset itself. This clock plays the chime on the four shorter rods and strikes out the hours on the fifth rod. The tone of this clock is absolutely beautiful, the hour strike sounds like a low-toned bell. WHAT MAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE? The rules of economics are fairly straightforward Simply put, it is almost impossible to spend a little and get a lot. Antique and vintage clocks follow these rules as well. You can buy “As Found” clocks for less money. Then you have to pay a shop to go through the movement and when you are done, you have spent more than if you would have bid on the nicer clocks in the beginning. I have tried through the photos to show the basic steps that I do in restoring these wonderful machines to their original state. My goal is to provide you with a quality time piece that will provide enjoyment and be a source of pride in your home for years to come. Equally important to me is to provide you with a clock that I believe will retain its value over the years. That is what I think constitutes real value in antique and vintage clocks. MY PHILOSOPHY ON CLOCKS AND CLOCK MOVEMENTS. The only way to properly repair a movement is to completely disassemble, clean and inspect all parts, and make the needed repairs by proper horoligical methods. This includes the rebushing of all worn holes and the polishing of any rough pivots. The movements are then reassembled, lubricated with a high-quality clock oil and test run for 8 days. This is a very time intensive process but is the only correct way to properly recondition a clock movement. You should expect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten years trouble-free. I have been doing clock repair for over 43 years. I apprenticed under an Oregon State licensed repairman and have been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) since 1981. I do not make a living doing this; it has become a passion of mine. I go to estate sales, auctions, and search places like eBay and Craigslist to find clocks that are in need of restoration. Once they are made like new mechanically, I put them up for sale in the hopes of paying for my materials and upgrading my personal collection. While everyone calls these schoolhouse clocks, the official name in the Seth Thomas book is 12 Inch Drop Octagon clock. The clock has a fully and properly restored Model 41 movement. This clock is shown in Ly’s Seth Thomas book on page 357, item 1161, and gives a listed value of $400. Seth Thomas made these clocks for over 50 years, starting around 1879 until the start of World War 2. The date of manufacture of this clock is October of 1884, the date of manufacture is stenciled on the back of the clock. The clock has been refinished, the brass bezel has been polished and the dial was replaced to match the desires of the former owner who was a model train collector. The movement has been fully serviced and the clock shows no damage beyond the ordinary wear that you should expect to see on an item that is over 140 years old. I ask you to please examine the 12 high resolution pictures carefully as they provide much of the description for auction item. Case dimensions are 18 inches wide and 24 inches high and the clock has a 12-inch dial. Clock comes complete with the original pendulum and a proper fitting winding key. FULLY RESTORED SETH THOMAS BLACK ADAMANTINE MANTEL CLOCK, LYONS MODEL Offered for sale in this auction is a nice Seth Thomas black Adamantine mantel clock. This clock features the patented Seth Thomas Adamantine finish. This is a celluloid finish that in the catalogs is described this way; “the finish is very durable and cannot be scratched or dented by any ordinary usage”. The clock has a fully and properly restored model 89 C movement, one of the many models of 89 movements that were the workhorses of the Seth Thomas line for over 30 years. The Lyons model is shown in Ly’s Seth Thomas book on page 452 as item 1482. The clock is listed with a manufacture date of 1915 and a value of $375. The clock also has the model name faintly written in red pencil on the bottom of the case and a perfect original label on the back of the clock. This clock strikes the hour on a coil gong and the half-hour on a brass bell. This makes it easy, without seeing the clock, to know if it is striking the half-hour or the hour. A video of the clock striking is attached. The finish is in good condition as are the metal trim pieces and the dial. This clock has three columns on each side of the dial, many collectors consider that to be more desirable and thus, makes the clock more valuable. I ask you to please examine the high-resolution pictures carefully and listen to the video of the clock striking as they provide much of the description for this fine timepiece. Case dimensions are 16 inches wide, 12.5 inches high and 6.5 inches deep. Clock comes complete with the original pendulum and a proper fitting winding key. ABOUT THE MEANING OF ADAMANTINE Adamantine means unbreakable, sturdy or hard wearing. The Celluloid Manufacturing Company of New York developed and patented this early form of plastic in 1880, and Seth Thomas soon after acquired the rights to the material. Celluloid was the first thermoplastic and was made by combining nitrocellulose with camphor. It can take on many colors with the addition of dyes and other agents. Molding and shaping are easily accomplished, so it could imitate more expensive materials such as stone or ivory. Many people use the word incorrectly, only Seth Thomas had the right to use this material on their clock cases. WHAT MAKES A CLOCK A GOOD VALUE? The rules of economics are fairly straightforward Simply put, it is almost impossible to spend a little and get a lot. Antique and vintage clocks follow these rules as well. You can buy “As Found” clocks for less money. Then you have to pay a shop to go through the movement and when you are done, you have spent more than if you would have bid on the nicer clocks in the beginning. I have tried through the photos to show the basic steps that I do in restoring these wonderful machines to their original state. My goal is to provide you with a quality time piece that will provide enjoyment and be a source of pride in your home for years to come. Equally important to me is to provide you with a clock that I believe will retain its value over the years. That is what I think constitutes real value in antique and vintage clocks. MY PHILOSOPHY ON CLOCKS AND CLOCK MOVEMENTS. The only way to properly repair a movement is to completely disassemble, clean and inspect all parts, and make the needed repairs by proper horoligical methods. This includes the rebushing of all worn holes and the polishing of any rough pivots. The movements are then reassembled, lubricated with a high-quality clock oil and test run for 8 days. This is a very time intensive process but is the only correct way to properly recondition a clock movement. You should expect a movement repaired in this manner to run for ten years trouble-free. I have been doing clock repair for over 43 years. I apprenticed under an Oregon State licensed repairman and have been a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) since 1981. I do not make a living doing this; it has become a passion of mine. I go to estate sales, auctions, and search places like eBay and Craigslist to find clocks that need restoration. Once they are made like new mechanically, I put them up for sale in the hopes of paying for my materials and upgrading my personal collection. My hope is also to provide you with an heirloom to cherish for years to come. BUYER RESPONSIBILITY Both parties need to be fully engaged in the buying process for a transaction to be a success. Buyers need to understand that the clocks I sell are between 80 and 140 years old. While the movements are fully serviced, all of my clocks show some scars from these decades of use. I try to describe these marks as best I can and mention them in my listing text. I count on the buyer to read the entire auction text and examine the high-resolution pictures closely to make sure the clock meets your needs and expectations. I am always willing to make good on any shipping damage through the insurance process but I am no longer willing to offer partial refunds simply because the buyer did not read the listing or examine the auction photos.
