eBay We have a RARE Antique Warren Telechron Company, Telechron Master Clock, Type B.This Clock is in great original condition with the original instruction manual. It measures 32 x 16 This clock is VERY heavy. Comes from an old estate untested. Please look at all the photos Below is some information found on Wikipedia Warren master clock, installed in utility power plants, made accurate synchronous clocks possible.Henry Warren established the company in 1912 in Ashland, Massachusetts. Initially, it was called "The Warren Clock Company," producing battery-powered clocks. These proved unreliable, however, since batteries weakened quickly, which resulted in inaccurate time-keeping. Warren saw electric motors as the solution to this problem. In 1915, he invented a self-starting synchronous motor consisting of a rotor and a coil, which was patented in 1918.[1] (Condition: Pre-Owned)

Mariners have used a unique bell code to tell time at sea for hundreds of years. The code is based on the crew's typical workday routine while the vessel is under way. A ship at sea requires constant attention. The day is thus divided into six four-hour periods, each called a "watch." Similarly, the crew is segmented into three divisions. Division members then stand their individually assigned duties on two watches per day, with eight hours off duty between watches. 1 First Watch 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. 2 Mid-Watch (also Black Watch) 12:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. 3 Morning Watch 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. 4 Forenoon Watch 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 5 Afternoon Watch 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 6 Evening Watch 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.The watch officer struck the ship's bell every half hour to apprise the crew of the time. A single bell denoted the end of the first half hour and one bell was added each half-hour. Eight bells therefore signaled the end of each four-hour watch. Like centuries of seafarers, you'll soon know the time when the clock chimes, even if you cannot see it.Starting in 1915, all U.S. Merchant vessels over 100 gross tons have, by law, divided the crew into three watches, working four hours on and eight hours off, and turning the dog watches into one evening watch. Precision Scale On3 Mich/Cal 16T Shay Locomotive

Precision Scale On3 Mich/Cal 16T Shay Locomotive

Brass O-Scale Michigan – California Lumber Company No. 2 Two-truck Shay Locomotive – This is a fine example of the model builder’s skills years ago when things were really carefully made and where attention to details counted. An example of legendary Japanese quality, this beautifully crafted scale model of one of the most interesting and famous of all Shay locomotives ever made – it is the oldest surviving Tee-boiler Shay now existing. From Micro Cast/Mizuno of Japan for the highly prized Precision Scale Company, serial number 01026. A beautifully crafted in great condition, scale model of possibly the last surviving Tee boiler Shay locomotive. Many of these geared locomotives were made by Lima Locomotive Works of Lima, Ohio, after obtaining the original design and permission from Ephraim Shay himself. Shay came up with this idea after noticing that the wooden track used in the forested areas of Michigan was not damaged by the rail cars carrying logs even though they were much heavier than the locomotives pulling the cars. He surmised that smaller wheels (36” diameter) was the difference and his design employed the same size wheel as the flat cars used. This geared design was also introduced in The Transportation Exhibits in the World Columbian Exposition of 1893.This model is based upon the first engineering redesign from the original patents and were first introduced in 1883-1884 – this older design lasted 23 years until dropped from Lima’s catalogue when the whole line of Shay’s was recast. The Tee-boiler was used on smaller engines ranging from 10 to 20 tons. This engine was originally sold to a Michigan company but was subsequently sold and shipped to California for use on the “Mich-Cal” logging operations active there Michigan California Lumber of Company of Camino, California, formed in 1918 from the failed El Dorado Lumber which morphed into the C. D. Danaher Lumber Company in 1911 and then Mich-Cal, used this locomotive on the Georgetown Divide operations and ended up as a switcher at their mill operations during the 1950’s. It is still there behind their offices today. This compact Shay was made in 1884, construction number 122, for three-foot gauge track and converted to oil from wood in about 1905. This number 2 was used for switching needs after the larger No. 7 Shay arrived in 1904. In logging practice, these locomotives were sometimes, depending upon grades, run uphill facing forward with empty flat cars behind and then, once loaded, was backed down the hill which guaranteed adequate water over the crown sheet. There were grades of 7% on this line. The three-foot gauge, two-truck, two-cylinder design provided a very compact power-plant with 26” drivers, 13,000 lbs. tractive power at 23 tons weight plus a smaller turning radius allowing for sharper curves in trackage and with reasonable fuel/water capacity for reasonable operating periods in the field. These small Shays were also used for switching and in industrial areas to move rail cars around – sometimes converted to standard gauge for industrial uses. This fine reproduction exhibits all of the careful detailing expected including accurate steel frame details with wooden bumpers, cylinder details including steam supply and exhaust distribution lines and fittings, connecting crank fittings, steam air compressor with related valves and lines, the cab with fully detailed boiler backhead controls, fuel oil bunker with fill lid and vent line in place with the water tank beneath is complete including sand box at the rear with fill caps in place – love the off-set headlight. The original paperwork from Iron Horse Models is included which contains much detailed information about this locomotive including drawings and a photo of the actual locomotive with original warranty information. Over the years the brass finish has developed a beautiful patina which enhances the fine details on this model.I am a collector - not a dealer - and this amazing model, which was purchased through a dealer from another owner, has been in our collection for over five years. It was brought home about 1 month ago and has not left its box except for photography purposes. It is now being offered for sale so that we might expand into other areas of brass locomotive collecting mainly different railway equipment from geared locomotives. Please review all details and photos carefully as no returns are possible - please ask any questions necessary to resolve any doubts or concerns that you may have regarding this opportunity to acquire a rare and beautiful Mich-Cal Shay No. 2. This fine model will be shipped in its original box with original packing materials, double boxed, at buyer's expense and we recommend shipping via USPS Priority Mail insured (Condition: Brand New)

Rare Micrometer Strasser & Rohde, Glashütte iS (Clock makers)

Sold on eBay July 30th, 2024

Rare Micrometer Strasser & Rohde, Glashütte iS (Clock makers)

Rare Micrometer Strasser & Rohde, Glashütte iS with box (bottom only)It functions but may need serviced if your actually going to use it.HistoryThe company was founded in 1875 by the watchmaker Ludwig Strasser and the mechanic Gustav Rohde . The firm was located in Glashütte , long a center of clockmakers, in the Prussian province of Saxony . The watchmaker Curt Dietzschold was co-owner for a short time. Although Strasser became increasingly involved with the Deutsche Uhrmacherschule Glashütte , he remained a partner until 1914. Rohde was now elderly and in 1918 the company was taken over by the industrialist Friedrich Kreis, who leased it to the watchmaker Paul Weiss for 24,000 Goldmark . [1] Kreis also owned factories in Berlin and Switzerland, so Strasser & Rohde had access to parts and semi-finished products from third parties. [2] Weiss bought the company after Kreis' death in 1925 and led the company until his death in 1943, after which his widow Margarethe briefly took charge. After the Second World War, management fell to Arno Wustlich, son-in-law of Paul and Margarethe, who had been working for the company for some time. He led the company until bankruptcy in 1958 ProductsInitially the company produced various precision equipment such as micrometers , calculators and the then recent invention of the taximeter . Later, Strasser & Rohde focused entirely on watches and related equipment. The company tried to achieve the highest possible accuracy by making improvements to various parts of the mechanism. All Strasser & Rohde clocks could be traced back to one basic type, called the Glashütter Präzisions Pendeluhr (GPPU) , in which the coupling between pendulum and movement was mounted in reverse order. Several watchmakers have contributed to this development. The " free spring escapement " invented and patented by Strasser had a perfecting role in this. With this construction the pendulum was disconnected from the work in progress, allowing it to move more precisely. The company first presented this invention at the Saxon Thuringian Industrial Exhibition of 1897 and was awarded a gold medal at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris . [3] Based on this invention, the company manufactured pendulum clocks of the highest possible accuracy, mainly for scientific purposes. In the Netherlands, four clocks were ordered from Strasser & Rohde for scientific purposes between 1904 and 1911. One of these was used for the National Commission for Grade Measurement and Water Passing , the other three probably by the Leiden Observatory. Museum Boerhaave in Leiden has an astronomical pendulum clock by Strasser & Rohde, which for a long time served as the master clock for all clocks in the Leiden Observatory . [4] One of the other three stood in the old Geodesy building of TU Delft on Kanaalweg, [5] until it was converted into a student house. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
