Some wear on the metal mostly near the crown from use. No chips or cracks. All the mechanics are visible from the back. In very good working condition. Watched for 16 hours and kept good time. eBay FINE 1971 GILDED BRASS IMHOF (for Bucherer) SHELF / MANTEL CLOCKAn exquisite Swiss clock from my personal collection of noteworthy vintage and antique timepieces curated since the early 1970s.During the third quarter of the last century Imhof along with Swiss competitors Luxor, Looping and Angelus manufactured the most costly and best quality jeweled lever alarm, desk and shelf clocks. A half-century ago, this large elegant clock carried a retail price of $295. Applying the Consumer Price Index inflation calculator, this is the equivalent of $2,200 in 2023. The heavy (almost 3 pounds!) case with high polished and satin surfaces is precisely machined and cast of brass with a 24K gold electroplated finish. A deep convex crystal covers the matte gilded dial with crisp Roman numerals painted on domes. Hands are delicately cut and finished with black enamel. The week-running movement winds and sets from the rear.Overall condition ranks among the best maintained and original of Swiss gilded metal clocks I've encountered. Particularly remarkable, given the age and inherently fragile nature of the pure gold finish. The clock displays beautifully and holds accurate time. 7.75" high 5.3" wide and 2.3" deep at the beaded feetThe movement was disassembled (including removal of mainspring from barrel), ultrasonically cleaned and rinsed, elements checked for wear, reassembled and lubricated with high-grade Swiss grease and two viscosity oils. Typical labor and materials cost of professionally overhauling vintage Swiss 15-jewel clocks is $375. Please review descriptive information and study the photographs for details.
