E Howard Wall Clock #94 In Oak
eBay This fine example was made circa 1880. The case measures approximately 32 inches long overall. The Model 70 was successfully sold. It was used extensively in the Boston Public School System, in the various Boroughs of Greater New York, and many other places as the Standard School Clock. The United States Government specified it as the "Standard for all Public Buildings." One would also see this model in many of the Nations railroad stations. Some of which included: The Elevated Railroad Stations of New York City, The Pennsylvania Railroad Company, The Central Railroad of New Jersey, West Shore Railroad of Boston & Albany, and nearly all Railroad Companies throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Edward Howard of Boston, Massachusetts The E. Howard & Company succeeded the Howard & Davis firm in 1857. The Howard & Davis firm was comprised of Edward Howard and David Porter Davis and was established in 1842 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Both men had just completed their clock apprenticeship under the guidance of Aaron Willard Jr in Boston. The Howard & Davis firm made high-grade clocks, precision balances, sewing machines, fire engines, and watches. After the dissolution of Howard & Davis, Edward Howard became Boston's leading manufacturer of weight-driven residential and commercial clocks. The firm also made a large number of tower clocks and watchman and salve clock systems. These sold well in the last quarter of the 1800s.It has been said that the E. Howard Clock company never made an inexpensive clock, and everything they made was of very good quality. As a result, Howard clocks have become very collectible and are prized by their owners. Today, the E. Howard name enjoys outstanding name recognition. For a more in-depth reading of Edward Howard and his various businesses, please read "Willard's Patent Time Pieces," written by Paul Foley. On Dec-02-23 at 08:24:36 PST, seller added the following information:ALL THE CLOCK DOES SEEM TO TICK AND TOCK CORRECTLY. In the 1780's Adolf Herr's ancestor, Johann Hiller, built clocks in the Black Forest. His son in law, Johann Baptist Rainer, born in 1763, continued the clock making tradition. His son in law, Christian Herr, born in 1814, was a clock maker too. From then on, the clock making art was handed down from father to son. Bernhard Herr, born 1842, Robert Herr, born 1876, and Rudolf Herr, born 1901, established a family tradition in making fine clocks. Adolf Herr, Rudolf's son, married Gerlinde Eble, whose great-grandfather and father had also been clockmakers. Adolf opened his own business in 1977 - the House of Black Forest Clocks. He and his son Juergen (7th generation) have been creating cuckoo clocks ever since, inventing new designs and, above all, new movements that have found a place in households in Germany and overseas. M. Welton 4 Post, 30 Hour Shelf Clock, T&S, Original Weights, Working
This is an antique M. Weldon shelf or mantle clock, currently running, with a good label. M. Welton 4 Post, 30 Hour Shelf Clock, T&S, Original Weights, Working M. Welton 4 Post, 30 Hour Shelf Clock, T&S, Original Weights, Working Click images to enlarge Description Heritage Matters WEIGHT DRIVEN SHELF or MANTLE CLOCK M. WELTON 30 HOUR T&S CIRCA 1840 - 1844 This is an antique weight driven, 30 hour, 4 post mantle or shelf clock. It has an excellent label of M. Welton, at 54 St. John Street. Merrit Welton's brothers, Hiram and Heman, took over Eli Terry Jr's shop in 1842, after he died. Some researchers believe Merrit bought his movements from them, while others believe he sourced movements mostly from Elisha Mantross, and occasionally from others. This movement is unsigned. It is uncertain exactly what dates Merrit was active in the clock business at the St. John Street address; he began about 1840, and was there at least through 1844, possibly a few years after. This is a nice example of his work. It stands about 26 inches tall, 15 inches wide, and 5 inches deep. The case has been refinished. The lower glass is obviously a modern replacement, as are the hands. The wood dial is period and fits well, but as there are small holes at the corners which do not meet the internal supports, may not be original to this clock. The "wafer" weights are original. It has been restrung within a few years, and the cords are good, so I did not restring it. The movement was clean, so all I did was to lubricate it. It is currently running and striking correctly. Though running, I sell all mechanical and electrical devices in AS-IS condition. You still have the right to return it if dissatisfied for a refund of your purchase price, not to include shipping. Should there be damage in shipping, it will need to be handled through an insurance claim. After that is settled, you can still return it for a refund of the purchase price, if notice has been given when any damage is discovered. The handling charge is for insurance, which is automatic. Should there be a problem with your purchase, please contact me directly through the eBay mail system. I can and will do the same things directly that I would through eBay, and probably more quickly. NO RESERVE! MY PLEDGE TO YOU: no surprises! I will provide high-resolution scans; I will fully describe each item, obverse and reverse, positives and negatives, possibilities, likelihoods, what I suspect, and which is which; and I will provide as much historical context as I can. Now, I believe that the only people who never make mistakes are those who never say or do anything, so consequently, there will be times I am wrong. There, you are covered by my guarantee. MY GUARANTEE TO YOU: I guarantee each item to be genuine as described. And the ONLY exception to my guarantee is that I am not responsible for mishandling by the mail system, and any damages incurred therein.
